Hi guys, i live in the very central region of Turkey. Yet the earthquake has happened in the Eastern Anatolian region which is quite far away from where i live in. Though i felt a very little shake, no building around here has collapsed. Yet  of course i'm so sorry for the people who experienced it, apparently it was a very big one (6.6 or 7.2 with Richter scale) i keep watching the news and each death news breaks my heart.

Thanks for sympathy, i really do understand this forum is quite like a big family.

Thanks again Len, everyone i know is also OK.

As far as i can see the case is very bad. It's been a very big earthquake and many buildings there have collapsed. Now they say around 1000 people have died, i guess the loss of lives may rise up to 3000-5000 people  :-\

I guess it's because there are some external manipulations in such cases.
I remember Saddam offered Opec countries to demand gold againist oil, just like what Gaddafi did. And though Gaddafi has been cruel to the opponent groups, he also used to be very though in foreign relations and he managed to govern his economy with zero external debts. Being so stubborn about his demands in export-import and foreign policies, he needed to get knocked down.

Sharia causes lots and lots of internal problems, look at Iran, they hardly can find time to carry on healthy external relation policies. Democracy is harder to manipulate, therefore i guess some oil importing countries exhorted Jelil to declare Sharia instead of democracy.

Don't get me wrong, i don't and will never like Gaddafi. But i think it's mostly about give & take.

I think it might be crazy hard. It's been very hard to change their currencies for most of these countries. I have a friend working in Germany, and i remember her saying "Things changed a lot. Everything has become much more expensive then it used to be. For example, price for one tomato used to be one Mark, but now it's one Euro. But it's not the same for the salaries. Because Euro is more valuable than Mark, no employer is able to pay the same amount of money in Euro currency."

And all of these countries have different cultures, sources, working habits. Standardisation would be pain in the ass.
I mean, you can't make a Greek person work 10 hours per day. And industrial production can never be as successful as for example it is in Germany. Because industrial and mass production is something new for them. They are more accustomed to tourism and import & export. This is why incentive credits haven't work.
It became harder to finance them inside the union. And if union keeps supporting such countries with credits and grants, it will ruin the economic situations of the other member countries whose economy is bigger.

In Finland we don't have equivalents of "he" and "she". We just have "hän" which is any human being (as opposed to "se" for things or animals... though a loved family pet might still be called "hän").

I'm not really concerned either way honestly...I guess you can take that anyway you want. I'm just worried that friends are going to work themselves up into a lather over this.  I can't declare any of what is being said about this man is truth or fiction, I can't call him murder or hero either.  I just want it sorted out without all the death, road closures and fear.
Title: Re: News on 11

So yesterday, in a nail biting stand off, Chris Dorner is believed to have killed himself.  He was discovered in a cabin by two maids, who were then tied up and car jacked.  One escaped and altered police which lead to another chase up in Big Bear (snowy part of California) where two officers were shot, one was killed.  Dorner is then believed to have gone into a cabin (I am unsure if it was the same one he was first discovered in) where he barricaded himself.  It was then reported that one gunshot was heard after tear gas was shot into the building, which proceeded to catch fire and burn into a charred black soot pile with only the chimney standing.  So it is assumed that this man is dead, they have to do DNA testing on the remains to be sure.

Today is the funeral for the first police officer that was killed, his name was Michael Crain.

I feel that either way all of this ended unfairly, maybe I'm naive to for thinking our system works, but I wish they would of tried to keep Dorner alive so he could have a trial. (or at least not burned to a crisp to really identify his remains.)

Why on earth should a parent be at all angry about a child getting sex ed? As long as the teacher isn't going into vast personal detail and is sticking to facts I don't see a problem. And at least it saves them having to do it.

I didn't mean that they should be upset. I meant that it would be more strange for an anatomy teacher to talk to your kid about an orgasm (which is clearly sexual) than it would for them to say the word vagina (which isn't necessarily sexual). Anatomy isn't sex ed. They have different classes for that typically... or the used to anyway.

Policemen are now covering the id numbers written on their helmets and collars in order to attack the protesters violently without getting recognised.

This girl was not even a protester, but she was really unfortunate to be there and got beaten harshly with iron bars, you can see the bruises and broken arm & leg:

Things are getting PRETTY nasty right now in Rio. São Paulo was crazy too. Brazilia had a lot of troubles too today. In Rio things are close to a civil war in some aspects. A friend of mine, who was in Monday's riot is being wanted by the police - supposelly because he tried to beat to the death a policeman. A video shows something completely different:

Video one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4ccslSNV0s  --- he is the beard man, in white plain t-shirt, holding like three or four guys...

There is another video, but you cant understand what he is saying. More or less at 0:45. His white t-shirt is on his shoulders.

http://edition.cnn.com/  --- the protests were on cover of CNN.

Just one pov from someone not connected with the media, but reading and listening from every side:

- the flag against "corruption" is the weakest and most vague flag you can raise. Many people from part of out society are getting into this bang wagon of "against all and everything that is wrong". However, most of them have a right wing conservative attitude, going against the real cause that spawned the riots: the cost and ineffectiveness of public transport in Brasil.

Many people are there only for the sake of saying they were there. Like a post I saw in facebook today: It is not because of the 20 cents, it for the Instagram post. Others are clearly there as if it was a street party, are there to have fun.

A guy from the group (can't call them party, because it will sound like if they are a political party) MPL, Movimento Passe Livre (smth like: No Fee Movement)  who started the demonstrations against the fee raise posted a text in his FB page, saying how sad he is on the turn the demonstrations took. From something coherent and if a cause, now you have people shouting almost everything and anything, making the speech weaker every demonstration after every demonstration. Not only that, but the fact that people INSIDE the protests were calling he and his group (which were the minority)  communists - because they were gathered together with some people from extreme left wing parties.

I'm too tired to reproduce every word that he said, but you could clearly see some traces of repression and facism from those guys.

In the mean time, while people are happy and feeling like a real citizen because they are protesting against everything, you see extreme right wing people and some right wing parties taking part in a speech of "PT (Dilma's and Lula party) is the cause of all this corruption", like if these other parties never had any scandal. For instance, the future candidate for  the president election next year from PSDB, and governor of  my state, Aécio Neves, is going on trial for a billion dollar *insert word i dont know*  of public budget.  Also, you see people asking to extinguish all parties - yes, like they did back in the 60s, with the  Fifth Institutional Act.

Add to that all these rioters destroying everything that they think it should be, beating up policemen, burgling. Add the excessive violence of an badly trained and underpaid police force. And you have a situation that is going totally out of control.

And people think they are top of the notch going to the streets, when they can't see they are being manipulated somehow.

I don't agree with MPL main cause, which is a free public transportation system because that is almost impossible of implementing. But I agree that you need one, and only one cause for a demonstration.

Brazilian people are easily lead by this "against corruption" speech, which is just bollocks at the end. How can people ask to end corruption if each and everyday most Brazilians tries to take some advantage over others? Hoping queues, not given back extra change, taking away things found on public places (we have this saying: found is not stolen...) - specially money and mobiles, but actually anything that they can carry at the moment. A people that try to cheat on each and every possibility. A people who think it is strange when someone does not take an advantage over something or someone. That is why corruption is such a weak flag....

I'm scared on how this can end.

There are so many things wrong on with these protests, that I get lost with my thoughts and can't even finish this bloody post in someway that it makes any sense...

PS.: my friend posted a video on YT telling his okay and commenting the stupid poster that people did, telling he (and others) were going to be hunted down by Rio's police force.  I wish you guys were fluent in portuguese, because Im too lazy and very tired right now to subtitle that.

They can't even use it for bathing, so you know the stench has to be getting massive. Of course, the corporate lowlifes responsible will get away with it.

Today, an airplane with Brazilian presidential candidate Eduardo Campos crashed in Santos, killing him and 6 other people. Conspiracy theorists are already talking about sabotage and such.

What happens next? Does his party nominate someone else to take his spot on the ticket?

We've never had a presidential candidate die before the election (I think), but it has happened with at least one candidate for the US Senate - some dude from Missouri back in 2000. He ended up winning, and his wife served in his place.

The party commitee has 10 days to nominate a substitute. Usually, the  former vice candidate will be nominated.

They vice candidate, Marina   Silva, would be on board but she decided to board on another plane with some campaign members (I forgot the English word for their position).

The saddest thing was people joking less than a hour after the crash. And in a heart beat my whatsapp was updated with shots from the corpses - the splattered corpses, that is. People also said Dilma or Aecio should be there. And they meant it.

Some argued that there is no boundaries for humour, but this have been used as an excuse to be arsehole. This also confirms my theory that this idea illustrate a saying we have: pepper on someone's else arsehole is a bliss.

I was not going to vote for him, and his party is not the most reliable or non corrupt, but that does not mean I think it is appropriate to joke.
