Title: Great Ideas that you are too Lazy/Incompetent to bring to fruition
Post by: Brittany on August 24, 2007, 04:39:27 PM
Please, will some place other than McDonald's... a nice restaurant... make an indoor play place for children?  There can be a Children and a Non-children area, with a wall in between, so that the ruckus won't disturb other patrons, and the Children area can have tables in it.  It would make so much money!  I'm sick of eating chicken nuggets whenever I want my son to be entertained, rather than trying to climb under the table.

There's a restaurant chain in England (In the whole UK?) called Pizza Express, and they have italian food (but not just pizzas, also salads and other stuff). I went with the kids I look after the other day and I have to say they were excellent. They have a kids menu that's £5something, and the kids get 3 courses plus complimentary side salad with that. Obviously the portions are smaller, but the menu has what grown-ups have, and you can have the dishes altered a bit too (like adding pepperoni in the marghareta pizza) for free. Whilst the kids wait, they get fun book and crayons so they're not jumping all over.

They have kids with other people, but I think after certain o'clock kids are not welcome anymore.

A pillow that stays cool all night. Due to some sort of cooling liquid inside or something
I think I eventually saw it years later and was upset.

I've come up with a few ideas that years later i would see had been invented, long after i came up with the idea.

TBIAASATT

I'll agree to it if you tell me what it stands for.

You had this big ass elaborate plan, I thought it had been developed here.  I've been looking for the thread.

We're gonna be rockstars, guys.  Me and Tim and Brittany.  Brittany might not know that, yet, and I just learned about it.  But it sounds like a great idea, nonetheless.  Then I can work on my list.

Exactly.  She means someplace where you don't have to spend a minimum of ten or twenty dollars to keep your child happy.

We talked about it last night.
All we need are some instruments and time and talent and stuff.
we'll work it all out.
I got some ideas.

At the risk of setting off some major shit...why should any restaurant have a play area? My parents would begin to take me & my siblings to restaurants when we each reached the age of 3. I remember it seeming so cool to be doing something that seemed "grown-up" in my eyes...something "big kids" did and all that. Plus, I knew that, if I fucked up and acted like an insufferable brat, my parents would dump me off with my aunt Angie's sister-in-law (mean old Mexican lady who used to babysit us from time to time) next time while everyone else went out to eat.
Anyway, whatever - that's my 2 cents.

i've always wanted to change the declination of the moon's orbit around
the earth to .5 degrees relative to the earth's orbit around sun

this would give us two or three lunar and solar eclispes most every month

they are incredibly beautiful, especially total solar eclispes

granted i was competent to do that,
i would add 5 more moons in the same orbit around the earth,
equally spaced in a hexagon

they would each be in two of the other Lagrangian L4 or L5 points,
which would make for a very stable orbit

yup - six times the number of eclipses each month
(a maximum of 18 a month!)
and 3 moons up in the sky to look at all the time!

ocean tides would be diminished alot though,
which would change the environment a good bit

though the tidal braking on the earth's rotation would increase
six-fold, so the day's lenthening would speed up

was lookin at clouds on my 4th attempt to see a total solar
(scored on attempts 1 and 2! ;-)
and thought to myself,
how could we make these happen more often ...

an ideal way to do the first would be
a force field that allowed the transfer of
angular momentum at arbitary angles
- could just steal some from the Sun or Jupiter

also be a nifty space drive - i know of no known theory
to design such a drive from

a way we can conceive of would be based on
robotic nano-tech
bring in massive amounts of
hydrogen and oxygen from the kuiper belt,
and put massive rockets on the moon,
to slowly change the declination of it's orbit.
would take a lot of H2 + O2

i'll leave the second - adding five moons -
for the rest of you for now

yeah, we have a great game plan.  First, we're going to name the band make a myspace page.  next comes the album art, and we'll book some shows.  then we're going to figure out some tunes, and we'll rent some instruments, and learn to play them.  tim is doing back-up vocals.

ewwww, fix that quote.

Yeah, it sounds like a great plan.  Maybe I should rent a cello, again.

You guys have to design the album art, because I can't draw.

Are you and I going to take turns doing most of the singing?  Tim should probably stick to just backing vocals only.

We need to rent a drum machine, or maybe Isaiah can make some drum beats for us on fruity loops ( ;D).

Can we sing like the black girls who backed the Rolling Stones?

Maybe they weren't black.  Which would be okay because we aren't, either.

They should put little pH scales on deodorants, so you could eventually find one that's perfect for your body and get it right every time, even when you change brands.

and hugo, my son doesn't think that way, yet.  I don't think all 3-year-olds have maturity foremost on their minds -- but maybe it is just mine.  Either way, it's not my fault, it's the way he was made, so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Nerd alert!

Although the five moons would be beautiful, I'd feel for the people on the coast that would probably experience the weirdest tides known to man. This includes myself.

I'm trying to imagine what a tide with 5 moons would look like. I suppose if you placed them correctly the gravity fields might just cancel. No, then they'd have to be around it in a sphere instead of an orbit. I think. There'd have to be some resonance that could cause HUGE waves...maybe.

Florida would be fucked.

I...I'm...going into a...nerd...coma..... :o

(Are the LaGrange points pretty far from Earth? Does anything even have an orbit at a LaGrange point? I took frickin "send shit to Mars" class, I should remember this.)

six moons total

the LaG points of concern are as far away as the moon is

the solar tide would become the major one, with high/low tides less then half of what they are now
this is the major environmental effect

some tidal basins might have some resonance from the ring of six months, but for the most part the tidal gravity cancels out

it would be lovely

There are 2 LaGrange (a-how, how, how, how) points in the earth/Moon system; 60 degrees ahead of and behind the moon in its orbit. The moon's orbit is not constant; it's slowly moving away from the earth but, when it reaches 450,000-500,000 miles or so out, it will have slowed in its orbit so much that the Earth's gravity will start drawing the moon in again. If the moon gets close enough, it'll break up and the earth will have rings.

There are five Lagrangian points in any two body orbital system, including Earth/Moon.

Two Lagrangian points (L4, L5), as hurricane hugo describes.

Three Lagrangian point (L1, L2, L3) on the line formed by the centers of the two bodies one between then, and one of the other side of each.

The Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagrange_point) article is not bad, as they go.
