radiohead ukulele MADNESS
« on: February 27, 2010, 09:03:55 AM »

this is it, im in the studio with a ukulele

last call for radiohead ukulele cover songs by yours truly

already on the possible drawing board:

creep
fake plastic trees
no surprises
high and dry
idioteque

major qualifications:

SIMPLE. like, less than a million chords.
there are some GREAT radiohead songs out there, but they'd just be impossible for my sad little technique (exti music is a good example....SO. MANY. CHORD. CHANGES).
so try to keep it to simple songs that are singable without crazy radiohead production fanciness and only have 4-6 chords, tops.

hit me.

Unfortunately Paranoid Android isn't that simple. Even my favourite “rain down on me” bit has twice as many chords as some of the simple Radiohead songs (Hint hint: that part is good for ninja rainstorms) :)

How about the song that goes “nom nom nom, in its right place”? – Everything in its right place;D

Edit: but seriously... I like the shortlist so would be happy with any.
Edit again: So many good extra suggestions.  AFP should tread in the steps of Radiodread

Harry Patch (In Memory Of).....

It's a very Amanda sentiment...  dunno what ya might do with the song.
(And, come to think of it, I don't know that uke sets an appropriate mood.)

I was going to say Just, but it might be a bit tricky.

The Clock (by Thom) is very good on acoustic guitar but might be boring on a uke.

The Bends (song)?

I don't know how simple it is chord wise, but I can imagine No Surprises sounding awesome on uke.

Any and everything from the Bends (CD) gets my vote :)

Thinking about it... I bet We Suck Young Blood could be made into a really melancholy and beautiful uke song...

I think even the bit tricky Radiohead songs can be simplified... especially if your voice overshadows the instrumentation/ukulele playing (vocals = instrument).

I've never worked it out on guitar, so I'm not sure how many (or how hard) the chords are, but how about "Anyone Can Play Guitar"? You could change it to "Anyone Can Play Uke". Speaking of "Pablo Honey" songs, "Stop Whispering" is a favorite of mine but again, not sure of the "toughness" factor though.

I agree with Hayley, anything from "The Bends" gets my vote as well. "High and Dry" might be an interesting choice that doesn't have a ton of chord changes. I'm guessing "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" falls into the "too hard to play on uke" category though. I used to do that song in my acoustic group and it was hard enough to play on guitar.

if only paranoid android didn't have so many chords, it would be amazing if you played that.

karma police is pretty simple and a great song. BUT, if you're only choosing one do "no surprises". it's one of my favorites.
