I haven't read Shantaram. Is it good?

Also recommend Mark Danielewski's 'House of Leaves' :D

The Kite Runner.  It's great, so much better than the movie!

Someplace to Be Flying, Mulengro, Forests of the Heart, Moonlight & Vines, The Onion Girl, and Dreams Underfoot by Charles DeLint;

Prodigal Summer, The Poisonwood Bible, Small Wonders, and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver;

Anansi Boys and American Gods by Neil Gaiman;

Lillith's Brood trilogy by Octavia Butler;

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russel;

and Gardens in the Dunes by Leslie Marmon Silko

And The Red Tent and Wicked if you haven't already read those. And the George R. R. Martin Clash of Kings series (though heads-up -- they're addictive, and the series isn't finished yet)

Lucifer by Mike Carey.

It's a spin-off from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series, and like Sandman it was originally a comic series that can now be bought in the format of 10 graphic novels (trade paperbacks, if you prefer).  I really like Carey's interpretation of the title character, and the story is pretty epic in scope (but similarly to Sandman, there's a number of little side-stories that are largely unrelated to the main plot - I especially like "Bearing Gifts").  Also it has plenty of Mazikeen :headbang:

I maybe even like it more than Sandman itself.

Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson

I just finished that a  couple weeks ago.  I thought it was great.
It really is. I've always like Craig Ferguson as a comedian, but I have to say he's an amazing writer.

Another book I forgot to mention is The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood.
