Title: the Upcoming Movies & Music thread
Post by: imaginary friend on July 03, 2008, 02:49:19 PM
I just saw the trailer for the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and I can't wait to see the whole thing. Sure. I'll probably be disappointed, but... ;D

Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Life of Pi" is the movie I'm most excited to see, but it looks like I've got about a year to wait. :'(

Albums? The new U2, of course. The 1st single should be out in 2 months. :) :) :) :glasses9: :) :) :)
Amon Amarth and Mastodon, too. :headbang: :headbang:

Albums, This new LP special edition record Jason Webley is going to realease next year in which he works with "Ximena Sariñana" and other hits such as Sxip Shirey.

I heard to some of the songs with Ximena Sariñana and they are actually good.

The full album by Evelyn Evelyn last time Jason Webley was in México he showed me some of the songs for the twins and FUCKING MINDBLOWING SONGS.

Movies... i am not into movies, well i wish they would air on tv Iron Man, i don´t like to go to the Cinema i rather watch them when they are on Movie City and HBO.

i also can't wait for the clone wars.

I hope they expand on Grievous' origin story. But knowing Lucasfilm, I'll probably get something that doesn't live up to my expections of Grievous having two lesbian moms and being raised on a giant aphid honeydew farm  :uglystupid2:

At least, the film will have the best portrayal of Ventress yet XD

Around 23 minutes of now-being-cleaned footage from [Metropolis has been found and Kino is going to re-release the film on DVD and Blue Ray in 2009 with the newly discovered stock added in.

from one of my new fave websites (www.io9.com, btw):

There's a computer-animated version of Phillip K. Dick's King of Elves in production...by DISNEY?

Yep. They say it'll be their 50th computer-animated movie; they have 4 years to blow it. It's on the release calendar for 2012.

No no no no no no no!!!!!  I haven't liked Depp since he screwed up Sweeney Todd.  *annoyed*  Why the fuck does Johnny Depp now have to dominate roles in all of the awesome movies.  He used to actually be a good actor, but lately...he needs a COMBO BREAKER.  I swear to god, dude.

I'm SOOOO excited for this! Also excited for Kick-Ass and The Last Airbender. I'm a little bit scared about the latter. I love the sourse material, but I have no faith  whatsoever in M. Night Shyamalan (sp?). It looks pretty decent from the trailer though and (lets not get in a race argument but) they couldn't have picked a better kid to play Aang. But (now's time for a race argument) what the hell is Dav Patel doing playing Zuko!?

It's all Tarantino's fault.  They let him make Inglorious Basterds, so now it's
open season on absurd Nazi-farce movies.  And those Twilight people didn't
help when they demonstrated that some people will pay to see anything that
claims to have "vampires" in it....

On the one hand, that looks interesting.....

On the other:
Independence Day
War Of The Worlds (any of them, but the book was still better)
Terminator (the last one especially)
Predator (again, pick one)
Aliens
the upcoming Skyline
or even Transformers and the EPIC Mars Attacks  :D

If I were the wagering sort, I'd bet there's nothing here that isn't obviously cut-and-pasted
from earlier films, and if that's the case, it comes down to execution: how does it look?  Is the
acting at all engaging?  Does the CGI look cheeeeeezy?

It seems from the trailer that the visuals are good, but I'm not holding my breath.

Now think about Black Hawk Down, and how easily it could have turned into just another
soldiers-trapped-behind-enemy-lines war movie...   It was good because it had a good
cast and great directing.

She's too curvy...  Don't get me wrong, I think she's gorgeous, but WW has a tiny waist.
Even allowing for (what I think is) a rationalizing of conventional views of feminine beauty,
WW is still going to have to be slimmer in the middle than Christina H.

I am so excited for Harry Potter. I don't even know if I'll have enough money to see it in the cinema, but a girl can dream. I might try to wait and see it in Wales if I go down and if I don't, then I will see it here.
Also, I managed to persuade a friend to organise a series of Harry Potter movie nights in the Union, wherein we watch the other 7 sometime before the last one comes out :D

I didn't read the books (not into fantasy fiction) but did see movies 1 and 3, I think.  The only one I saw die was a schoolmate who died during that one underwater game with the ball, or something like that.  Now, if any or all of THE BIG THREE were to be killed, then we'd have an issue with Ms. Rowling.  Otherwise, it's just life as usual (leaving aside, of course, all the magic and wizards,, etc.).

i wished this as i read them - that i was Harry's age.
but there were good books to read when i was Harry's and your age.
my nephew is a year younger,
and thinks it's cool that Harry is 'his' age

i always read the book before seeing the movie.
{unless the book is written after i see the movie ; - }
another reason is i get to visualize everything in my head,
and then the movie gives me a second set of images.
doesn't work the other way around for me

c'mon, the epilogue to Deathly Hallows,
set us up for the the next generation
to have their own adventures.

i don't know if J.K.Rowling has enough legal control
to prevent this.
or if she would want to

ok, you feel that way.

but it's part of the brillance of the series.
it gave JKR the chance to bring in new
characters every book, which gave her alot
more room to creat.

having the Dark Arts teacher change every year/book
did this to a lesser extent

Despite the amazing cast, I was about to chalk this up as just another Hollywood "could have been good except Hollywood fucked it up yet again" until I saw it was directed by Stephen Soderbergh, so there's a better than even chance it will be a good movie, perhaps even incredibly good.

I don't put any judgement on this before I've actually seen her in it.

There was similar comments about Heath Ledger when he was announced to play Joker. The truth is, though, that even though Anne Hathaway is mostly known for the fluffy romantic parts, she has played grittier/more serious roles as well (also been in the same film as Heath, no less!) and I do believe she has the potential to pull it off as well as Heath did Joker.

FINALLY!

After two movies with fucking male villans we're finally getting a female! Too bad it's not Harley Quinn but oh well. I guess I'll just have to write that script myself. I hope this one is better than the second one. Yeah, I know I have an unpopular opinion but I did not enjoy the Dark Knight. It was way too dark, there was to much violence and it just seemed to bring down everything. I hope they don't mess up the third one.

Pray forgive me for not being properly versed in the current state of Villainy in Gotham,
but isn't Ms. Q. basically a high-level henchman hench-person for The Joker, more than
a villain in her own right?

i knew heath was gonna be amazing as soon as they announced it! i luuuurve him  :love5:

but anne hathaway i dont like in general, plus even in the "grittier" movies she's done...it just doesnt work for me, she's just not right for it, her attitude/acting/or look...

now i coulda seen someone like milla jovovich! she's bad ass AND does most of her own stunts, and WAY hotter!

but personally if i was the casting person i would've gotten someone unknown, especially because catwoman is such an iconic roll...

and after Michelle Pfeiffer, no one's gonna be able to pull that roll off well

^I don't think it is really a perverted topic.
It may a bit uncomfortable for some people, but in these days, it's entirely normal to see/hear it in media.
Having said that, I do agree with you in that it seems more geared towards the historical aspect of it, and the sexual aspect is always there in the background, but not too far forward that that is all the movie is about.

There's a difference between knowing what you like and making films of a similar type and with similar motifs, and making the same film over and over again, though. I've given up watching new Tim Burton films, I feel like I've seen them already. By all means stick with the colour schemes and chiaroscuro lighting, they're definitely his style, but if he manages to make something without Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter that doesn't cater specifically to the TNBC merchandise buying crowd, then I might be interested. He's a talented production designer, and it's sad that he's wasting his talent by not using it for anything new or exciting.

Yeah, story was an interesting one, fiction was nice.
But i guess she hadn't planned how to end it from the beginning. Third was obviously written hastily and carelessly.

I've always been under the impression that the more focus is being put on making a movie 'visually amazing', the less focus there is on storyline (even though that tends to be finished before visual aspects are focused on.) And most of the things they're talking about are kind of action movies and as a personal opinion...action movies suck.

And as for 'Freaky Friday The Change-Up', I still can't believe the idea was even entertained let alone made.

This looks set to be a good music year. I love how every second year sees 5 or 6 artists I enjoy releasing albums.

So we've got Regina and Amanda both releasing new records along with Tegan and Sara and Amy Ray (tomorrow).
Irish band Heathers have a new album coming out soon and I believe Alanis Morissette just might be back in studio.

I've also heard rumours of another Gaga album in the works and Ke$ha is working on another.
Isn't Adele starting to work on the next album? But it's going to take a while because she wants to everything herself.

Disney buys LucasFilm for $4.5 billion; Star Wars episodes VII, VIII and IX on the way:   http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=771595
I'm convinced this could be a good thing... as long as they keep Lucas out of it :p

from bbc news:
"Mr Lucas will continue as a creative consultant."

sorry :(
As some of you have probably seen me comment on various Faceborg posts:

Disney has QUALIFIED EXPERTS on staff... people whose specialty is idiotic, irritating, animated disasters
(ring any bells?)...  These people know how to make a lame character bearable, reduce an over-used
character's on-screen time, and convince the "film maker" to eliminate a character that can't be fixed.

Disney could have prevented Jar Jar Binks....

If I'm honest I'm pretty sure they'll do a good job of it. They seem to be kicking all kinds of ass as owners of Marvel.

Who has seen the film version of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and would you recommend it?

Yes, definitely.
Considering how the book is written, I thought they did a really good job or making it into a film
There are a few scenes that were cut that I would have like to see, but they managed to get all the important stuff in without making it feel like they crammed everything in.

Just watched it. Enjoyed it. I guess when the author is so heavily involved with the film it can actually work out. It made me want to read the book again.
Also, when did Emma Watson become a good actor? O.o

Yeah, it helps when that author's that involved.
She was pretty fantastic in this, better than I thought,
and I didn't hate Ezra Miller as much as I thought I would from the trailer.

And the best thing is is that this can't suck because it's Jim Jarmusch.  Getting Tilda for the Catherine Denueve role (or so it appears) is just plain awesome.

^Personally, I thought the only saving graces of The Hunger were David Bowie, those little blade Ankh's that have since been made into actual things you can buy, and Bauhaus. I wonder what will come of this film, though. Everyone seems confident that Jarmusch can revive the vampire genre and I want to know why.

I agree with Astica. I didn't like The Hunger at all. The first scene with Bauhaus was amazing and I was really looking forward for what was next but it got really bad then. And Bowie's part was too small to save the movie. I hope this upcoming movie will be better, the casting looks great.

Last time I went to the cinema, more or less a month ago, I watched Robocop: mixed feelings. I don't compare it with the original one, but I think I prefer the killing machine (not the seize machine). Also, ED 209 was a big miss on this new one.

However, I like what Padilla made, His a good filmmaker.  :)
