AFP FLYERS: Download, Print-Out & Post!
Hayley Fiasco!:
Even with the rise of social networking, street promotion for concerts is still an effective and fun way to let your town know about an upcoming AFP concert. This thread centers around flyer promotion and will provide tools & information on how/where to post flyers to get the word out that AFP is coming to your town.
RECOMMENDED:
Use this black and white Fall 2009 tour poster as a flyer! Post it up in locations and use a sharpie on the bottom of the paper to write in the date and venue of the tour stop that's hitting your town!

Click Here to view/download a pre-made AFP flyer. It's a black and white image.
Print a bunch of flyers at a time. Take a sharpie and fill in the relevant info - the date of the concert and the venue it is held at.
ATTENTION ARTISTS
Use this thread to post fan-made flyers for other members of the Recon street team to use!
Requirements:
-The images should be sized so that they can be printed on a standard sheet of computer paper
-Use of color is great, but it's preferable for designs to be readable if printed in black and white
-Leave specific concert/venue information blank so that the flyer can be used for any/all stops of the tour
Don't be afraid to make or draw a flyer by hand and then photocopy or scan the original to print out copies.
HOW and WHERE TO POST FLYERS
It's very important that you post flyers in the right places - not only so that they will be seen, but also so you don't break any laws, upset shop owners or litter. Keep in mind the target audience is potential AFP fans or casual fans that are unaware AFP has a tour stop in your town; this means you'll have to use some common sense as to where to hang up a flyer. For instance, if your college campus has a bulletin board for off-campus events that's a good spot to put a flyer. If your local church has a bulletin board for church news that's probably not the best place to put it.
Examples of where to post flyers include:
College campuses, CD shops, cafes, skate shops, theater production houses, bulletin boards inside indie or college radio stations, in the break room at your job, on public bulletins, a mall or shopping center etc.
General rule of thumb is to ASK a business/shop BEFORE you post anything on their property. Most small cafes have bulletin boards that they open to the public for announcements - look for places like that instead of pasting a flyer on a blank wall.
Quarter Sheets/Postcards:
When you print a flyer so that the images appears 4 times on 1 sheet of paper (or in quadrants) it's called a quarter sheet (get it?). These are preferable to full-sized flyers only when you are passing them out directly to people, as the font is generally too small to be noticed when it's hanging on a wall.
-Use quarter sheets only if you intend to pass them out to a person after a concert, on line at an event etc.
-Make sure you pick up any left over or discarded quarter sheets so you are not littering.
-Ask shops/cafes for permission to leave a stack on a table or at the register counter
When in doubt where to place a flyer, always ask. DO NOT under ANY circumstances post flyers where you know they are prohibited or in places where it is illegal to post bills. Remember you're representing The Reconnaissance on behalf of AFP; thusly, it's important that you abide by all local, college (if on a campus) and state posting rules and regulations.

stallionbreaker:
I felt inspired to make one this morning because she's not with the Danger Ensemble for the November tour. It's b/w from a photo taken at the HousingWorks gig in June. Go here to download the .doc file.
Here's a preview:
The .doc file has a white border around the image.
