The Original Cambridge is essentially my home town, so I'm biased. It has some stunning architecture (the colleges, churches, chapels), a world famous choir (Choir of King's College), some nice real pubs, wonderful parks and greens, cool cats, and of course the river Cam, where I spent many a day punting. Messing about on the river...

Dang. Just read that he's passed away. Cambridge won't be the same without the anticipation that he may be seen down by Petty Cury.

Oh, and there's Jim Garrahy's Fudge Kitchen, with over 50 flavours of fudge. And free samples every hour.

Cambridge, MA... has its charms. I am enjoying my stay, and have done so on previous trips here. Aesthetically, Harvard can't hold a candle to Cambridge University (I have suspicions that parts of Cambridge University pre-date Current America, judging by the statue of Henry VII on King's Parade...). Geographically, I prefer Cambridge, UK. The city has a hub, whereas it feels to me that over here, the place has a spine to climb up and down on. The centre of Cambridge, UK is pretty much pedestrian-only, with the exception of service vehicles etc. and then there's another pedestrian area on the otherside of... that park... by Drummer St. Bus Station. It creates a sense of a smaller centre, one that surrounds you.

Although there aint no Café Pamplona in the British Cambridge. Nothing that comes close. There is a great vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free place though. Tiny place, down some stairs, homemade food. Delicious. The Rainbow Café, I believe it's called. On King's Parade, a few doors down from the fudge place.

Punting is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon on a hazy summer's day. Get a friend to punt, you can sit back and enjoy the Backs. And watch tourists go by on guided punt tours of the Backs, looking at the colleges.

Ahhhh, memories.

Perhaps it has all changed. I haven't been for a long time.

Right now, Cambridge, MA beckons me with its busking permits and devilishly good teas.

Edinburgh has a castle mount, two lochs (Dunsapie and St. Catherine's) and a magnificent hill and cliff range (Arthur's Seat) in it's Town Centre.
