Title: A slice of Russell Brand, anyone?
Post by: yourworstfuckingnightmare on August 01, 2010, 06:15:00 PM
Hey. So I'm new on the site! Been browsing around and everyone seems wonderful, and very intelligent.

I thought I would start a thread about Russell Brand! Not sure if this has been done already, but he's one of my favourite comedians, and before discovering him, comedy was never really something I paid attention to. However, I am aware that many, many (far too many, in my opinion) people find him ridiculous and annoying.

What's your opinion on Russell Brand? Talented? Witty? Or just plain fucking annoying? Reasons behind your thoughts?

Irritating.  His standup has never amused me.  Most of his comedic style is "run around and scream", combined with "be effeminate".  He bores me, personally.
I also am pissed at the world for putting him in the Dudley Moore role in a remake of Arthur.

I think he's quite funny. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like him, though. I also know a lot of people who inexplicably assume that he couldn't actually be funny because he is in the tabloids and things without ever actually hearing or seeing any of his actual work. That annoys me.

I wasn't gonna post.. buuuttt...

I hate the man! He grates my cheese. I hate the fact that I shared airspace with him once. He's admitted he cannot act, and doesn't. He says he only plays people that look & act like him. So, I really don't think he should be handed a lot of the roles he's been given. Once his name's in the cast you instantly know what it's going to be like. I don't know why Hollywood is falling over themselves to create roles for him. They're at the point now where they're just remaking films to plop him into coz it'll be less work that coming up with an 'original idea'.

Arthur? wtf?? who thought that'd be a good idea..
Drop Dead Fred... one of my all time favourites. I grew up on this film and I love it very dearly. I know his remake won't harm the film I love, but he's just not right for it. It shouldn't be remade anyhow, but him of all people. I already know what his portrayal will be like and it makes me sad. It's gonna tank, at least I hope it does!

And his comedy.. Yeah, I have a very varied taste when it comes to comedy, as well as everything else, but i just don't enjoy anything he does.

*exhale*
Think I'm done.
Back to my happy place.

I wouldn't take a slice of him, no matter how well done.

wouldn't mind taking a turn or two turning the spit, though.  :)

He is shit for many reasons.

You have to wait a long time before he actually says something vaguely funny.
bit like that annoying twat Michael McIntyre.
he's an obnoxious twat who revels in notoriety.
His delivery is based on being loud and overemphasising each fucking word...
people in the street say i have Russel Brand hair so I hate him even more for that.

You know who might be able to play Arthur?  Ricky Gervais....

Seriously, love him or hate him, he'd make a very believable irresponsible,
drunk, inheritance-rich overgrown-kid...

Haha. Yeah, I don't know, I personally love him, but I guess I can understand where a lot of you are coming from. You either love him or want to beat him over the head with something heavy. At first I thought his humour was just English humour, and so it was just a clash between cultures when he was first introduced to America and nobody really liked him, but I've discovered it's really not that at all.

I suppose I like him for quite a lot of the reasons everyone finds him irritating. I mean, his movies and his stand up are kind of mildly humorous to me, but his interviews are hilarious. Movies are scripted obviously, and stand ups are rehearsed and done over and over again, but in interviews when he's just being... well, Russell, I find he's very naturally funny. Plus, I love how he has a ridiculous hair-do, sense of fashion, is clearly quite loud and obnoxious, not the most talented actor, yet is very aware of it and is shamelessly all of the above. He makes horrible jokes about himself constantly, and in fact would probably concur with everything anti-Russell-Brand-ers have said, so far :p

Totally not arguing with anybody, by the way. I'm really not fussed about who hates him and who loves him.

I get that impression too! I am not sure if it's a good reason to like him more, but I do like him more for that.
