the problem with les bean movies is that they are so. damn. depressing.
Yeah, but you can say the same of films about gay males. Brokeback Mountain wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs.
I sometimes wonder how a film about a perfectly like-able gay couple who end up absolutely okay at the end would go over.
well, there are some, actually; even brokeback mountain was something of a throwback, following some of the more positive movies that it has. i'm trying to think of a specific title that escapes me, but in the end, the guy got the guy, so to speak; in other words it had a happy ending. it seems, too, there were also a lot more gay guy films all along, including many that were more mainstream, higher production, and so on.
the celluloid closet is a really good documentary movie about teh gay in films since films were a possibility. it lists just about anything you can think of, and follows the trends in movies through complete ignorance of blatantly sissy characters to current (well, nineties) movies. i found a lot of good film titles i'd missed before, or just never known about.
