Seems kinda unnecessary tbh.  We've got the comics, why do we need a tv series?  Doesn't strike me as something that would really be well suited to that format; I can't see it really improving on the comics or adding much of note.

Of course, I'll still watch it if it does happen, and in that case I'd really hope Neil becomes involved as that'd greatly increase the chances of it not sucking.

I read about this before and I think it sounds like a bad idea. I just cannot see it translating well into a TV series at all. I can't see it working and if Neil isn't involved? They should probably just...like...not. That said, I can't see into the future and maybe it will be completely awesome and magically satisfy every fan ever.
I hope that if they do it isn't as awful as it sounds like it will be. I'd probably watch it at least a little.

I would imagine it will just end up being yet another substandard US style supernatural drama....perhaps not, maybe it could be better than that

This depends to an amazing degree on which corporate entity is behind it...

Unfortunately, the ones that make the effort to create something really good are
also the ones that tend to shy away from anything resembling fantasy/sci-fi....

Depending on how it's done, this could either be absolutely epic, or horribly disastrous.  Depending on the actors you get, and whether or not Gaiman is part of the writing department (or at least overseeing it), it could be amazing.  Personally, I watch very little television, and the only series I keep up with weekly is Bleach (because, fuck you, I love Bleach), but really.  Gaiman has to be involved for at least the first season.

There is NO in between where the Sandman series is involved.  It needs to either have a general plot point with graceful actors who are familiar with this sort of territory, or it need not be done.  And I'd hate to say it, but if it were animated, it'd probably die a quick death.  General adult audiences seem to equate animation with kids (which we all know is bullshit), and the budget would probably break if they didn't garner enough adult viewers.  It would be an adult show, obviously.  I could definitely see a live action version, but once again the actors would make it or break it, regardless of good story/dialogue.

But that's just my personal opinion.  *ahem*

This really depends on how it will be done, I agree.  I do also agree that this is quite unnecessary.  Movie, maybe.  Show, ehhh, we'll see...

If it does get made I hope it's better than 'Neverwhere'. Cuz that was rubbish.

Neverwhere was excellent in all but it's fatal suffering of BBCism where any show with a great script, good actors, decent sets and wonderful direction...ends up somehow looking like an amature dramatics production with cardboard sets

If they do make it a series, I really would like the BBC to do because that series is closer to home than it is for us.

I'm not entirely clear where you were going with that, but yeah...  good cast, fair directing, great screenplay
(of course) converted to a so-so script.... and sets/FX that the orig Star Trek woulda been too ashamed to
set their names by....  Seriously, it came off like someone's mum's video of the high-school play.

I'm hopeful and nervous about the prospect of Sandman being a TV series. It seems like the material would better suited for the longer format of TV than that of a movie.

I've honestly thought that it could be pretty cool if they did a direct to DVD animated movie. DC seems to be putting them out fairly regularly. Instead of trying to grasp the entire scope of The Sandman it could focus on self contained stories, either adapted from the comics or original, each with their own distinct animation style.
