Title: graduation gift for my boyfriend. ideas?
Post by: Emaline on May 02, 2008, 12:40:42 AM
Hi all,

My boyfriend is graduating from our college in a couple of weeks, and I was trying to think of something to buy/make/do for him. I'm at a loss for ideas, except one-

I thought it might be cool to buy a wooden picture frame, sand it, paint it, and cover it from little things from our relationship (movie/concert stubs, etc.) and then put a nice picture of us in it, but I think that might be too girly of a gift.

Any other suggestions?

Actually, I think that's a great gift idea, but I'm not a typical guy.

The first 3 things that came to mind were just...total degeneracy. Sorry. :-\

I'll post something more wholesome if any such thing comes to mind.

The big question is, what kind of person is he like, and what are his likes. Because you're the range from Shawn who likes that idea, to me where I would just probably boxed it away.

Personally, I like a parts for my motorcycle, or a new lens  :icon_rr:

Something frilly from Victorias Secret to throw on the floor?

Oh wait, HH beat me to that.... :embarassed:

Um, hell....
Something related to his degree?
A snappy frame for his diploma? *
If you really wanted to go overboard, how 'bout a tank of gas for his car?

*warning, this can cost almost as much as the gas.

as everyone is graduating now, hell my girlfriend is probably watching right now to get her masters. I can tell you, not a single person I know cares about framing diploma. And every single person's parents are going to be doing for them anyways

Speaking of graduation  gifts. I just got hers:

I think his mom is getting him a diploma frame, so maybe me making him a frame isn't that great of an idea...  I'm just looking for something original and not very pricey...

While I must refrain for the same reasons Hurricane Hugo has, I must take this opportunity to emphasize the power of the sorts of gifts that are going unuttered.

He's a psych and English double-major. He doesn't really want to do anything with pysch; he kinda fell into the major and stuck with it to graduate on time.

Going for something that one wants to do is more important than finishing "on time", which is really a subjective thing anyway.

Dangah dear, you haven't graduated yet...
I'm sure when you do, your parents will spring for a frame....  won't they?

For Jenny or Alex, yes. For me? They'd say "good job now get out." (Seriously. My mother used to buy me cheap on-sale stuff every now and again when I was younger, and now that Jenny is the same age, her WALK-IN-CLOSET is stuffed full of brandname clothing. Many many many more examples... BF apologizes to me all the time for it, even though his family was worse... I "don't deserve to have to put up with their bs," as it were.)

Well one of those figures with a little boy getting his diploma? ... maybe you can even personalize it.

Obviously, but that's not really the point of this thread.

Mix cd with really, really sappy music...
Or paint a portrait of you and him together...
Or spend an entire day cuuuuddling...

(I spent all day reading romance manga... can you tell?)

Why spend money on a present when all he really wants is free?  angel

Discretely find out what his favorite book is and then get a first edition of it, ideally a signed one.  This can be as cheap as $2 (which is what I paid each for a first edition hard back and advance press copy of the End of Alice), or ridiculously expensive, depending on how old and how sought after the book is.  If it ends up being affordable, it'll have the sentimental value one gets from a well thought out gift, while being one of the things that should make any red blooded English major come.  Don't bother, though, if it came out earlier than about fifty years ago or had a massive first printing.

As one who loves books, I think thats an amazing idea. If a girl bought me a first edition, or even a leatherbound, of one of my favorites, I'd turn into a puddle on the floor.

Other than that, it's difficult to give suggestions without knowing his likes or dislikes.

The picture frames a good one...

What about a vibrator?

I'm not joking. Get your bf a shakin' dildo for his graduation. Put a hat on it and call it "Eduardo".

Oooh! Ooh! Agent Buckwald, have you ever seen the Great American Challenge? No joke, it's a giant dildo... Probably about two feet tall and about as wide as a honeydew melon. It's insane.  ;D It could probably fit a normal sized hat... Or, if you wanted to be particularly crass, a baby hat would definitely fit.

That's the first time I've seen the role of anal sex in a couple's love life described as happening in abundance.
