Ain't gonna lie, Amanda's show on 2/26 in Melbourne at The Forum, needs help BADLY...
Since AFP's going up against the Soundwave Festival (a risk/decision we made rather than just not play Melbourne at all), it's gonna be tough, but now that My Chem aren't playing the competition*, maybe we can get some more people in the door.
Think you can help? THEN HELP!
We're working on getting some posters and banners and handbills and all that jazz, but please do tell your friends. Tweet it, call up long-lost friends from school, bulletin them on MySpace, RSVP to the show on Facebook, do whatever you can and please come, come, come.

Tickets can be purchased HERE, or you can use this link since it's teeny and easy to remember: http://bit.ly/AFPmelbs

All that, AND keep checking back on this thread for other materials we're gonna roll out to help spread the word.

Thank you all for your help and support, and most of all, coming out to these shows so that lil 'ol AFP can keep coming down to Oz!

* Best wishes to Gerard. THIS is what I'm referring to when I mentioned MCR cancelled.

Soundwave finishes at 10pm and a lot of people are wondering what time Amanda will be coming on stage so they can attend both. Maybe some of the promo stuff should have the time she is actually going to take the stage.

I bought my tix ages ago and I found them by accident - I was really shocked that an AFP show could go on sale and there be absolutely nothing about it anywhere except for the ticketing website.

I was wondering the same thing -According to the nice lady I just spoke to in the box office for the Forum, the stage times are not yet confirmed but if I call back next week she should be able to tell me. Of course someone more official (or Amanda) might know what's going on before that Smiley

It was very odd.

I shall try and get in touch with a bunch of record shop people and get them to spread the word. If I can help out with flyering/postering then I will let you guys know.

Hey,
My name is Chantal Hunter and I live in Melbourne and I'm free to do some promoting for you. I know all the cool places and I've promoted for festivals before. I love AFP and I would love to help out.

I'm from Hobart and going over to Melbourne for Soundwave. It'd be awesome if Amanda could play late (11pm?) so that people could still go after Soundwave. I for one know many who would love to still go. I'm mainly going to Soundwave to see Faith No More and of course they're playing last but it's still supposed to be over at around 10ish.

Like so many other Hobartians, I'm so disappointed Amanda isn't playing Hobart again

I've already managed to get quite a few people to buy tickets, and have just sent out a facebook invite to a whole bunch of people.
But if there is anything else that needs to be done, I'm more than happy to see if I can help

Perhaps if the show wasn't overage more people would be going. I know at least a dozen who can't go, but would.

I've put posters up at the second hand book shop where I work, and have been yapping relentlessly about the gig. Added 3 more people to the list of attendees just today. I walk past the Forum on my way to the tram each morning and am massively excited about the venue choice. Will continue to spruik this one.

If they are open to going with their parents then they may still be able to go. There have been other people here who have been told that they can go if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

I'm in Sydney and therefore rather useless but I have some suggestions...

Request AFP on radio lots and mention to the host that she is touring... I know Rosie Beaton from triple j is a fan of the dolls and maybe if you hassle enough she'll play her and mention the gigs. RRR would also be useful to target but I'm not sure if they have a request show? Melbournites you'd know more than me.

Arty folk - maybe do some AFP chalk drawings around the areas of Melbourne you'd think most AFP fans would hang out and write the date and the forum underneath.

Flash mob!!! Play dead! Or maybe a bunch of you just busk. Instead of putting a hat out for money, put a bunch of flyers in front of you or something.

Leave posters/flyers/promo stuff on trams and buses and trains, and in classrooms etc. Go to the Uni's and stick them up in the cafeteria's and TAFE/other adult education, target institutions that have music related courses. I'd say high school but under 18's are tricky. Ask around all the CD stores if you can put posters up in them or leave flyers on the desk. Box hill institute has a music course there. I know TAFE runs 3 different music courses in sydney so I stuck posters up in my classrooms and around the campus. They all got stolen as well. Not just taken down, stolen because nothing was put in their place, which is a good sign!

When AFP announced she was coming at the beginning of last year it was perfect timing for Sydney. I managed to hand out shit loads of flyers at the big day out and stuck up posters in various places around olympic park. I also went to the hottest 100 party that was in parramatta park last year and AFP was a contender to get in so i handed out flyers there and there was the opportunity to meet different triple j hosts so i went up to all of them and gave them flyers. I don't know if it had anything to do with me, but VJ mentioned to gig the following morning. It was also lucky that the speigeltent was in Sydney at the time so I hung posters in the bathrooms there and some near the opera house, and in newtown etc.

So the point of that last paragraph is to try and think of events or things that may be happening around Melbourne right now and target it. Even if you just go stand outside a venue and hand out flyers after a different gig. 9 times out of 10 the flyer will be thrown on the ground but hopefully there's at least some people that take an interest.

Anyone going to soundwave, if AFP does end up performing at a later time, take flyers to soundwave (hide them because it might be like BDO where they take all promo items off you unless you have previous permission i.e. paid to be allowed to distribute) and pimp the fuck out of the gig... Call it the official soundwave after party or something!

Yes, this.

Amanda is not happy that the age cannot be officially lowered as an all-ages show (believe me, we tried). Contact the venue and ask them what you can do - sometimes they let underage people in with a guardian (someone over the legal age). It doesn't hurt to try. Be polite and courteous when you call them.
