Yeah it's just the NZ dates that are set. I'm so excited! I'm praying for an Adelaide show, but I have a feeling she won't stop here this time :(

Hanging.Very.Tight!

I wonder how many dates there will be... I doubt I'll be able to travel around to see numerous shows again next year. I lost my job/business in July and have zilcho in the $ department. Doing internships now which mean no prospect of money for quite some time! :-\

I hope that whenever the shows are, that they don't interfere with my goal of working my arse off at uni next semester...because, if it comes to a choice between Property Law and AFP, I'm afraid I know which one I'll choose!

Thanks, and yes fingers crossed for you as well!

I am sure I can get to at least one show in Sydney if she has one, so it's all good, I just really loved getting on a plane every weekend and going somewhere else when she was here. I definitely can't complain if I don't manage to do that again because it was amazing to be able to do it at all. I just hate not having money now, it makes me very uncomfortable, I've not been in this position since I was like 15, a fucking decade ago!

I take it you're not turning 18 in January? What state do you live in?

Damn so no where near 18. So chances are it'll be at the Corner Hotel and strictly 18+ ... Fingers crossed it won't be the case or she can do another gig somewhere for underages. Sydney was all ages last time so maybe you could come up here!

There is a venue called the Evelyn in Fitzroy that have all ages gigs... 400 capacity room!

Anyway I'd assume everything is already booked if she does tour Oz in February.

You know sometimes if you call ahead to the venues prior to the event you can ask if they'll let you in as long as you are accompanied by a parent or guardian. SOME do, not all so once you find out where it is, it's worth a try!

I do like that Amanda usually plays at the Corner when she's in Melbourne, since it's actually pretty close to home for me, but just once, I really, really, really want to see her play at the Forum.
I know it's bigger than the usual Amanda Palmer venue, but it's my favourite venue in the world! Plus, there is a bar on both sides of the room, and that's just impressive

The fact she sold out in Melbourne so quickly last time would probably make that realistic. She has played in a venue of similar size to that in Sydney and it virtually sold out but her following in Melbourne is bigger! They never do all ages gigs there though do they?

QFT - the forum is a way better space than the Corner.

Nah, I don't think so. 18+ is how all these venues make all their money. It's so rare to see an all ages gig these days

I reckon she could sell out the Forum though. Or come close to it

I think I have seen one or two shows on sale there that were all ages. Fuck I don't miss the days when I was underage!

I just hate not having money now, it makes me very uncomfortable, I've not been in this position since I was like 15, a fucking decade ago!

I take it you're not turning 18 in January? What state do you live in?
i'm turning 15 in Jan >.<
& i'm in Victoria

Damn so no where near 18. So chances are it'll be at the Corner Hotel and strictly 18+ ... Fingers crossed it won't be the case or she can do another gig somewhere for underages. Sydney was all ages last time so maybe you could come up here!

There is a venue called the Evelyn in Fitzroy that have all ages gigs... 400 capacity room!

Anyway I'd assume everything is already booked if she does tour Oz in February.

well the evelyn sounds appropriate haha. it is an evelyn evelyn tour, with her and jason separately as supports right? i swear i read something along those lines somewhere...

I think that's later in the year and not sure if they're coming to Oz. I think playing the Evelyn for that would be awesome!

ah ok! well i definatly wouldnt mind amanda twice in the same year! :D

mum: "yeah"
me: "well,l i don't think thats gonna happen,  i was on the 'box and people were saying most places in melbourne are 18+..."
mum: "WHAT?!... Well, im sure they could let you in if i went with you or something?! we could ring them up when the dates are set if you like?"
me: "yeah, okay.  well, i could always go to sydney...there's all ages places there...."
mum: "no."

Just check with the venue first. They MIGHT let you in.

Will be talking with my AFP/DANGER ENSEMBLE travel buddy soon about Melbourne. I am really strapped for cash but I don't know how I can't go. Will keep scouring for Sydney dates as well!

I have a sneaking suspicion that because its a theatre and not a hotel , they may have the type of liscence that allows you to go with a parent , but dont hold me to that.

Karina did you want me to get you a ticket when I get mine?

ahahaha I wish. Unfortunately my guilty conscience/paranoia/everything always gets in the way. I'll live.
A second show would be amazing, provided it was underage friendly. If not, I'd be content with ukulele signing or whatever. =)

I am so going to that Bungalow gig!!! Only issue is it's a Monday night and I live about 9 hours from there I think! Oh well my internship doesn't pay me so I think they can deal with me not coming in for a couple of days. Still considering Melbourne. I'd prefer to go to Melbourne than Brissy even though it's slightly more expensive...

I really want to go to all of them... I think I may have figured out all the logistics it's just a matter of finding the money.

Basically fly to Melbourne as usual. Then I think her Sydney gig will be shortly after, if she has one. Then either fly or drive to Byron and drive or hire a car or catch a bus to brisbane and fly home. All the flights are mega cheap at the moment so if I can figure it out with my friend it'll be quite doable...

hmm that sounds good! i might try and do a similiar thing! only minus queensland. i dont really know anyone i could stay with there, i have friends in melbourne so i want to go there anyway. and a byron adventure also sounds fun, if i could convince my friends who can drive that a road trip is in order...

I quoted it all and it looks as though it'll end up costing about $500 each which is a bit much. I'd much prefer to give Amanda $500 than the fucking airlines and bus companies. We'll see what happens though. We are most likely going to go to Melbourne and Byron but maybe not Brisbane. It just seems a waste to be 2 hours away and not go. I just wish it was on the 9th not the 10th then we wouldn't need the extra night accomodation.

Shiny I think there will be a Sydney gig in between the Melbourne and Byron one if she goes upwards. Unless she leaves Sydney until last and flies out from here at the end...

You're kidding?? That's balls. May not end up going then. I really have no money and was relying on it being an early birthday pressie from my family. I think Melboune Byron and hopefully Sydney if it's ever announced will be enough... Maybe.

yeah, it sucks. but it's a lot smaller than where she played last year (The Tivoli), so the plus side is that it will be a more intimate show... and no photo pit for inconsiderate photographers to get in the way? haha trying to convince myself it's a better venue :tard: so jealous that you're going to multiple shows!

Well I have no money and haven't booked anything so it still might not happen but fingers crossed!

The photographers at The Tivoli pissed me off so much last year!

Guy I doubt there will be more than one. She didn't sell out the Tivoli which is probably why she's playing a smaller venue now. It makes more sense for her biggest show to be in Melbourne where she has the most fans. Who knows about Sydney. I still can't find anything!

Just read that thing on the Zoo website about cameras and recording equipment.  That is lame!  They let us take cameras in last time.  It's not like Amanda will care about people taking photos, but I guess if it's venue policy there's not much we can do.  Maybe a few people should PM Amanda/her people and see if she can talk to the venue and have them make an acception.  I doubt it, but it's worth a try.

I hate that there is no aircon though, that was just uncomfortable and hot as hell.  But yeh, the more intimate venue is awesome, and the fact that the front row is leaning right on the stage is great - I hate crash barriers at concerts!

Oh, and the Tivoli photographers = annoying as hell!  I had so much trouble seeing around them and their heads are in half my photos.

Yes Bec, in response to your PM, I'm planning to go.  Looking to see when tickets are on sale.  I'd say it won't be too expensive, given that it's at The Zoo.  Also, hoping for more Brissie dates, it seems like she may be here for a while this time and I'd like to go to a few shows.

^ tickets are already on sale: http://zoo.oztix.com.au/default.aspx?Event=13979 I bought mine already :P

$48.00. I can't remember how much tickets were at The Tivoli, but I do remember Amanda telling us that she was shocked at how expensive they were and that she wouldn't play there again because of it. $48 is fine with me, I've paid more to see musicians I like far less than Amanda.

as for cameras, The Zoo (recently?) have changed their policy on it - it now clearly states in big bold red writing on the top of their homepage that no recording or photographic equipment is allowed. part of me is kinda happy about that, as much as I love taking photos... it might be nice to just watch a concert for once, and there won't be any annoying flashes.

edit: I see you've already read the site! :tard:

Tickets for the Tivoli show were $50 I think the last time... Possible like $52.

I really doubt there'll be a load of shows this time. I think the Zoo will be the only Brissy one as she is also playing 2 hours away in Byron and has dates in NZ only a couple of days after the Brisbane show. So Sydney, Adelaide and perth, if there are going to be shows there, will have to be in between Melbourne and Byron.

I copied this directly from the AFP tour site. I am pretty sure The Forum, who legally are NOT allowed to let minors in, are not going to advertise letting them in with their parents. Especially with all the hype about underage drinking going on in Oz at the moment.

There is a loophole that allows minors to be on the premises with a parent or guardian but it is up to the venue and I have never seen it advertised because they try to keep it to a minimum.

Edit - This is the information from Ticketek

I'm not sure of loopholes etc, I just thought as it was a theatre not a pub , it may have a different class of liscence, that allowed minors with guardians.

Now given that mostly fans come to the the box for info, if we know that the venue will allow them , it would be nice to put it on here,  as I'm sure we can all remember what its like to be underage, and really wanting to go.

I can understand about not advertising it on Amanda's site though.

I would tell minors to contact the venue and get the information for themselves directly. Not secondhand from us.

Bec, I just bought my ticket as well.  I got one of those e-ticket things, which is good - I won't have to worry about forgetting the ticket or anything.

I will be nice to just watch a show - I'm usually trying to get photos.  Plus, I usually want to try and be in the front row mostly to get some great shots, but if we're not allowed photos I think I'll be a lot more relaxed and maybe won't get there so early.

they said the only reason that the 18+ rule is present is becuse of the alcohol, and that they'll let minors in if they're with a legal guardian or parent and if they can prove that the person with them is their legal guardian or parent.

yeah, I'll hopefully have a full time job by then so I doubt I'll be able to get there as early as I have the other shows. and because The Zoo is so small, it's not like you can even be that far back from the stage anyway. just kinda bummed we won't be able to get any photos with Amanda after the show (unless I use my iphone... hmm).

I'm going to the Fringe show in Adelaide as well as the one in Melbourne. I've go t a whole bunch of friends in Adelaide who are also going, so I figured I'd fly up there also. Plus, I'm staying for a couple of days, so I get to check out some of the amazing stuff that goes on at the Garden of Unearthly Delights.
I'm really looking forward to it. I ended up getting a hotel room in the city within walking distance to the Speigeltent (even though I got flamed by all my Adelaide friends for not staying at any of their places), but hey, I'm getting my bonus from work soon, so I'm going to splurge!

Dude Crystal and I just bought tickets for the Adelaide show as well. Decided to go with Adelaide over Melbourne. Let me know the name of the hotel, maybe we'll stay there as well if there are rooms still available!

I'm heading to the Adelaide show also, but I'm cramming my fringe experience into one day/ night and not bothering with accommodation. Karina, you can see The Hamlet Apocalypse on the same night as Amanda. I believe her show finishes at 8pm and the other starts at 9:30. That's what I hope to do

Yeah, definitely. I'd actually be pretty keen to check that out too, and the venue they are at is only about a 3 minute walk from my hotel, so it's pretty handy for me!

Karina, I'm staying in a hotel on Hindley St, so it's super close to where the Speigeltent is! It's called Adelaide Paringa, and they did have rooms left when I booked mine. But get in quick, hotels will go fast with Fringe!

I'm staying a few days in Adelaide, so I'm going to try and check out quite a few shows, while also catching up with friends. There are so many great shows to check out this year! I'm really quite pumped for it

I have to admit I was a little  :-\ when I realised it's only an hour... I'm sure Amanda will be able to do signings but definitely not in the tent, and possibly not even the Garden because there is so much on in one night. Also she may want to check out other shows herself so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It would be so awesome if she had a late late night show that night after Tom Dickins gig. I wouldn't even bother springing for Accommodation!!!

Amanda Palmer - The Danger Ensemble - Tom Dickins - Amanda Palmer again... That would be a night full of awesome... Probably a little unrealistic though.

What concerns me is that a 2nd show will be on at the same time as Tom + Jen or The Ddanger Ensemble , hence why I havent booked for those shows as yet and may stay there a couple of days.

I haven't booked for them for the same reason, but to be honest, I think if she does have a show when they are on I may still go see them. I have NO money so I am getting this trip as an early birthday present so I figure it'd probably be better to see a couple of different things in the day I am there. We'll see though.

It's a really tough decision though. I hope Amanda decides what she is doing soon!

Does anyone know how the Spiegeltent thing works? Will Amanda be able to do signings?

I have to admit I was a little  :-\ when I realised it's only an hour... I'm sure Amanda will be able to do signings but definitely not in the tent, and possibly not even the Garden because there is so much on in one night. Also she may want to check out other shows herself so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

yeah the speigltent limits the time but its such an amazing venue, and the times ive seen her there have probably been the best. also the times i saw her there she had a desk set up for signings and photos and stuff. meant lining up for a while if you werent quick but also made sure she didn't miss anyone

I booked my tickets for the Danger Ensemble and Tim Dickins now. So if Amanda does have another show while they're on oh well...

Sydney tickets are still not on sale...  :-\

I might be able to make it to the Bangalow show, but I won't know until much closer to the date. Does anyone have any idea roughly how many tickets there might be? I looked up the venue's website and the hall seems quite big, but if turns out to be a seated show then... ahh. Really considering just buying the tickets now and taking my chances. :-\

Folks, I hope I'm in the right place - is anyone at all looking to drive from Sydney after the Opera House to the Bangalow show, like overnight? OR, from Brisbane to the Bangalow show, and back to Brisbane? I don't drive and my roommate and I want to do Sydney-Bangalow-Brisbane, and would split petrol money with anyone who is road-tripping either Sydney-Bangalow or Bangalow-Brissie!

My friend and I may go to Bangalow from Sydney but haven't decided yet.... If you then go onto Brisbane which we probably won't do there is a bus that's only about $35 from Byron to Brisbane...

My Melbourne tickets arrived!!! Cant believe i get to see her again so soon. I have the best luck with AFP shows! I went to London last year and while I was there I got to see her. I thought the Union Chapel show in London would be it for ages, then BANG she is playing a show when i just happen to be in Melbourne! (Perth girl!)

Yaaayyy!

I bought a ticket for my boyfriend only we didn't realise it was on the same day as soundwave and he also had a ticket to that.

I managed to get row E. I initially had row B but by the time I got to the check out they'd sold on me. I had to buy 4... I love that you can choose your seats at the Opera House but hate that they aren't actually reserved until you press BUY NOW. Anyway I'm happy with row E. Thinking I'll give Byron a miss, but we'll see.

27-30! Maybe we can ask the people in 31 and 32 to move down one and you can sit right next to us!!!

I've been thinking about Byron, I really can't afford to fly. The flights are about $59 each way which isn't a great deal but it all adds up. I'd prefer to give Amanda $120 over Jetstar! It's a 10 hour drive from Sydney though! It'd be much cheaper to drive and get one night accom but it's the night after Sydney so it means we'd have to leave early in the morning, after being up late seeing her, and we all know it will be late, and risk not getting there in time!

I wish she'd made it on the 9th instead of the 8th! Then going to Brisbane would have been do-able as well because we'd only need to pay for one night accom in Brisbane. Driving up on the 9th would be far easier as we'd have been able to sleep the previous night so driving 10 hours and seeing her that night wouldn't be as hard. Then the following day we'd drive to Brissy, which is only 2 hours and drive back the next day.

I don't think it's going to happen so anyone who was going to try and catch a lift with us you may need to book a flight or find someone else.

So who here would like to win the chance to have a glass of wine with Amanda and ask her 3 questions?

You have to be over 18+ for this though...

Hi,
I notice quite a few of you are going to the Adelaide show. Would anyone be interested in keeping me company there? I'm 17 and from country Victoria, and no one else I know was willing to put in the effort to come to the concert with me, and it would be nice not to have to just be a loner there. I'm going to the Hamlet Apocalypse too, coz I decided I had to see it again.
Thanks random fellow Palmer fanlets :)

going to the Brisbane one. Understood it like we were just to show ID and our names would be at the door?

Yep, that's what happened last time Amanda played there.

That sounds swell. Actually, now that I think about it the chances that I would get there and have no one talk to me unless I had notified them in advance are pretty slim. People are always nicer than I expect them to be... although I've never met Adelaide people :)

The soundwave going Melbourne crowd... Did you hear FNM are playing with AFI for a second show? Tickets sold out but they are still around. Perhaps see if you can buy one of those and sell your soundwave tix, and come to Amanda Palmer too.

Here was me thinking Amanda had changed the date so I could have the full day  at sound wave *dodges all the rocks from the travelling people*

I'm going to Soundwave, and coming to Amanda's show missing FnM etc.

However I have GA tickets for AFI for a while so I get to see FNM too!! quite excited about that.

Cool, but if you'd said "im going to see FNM on wednesday though so im excited. " it would have been better.

I'm quite disheartened i have to sit through AFI not just at Perth Soundwave but now at FNM too!

*dodges rocks from EVERYONE*

Trying to think how I can help promote Melbourne. It's hard when I am not in the area to hand out flyers and put up posters. Even harder because I don't know the area. Everyone I know in Mebourne is already going...

I might try and hassle radio, I can do that from here.

I think you can get a bus... Otherwise taxi I guess. I think if I end up going we'll be driving. There could be room in the car if we do go but don't rely on us in case we don't.

So, I'm flying to Sydney this weekend. I dont really know anyone there, going for a concert, and then onto Melbourne where i'll see Amanda. I'm thinking of going to Taronga Zoo this Sunday, then hitting a few bars that night.

Any recommendations?

Or will any of you be out and about on Sunday...maybe I can crash a drinking session with some of your friends... :P

Taronga is crazy expensive but I guess it's something you should see. If you want music Oxford Art Factory has Sunday shows and The Annandale Hotel, otherwise hit up Newtown for awesome food and some good bars, or Oxford St (darlinghurst) and kings cross are my recommendations.

If I decide to go out I'll come on here and we'll swap details but I work on Mondays so it's not likely to be a late one.

Mette: maybe plan to go to SLAM rally because AFP could go... Well it would be awesome if she did.

http://www.slamrally.org/

Musicians and music lovers rallying to save live music in victoria from bastard politicians imposing ridiculous laws that have forced the closure of live music venues in Melbourne.

Amanda wrote this for the site;

“Live music has to be nurtured at ALL levels…it’s a community umbrella under which all people gather together. The ability for smaller musicians – especially nowadays with the death of the recorded industry – to make money and grow their audiences in small clubs and bars is CRUCIAL. You can eat in a restaurant without security guards, right? Don’t kill the food that feeds the soul!”

um, so I went to buy tickets for the Bangalow show and the website says: 2 for 1, $36.50, 1 ticket admits entry for 2 people.

http://kupromotions.oztix.com.au/default.aspx?Event=13986

is that right? and if so, has it always said that? because I swear I looked at it the other day and it was just 1 ticket for $36.50. hmm.  :-\
