we already have some forms of augmented reality:

gps'es in cars ...
smartphones in hands ...
displays on glasses may catch on ...

actually I was thinking about this the other day when noticing as kid wearing 3d glasses in the street.......our world could become a high tech emerald city, where signs and adverts come alive in 3d virtuality.... you just have to go around wearing the glasses

EXACTLY!

why have to juggle a smart phone in your hands?

wikipedia enries, google map images, etc could all be displayed
manipulation including level of detail and filters could be done
with vocal +/or sub-vocal commands ...

seoul, hong kong. etc have started along this road ...

I see a point in the near future where much of the content of the world that we percieve will be virtual....either by the use of smart glasses or further down the line by implant....we then will truly be living in the Emerald City..... those that cannot afford the hardware will become marginalised and cut off from the main populace, forced to live in a world of blank concrete

...and than we will have the raise of Wintermute and his fellas which will conquer the virtual world and the real world as a consequence.

i'd say just get rid of miscellaneous discourse and grey matters. that's what "everything else" should be for.

Wintermute? I am probably missing a cyberpunk reference

Neuromancer's main non-human character and Matrix entity.

:just: --> and I can't read them. Could you please slow down the bubbles?

I don't get down to this part of the forums enough (only when I'm making a thread to ask a question or checking one, to be honest) but I fully endorse this thread. Also, I move that all of the lower boards be registered users only. Is that too drastic?

Fine fine fine...

But we were promised JET PACKS!    :cussing:

In the meantime, us New Zealanders were quietly going about our business. Making it happen.

While I am a bit skeptical of the "jet" aspect, it is still clearly far beyond anything our own
sorry-ass national leaders have bothered to come up with...

Well done, Kiwis!

Just a matter of time until jet powered rocket pants are a reality.
