Hi,
I started with Neverwhere and I think it was a great book to start with. I had no idea who Neil Gaiman was or what kind of books he writes so I did not know what to expect and the book amazed me.

I started with American Gods and I was hooked instantly. If the size of it terrifies you though, I'd go with Neverwhere as well. And then you could watch the series (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115288/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) and listen to the amazing radio adaptation (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01r522y). The cast in both cases is phenomenal and so are their performances!

This is always a fun question. I started with Sandman and then read Neverwhere. I usually tell people to start with Neverwhere, because it's accessible and fun but I think "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" is his best work. It gets dark and weird very fast, but it is the distilled brilliance of his writing. If you are only going to read one, that would be my pick.

what do you like to read?  do?

otherwise, get one of Neil's short story collections.
at least one is aimed at what publishing calls "juveniles"

ok, i've ordered Neverwhere (named "Nessun dove" in italian) and the first volume of Sandman (I liked V for Vendetta a lot, i think i like comics :) )
but American Gods and The Ocean at the End of the Lane are in list, if i like his style!

to answer to your question, lentower: i like to read all, Philip Dick, George RR Martin, Palahniuk, DF Wallace, classics... Dante!
but i like to HAVE books, touch and smell them... IBS is my ruin!

thank you all, mates!

You'll feel right at home with Neil!Sandman advice: read more than one volumes. The story gets better as it goes...
