Title: News of the Weird
Post by: Pope Totalfrog on August 30, 2011, 12:29:28 AM
How can we call ourselves a real forum if we don't have a topic for wacky/gross/odd news?

Post them here and we can all enjoy the wackiness/grossness/oddness together.  angel

The moral of this story is that you should always know what you are allergic to (and you probably shouldn't have sex with dogs either)

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/americas/09/01/canada.severed.foot/index.html
This has been explained, at least to an extent....

Say a person is fishing, boating, hiking, whatever....  and falls in the water and drowns....

The body floats, then sinks, then generally bloats, refloats, then sinks again.
Slowly it begins to decompose, and when it has sufficiently disintegrated, any buoyant accessories
(like, say, athletic shoes or sandals with foam-nased soles) float away, and they're carried (foot and
all) by the ocean current until they wash up somewhere.

I'm an inch shorter than the height he was listed at in another article (6 feet), and I used to weigh a few pounds more than he claims he does. I never had a problem fitting into the booths there the 2 times I actually ate there instead of getting carryout.

the piece made me wonder if he was still living at home,
which could indicate the disease is non-trivial

the piece indicated it might be self defense

I haven't read the details carefully. It may be a self defense, a silly ticket can not be the only reason.
I, myself got diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, but i've always thought my psychologist was wrong.
It has very specific characteristics and when the patient isn't supported with drugs w/or therapy it may become a psychotic manic-depression. If so, yeah this guy shouldn't have been living with his parents, instead he should have been getting professional help.

Btw the way the written media narrates such cases makes me sick.

Since my year 4 teacher committed suicide after 'voices' in her head had told her to do it, I no longer believe I wouldn't be able to do something like that if I was ill enough.
i mean, how does it ''work''? the voices thing i mean... what kind of mental illness is it?

Most people who suffer from psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, paranoia, multiple personality disorder, mania, etc. also suffers from hearing nonexistent voices, seeing hallucinations.

Sounds scary, but yeah, what Marmoset said. It must be possible in a very high level of a mental sickness.

There's no website that published this news in English. I guess it hasn't taken the attention of the media abroad, yet i'll try to translate it as much as can, because it's cryably funny;

Quote
Spy Pelican Alert in Konya!

A group of businessmen have found a wounded pelican on their path while they were hiking in the forest. Seeing a recorder&transmitter attached to its foot with an identification tag written in Hebrew, they thought it might be a spy sent by Israeli goverment and they delivered the pelican to the policemen.

A group of businessmen who live in Eregli / Konya and are interested in mountaineering, have found a wounded pelican in the 2500 m height while they were hiking in the Berendi Platheu near the town. Seeing a recorder and a transmitter enchained to its foot with an identification tag written in Hebrew, they thought it might be a spy sent by Israeli goverment and they delivered the pelican to the policemen without hesitation.

Pelican finder, civil engineer Ahmet Yanaroglu has made a statement to the press, saying "We have found the wounded pelican in the 2500 m height of the Berendi Platheu. When we got closer to the pelican who is wounded on his chest and wings, we saw a solar energy powered transmitter&reciver and a rollerskate with a tag written in Hebrew, attached to its foot. We brought it to Eregli so that it could be cured and investigated by the officers. As far as we could understood by seeing a transmitter, we thought they have attached them to its foot in order to track it, but we couldn't understand the reason why Israeli officers attached the rollerskate."

Haha  ;D I guess zoologists just attached these devices to its foot in order to track the pelican's migration course.

Title: Re: News of the Weird
Post by: lentower on October 10, 2011, 11:09:01 PM
^ possible the roller skate got tangled in the tracking transmitter after the bird was tagged

possible the bird was tagged outside israel

possible the skate with hebrew label was acquired by the pelican outside israel

pelicans are scavengers and do frequent trash/garbage dumps

sigh, paranoia
Title: Re: News of the Weird
Post by: Savannah on October 11, 2011, 02:15:27 AM
Today policemen made a statement. Apparently it was the part of a search in the Tel Aviv University.
Roller skate is still weird, yet as you said it might have been acquired by the pelican on its way flying to here.

And what kind of a top secret information could Israeli goverment could get from the transmitter attached to the pelican  ;D The reason i laughed this hard to this news is that they were so suspicious about it in case it might be a spy. Yeah paranoia. After the humanitarian aid flotilla has been raked by the Israeli cost guards.
Title: Re: News of the Weird
Post by: lentower on October 11, 2011, 05:09:13 AM
the people who found he pelicans may not understand the world
and technology as well as you do,
or even know that Great Britian and Israel have drones
like the US Predator drones

the humanitarian aid flotilla and it's organizers were foolish,
you don't fool with Israel about security.
they are very clear that force will be used to protect it

granted the rocket attacks etc. Israel has suffered,
Israel will never believe words about anything being peaceful and humanitarian
when it comes to moving supplies into Palestinian and Arab territory.
it will take a generation or two of peace for them to even begin to have some trust

both Israel and Palestine have made lot's of errors in their war since Israel was founded
but each has to get more honest and realistic with their demands
and their populations and voters about what is possible

the wider Muslim world has been even more irresponsible.
Palestine could have a great economy with every
Palestinian adult in or out of Palestine having
a doctorate or professional degree,
for what has been spent
on weapons by the wider Muslim world

Turkey use to have good enough relationships with
Israel, foolish to give that up

what a waste
Title: Re: News of the Weird
Post by: Savannah on October 11, 2011, 05:55:28 AM
Dear Len, thanks for summarizing my thoughts. I'm not criticizing Israel, though i know they over reacted. Let me clarify what i think about this problem;

Our president made a statement about his aim of sending humanitarian aids to Palestine by a state-owned flotilla. He would also send nurses, doctors , some low level politicians etc. Israeli goverment and foreign affairs ministry warned him they might either start an armed fight or arrest the people in the flotilla. So mr president gave up sending an official ship, and instead he supported some charity associations - which are also quite conservative and religious. Some people gave interviews to the newspapers saying "we won't leave our palestinian brothers alone, we are going there in order to be a martyr".

I have gone to an island trip with that ship. It's nothing like an ammunition vessel, it's just a simple passenger ship. And no real ammunition has been found into it when Israeli army investigated it. Just toys, medicine, tents, etc.

But assuming they had warned Turkish goverment, and passengers had made stupid statements, they over-reacted.
They might have held those people captive, or they might have arrested them as well instead of raking the people.

The crime is mutual. And i will never forgive mr president for supporting such an illegal activity.

As for the Palestinian people, as a person who lives in the center of the middle east and europe, i can say honestly that 1 out of 3 Palestinian people works with Mossad&Israeli ministry of security selling out the informations about their government policies. They have sold pieces of their territory. And they also have illegal terrorist groups hiding inside the residential areas, and they also send suicide bombs to Israel. So they keep terrorizing and Israel keep reacting.

As a country which used to have good interactions with both of them, i think Turkish government should take a role as an interceder instead of supporting one of the sides in an illegal way.

This "but they are muslim so they are our brothers" watchword makes me sick. Palestine has always supported the illegal terroristic groups which threatens the unity of the Turkish Republic. They also back-stabbed us back in war of independence. They still gum up the works by sealing alliances with Southern Cyprus.

On the other hand, we have experienced both useful and harmful affairs with Israel. They might be over-reacting due to a passive agression caused by their common history full of holocausts, banishments, statelessness, etc. But they are honest enough to warn you before they intervene in.

And if Palestini people might be our brothers, Israeli people might as well be our brothers. There are still many Turkish people working and living in the Israel. Building good relationships with Israeli government and people has taken years, but screwing the whole things up just took a day thanks to religious discrimination and prying into the affairs of the two governments.

i understand what (and why) you are saying, as i remind you i am not an idiot.  i am familiar with this theory.  mitochondriae matching or no, a chihuahua is not the same thing as a rottweiler.  true they can be brothers, but the chance then of their dna mixing into a combination of the two species is far more likely.

what you're seeing is a genetic code that ensures we all have ten fingers and toes, more or less.  of course we have the same commonality/code that shapes us.  for all you know, however, i'm only human in the honorary sense.

trust me.  if we were all that closely related, we'd be birthing flipper babies left and right.  which is possibly what happened to atlantis.

my worldview is an inextricable tangle of mythology and science.  sadly, it does not contain a lot of maths.

isn't atlantis where the dolphins come from?

there's no date on it but the publish date.  for some reason this seems awfully familiar to me, startlingly so when i got to the part about the teddy bear suit.  but from awhile ago, can it possibly have happened again or are they reporting on something old?

in russia i could believe this could happen twice.

yeah... after reading the article I couldn't help but feel like the chick wanted the marriage but is now like embarrassed of it or something or is just unbelievably dumb.

The "dr" told the victim (who identifies as lesbian but abstains from gay relationships because she feels it is immoral) that the woman had pre-cancer cells & that they wanted to pursue hormone treatments. The "dr" basically said that the hormones she needed were produced by sex so they should have lots of sex. The victim went to surgery with the woman & asked the surgeon about the cancer cells. The surgeon said he didn't know anything about cancer cells that he had performed a breast augmentation. The victim then asked the online "dr" about this & the "dr" told her that the surgeon was performing the operation "under the table" & there were cameras in the waiting room so he had to feigned ignorance. The woman then told the victim that they needed to marry as it would help in a custody case stemming from a previous relationship. So they traveled out of state & got married. The victim's daughter told her this all sounded weird and she thought that her now wife was the "dr" as well. So the lady does research finds out her daughter is right. Her wife never had cancer, & although she does have kids there was no custody battle.

I really hope he's paying his daughter, and that this only started recently (20 is rather young). And that she wants to pursue a career in modeling. And that she gets some modeling lessons, since a lot of the poses were rather awkward. I don't think she really knew what she was doing.

And I wish I'd thought of this when we were trying to sell my sister's car, since my sister has a killer body (like far more built than this girl), and quite a lovely face, and cleans up very nicely when she doesn't look like a hippie.

My feeling is no, it isn't. Pure aluminum, while rare is found in nature. Additionally hexagons are found again and again in nature, so a 6 "toothed" wheel may just be a hexagonal mineral form.

Not sure about the blog, but most "callers" to oh-my-god-how-funny morning-radio programmes
are pre-recorded bits with actors.  It's easier to prevent actionable accidents that way.  (In a
notable exception that illustrates the point, consider that Aussie outfit that drove a nurse in
the UK to kill herself back in December...  Gee we never expected THAT  :-\....)

The point being that you should never include people in your public entertainment unless

At first I thought people would msg them as a complete stranger, trying to sell their kids some drugs. That would be funnier, imo. Anyway, some of them sounded fake. Specially because there are sites that allow you to build iphone chats.

but I liked how some parents were like "hey, you! im not dumb for fucking sake!".

As I understand it (which is not very well), a .22 caliber rifle is the sort of gun you learn how to shoot on. Did he really have to start learning when he was 11? More to the point, couldn't they have stored it somewhere he couldn't access it except for when they were teaching him?

.22 is really effective on a short range if you know how to fire a gun. And is kinda difficult to keep something inaccessible from a 14 year old.

The issue is that parents aren't establishing a parent relationship early on. Everybody tries to be thier kids' best friend, or buddy. To this I say, fuck that. The parent/child relationship is supposed to be one of Benevolent Tyrant/Serf. If the child does what he is supposed to do, then there is no problem, but the moment something gets slightly out of kilter, the Parent is supposed to come down on the Child like a ton of bricks. This allows children to learn about the cause/effect and choices/consequences relationship early on.

The parent/child relationship is supposed to be one of Benevolent Tyrant/Serf. If the child does what he is supposed to do, then there is no problem, but the moment something gets slightly out of kilter, the Parent is supposed to come down on the Child like a ton of bricks. This allows children to learn about the cause/effect and choices/consequences relationship early on.

this is absolutely true.  because if it don't hurt, you won't learn nothin.

N.U - I don't know if that was the issue here since I don't know what their family was like, but I agree in general.
