I know of a steampunk band called Abney Park, but I don't listen to them.
I do listen to a really good Swedish band called Waves Under Water which kind of has a steampunk visual aesthetic.

Some of the high quality steampunk projects people have done are neat but I'm not really interested in the culture.

Oh okay. I read the wikipedia page one curious evening (evenings when I google random shit and always end up reading wiki articles) and I didn't fully understand it. Then I saw this thread and all these pictures illuminated me. But I'll keep reading until I get a concrete idea. Thanks!

You are welcome! :]

Don't get me wrong, is just that it has many other details that are really cool and really clarifies why it is called STEAMpunk. Im not that much into the genre, Ive just read a few comics, watched some animes and read about it. You should watch Steamboy. It has some of the feeling of steampunk (and is a terrific anime, nonetheless) .

You should watch Katuhiro Otomo's animes. Akira, Memories. Katuhiro Otomo is fantastic.

Spriggan is really good, thought not from Otomo.

not a fan of anime styles and whatnot, the only reason i bothered with steamboy was the steampunk theme

You don't need to be an anime fan to watch Akira and Memories. Otomo's films are beyond your average anime/animation, way better than most of *any kind* of animation and even many films.
