Colds!
« on: February 25, 2010, 08:58:43 PM »

Any old fashioned remedies?

I have a temperature of 103.0 and I feel out of wack and am not sure how to get my temp down fast.

Tylenol is pretty much the standard otc for bringing your fever down, but
most of the things we think of as "headache pills" (aspirin, advil, motrin...)
serve the same purpose.

If your fever stays over 102 after you take something, you should see a doctor
(like now, not later), because it could be a sign of something fairly serious.

Beyond that, lots of fluids and rest.

Feel better fast.   :)

A friend told me to soak my socks in water and put them on has anyone ever heard of that?

It's one of a number of very-old-fashioned symptom-treatments... If antibiotics haven't
been invented to treat the infection, you could still try to keep the fever down by cooling
the extremities.....

Dipping your feet in a tub of cool water would work about as well as the socks-method, but
not as well as real medicine...  even the common, everyday sort.

Definitely not ice cream or anything milk related! Lots of soup and hot, spicy food.

Don't use advil. It's a muscle relaxant, and won't work as well for fevers. Tylenol is much better. Home remedies are great, if your fever isn't high. 103 is getting up there. Please take otc stuff, and if you're hallucinating, see a doctor.

Sounds like you're past the worst of it, but seriously 103 degrees is not to be taken lightly...

...to say nothing of delirium/hallucinations...

I'd see a doctor if I had medical or a million dollars just to see a doctor.
Eventually I will have medical so we will check in a few months.

colds suck. i heard you never actually have the same type of cold more than once as your body becomes immune when it heals itself, there are a couple of hundred types so you could have every one once over your lifetime.
