Massachusetts folk, obviously. I know I'm scarce around here these days, but forgive me for skipping the formalities. I hope the gravity of tomorrow's Senatorial election is enough to get a lot of you fine, progressive specimens to the polls. The course of the nation will be impacted by this.

This past senatorial election disappointed me. BIG TIME.

primary election is today in Michigan. sorriest collection of gubernatorial candidates ever. there's going to be a massive turnover in the state legislature as well, because so many current members are term-limited and can't run again for their current seats.

bottom line: not holding out much hope.

Hey, maybe the new guys will...  I dunno, socialize the Lions or something.

should be an interesting race for the governor's job. for the first time since Right To Life of Michigan became a major player in this state 25+ years ago, neither major party candidate is anti-abortion.

i might not be back in time from the nyc d.dolls 10th.

going to vote in a bit. my city is under receivership; consequently, an "emergency financial manager" controls everything. he fired the city clerk last week - yes, 1 week before an election; that's genius in action for you - and a lot of the election workers stayed home in protest. supposedly, reserve workers and county commission personnel are filling in the gaps. i'll see when I get there, I guess.

It's not really a myth.
Yeah, theoretically, if enough people voted for a 3rd party politician they would get elected.

Buuut.. let's be realistic. How likely is that to - ever - happen? Ron Paul didn't even come close when he was running as a libertarian; and when he switched to the republican party so he'd have a fighting chance (at least, I assume that's why he switched), he was crushed.
No other third party politicians even have the ability to make their name known. No money, no status, no foot in the political door.
And unfortunately, those are the things you need to be seen and heard on the political stage.

Third party politics are relatively pointless.
We technically have more than two choices, but in actuality, the race is between two parties.

^ Not at the local level; the Green Party in Michigan has had members win city council seats in a few cities here in the southeastern part of the state, and they've done pretty well by their constituents. That's what you do for long-term success - build a farm team.

I don't really follow the Libertarian party anymore, but I hope they're having similar success. I know many, many smart people here who consider themselves Libertarians, but they won't get involved with the party, and that's what they need to do.
