so, i've decided my thoughts boil down to this:

Its so amazingly, epically, weird i know its the kind of thing i won't be able to share with everyone because it will just go over most people's heads. Witch makes me both happy and sad.

...also, its fucking brilliant.

since that vid surfaced on youtube a while back i was really excited about this song, and i was more than happy to see it on the tracklist of the cd once the pre-orders were announced.i haven't heard the entire cd yet because i'm in the army currently and i didn't have the time yet, but i managed to put the mp3 of "myspace" on my mobile and listen to it yesterday.

i'm sad to say it but i was very dissapointed by the choice of production and instrument use that give the song an 80's vibe.anyone else feel this way?i'm thinking of removing the music entirely so i can listen to it a cappella since the harmony is simply stunning, and has been stuck in my head since i first heard it.

Just listening to the first song, Evelyn Evelyn, and thinking about how nicely they establish in one song that the twins are real individuals with normal feelings who want to go ice skating and be movie stars and just want some time alone. So bittersweet, so heartfelt. AFP pours the full power of her passion and voice into this one. I think this song goes a long way to addressing the issues that some have raised about the act being "ableist". The song shows great compassion and respect for them.

i think you summed up my exact feelings about this record....
the only person i've shared it with so far is my sister. she loves it.
it's not the kind of music you can give someone on a mix or something.
it's something you have to give someone a little bit of context about, and go tell them to sit down and listen to the whole album in order to understand the story. (and a lot of people, for example my parents, don't have the patience or time to sit for an hour and pay attention to something audial without losing interest...Most music can be background noise. this isn't that sort of album to me)
it's sort of like watching a movie or reading a book...you cant skip around in it, and (most of) the songs on the record wouldn't seem to make sense if they were to stand alone.

so instead of saying "my favorite song on the evelyn evelyn album is..." i almost feel more inclined to say "my favorite part of the evelyn evelyn story is..."
but thats why i love it  :)

at least thats my opinion.

Indeed. I shared it with my friend Lylie so far, and she loved it. :D

And I think that some of the songs would make sense, but they wouldn't make sense, you know? Like, "Elephant Elephant" or "My Space" would make sense, but the message wouldn't be seen so clearly. People would just see them as cute/fun to dance to/clever etc... They wouldn't get the entire emotional aspect behind the story of these songs. At least, that's how I see it.

Yeah, that's sort of what i meant. They'll make sense on a surface level. but let's say you put one of the "tragic events" tracks on a mix for someone...the reaction of someone would probably be "WTF?"
Lol.

So my (twin) sister knows all about Evelyn Evelyn and it's cool to be able to talk about it with her... but I tried explaining it to my brother, who has no clue what EE are about... and the more I said the more confused he seemed.

It's hard to grasp, I think, no matter how you explain it, to some people who are going in to this completely cold not knowing anything about the project or the music.

It's interesting how some of you guys feel about not being able to relate to the lyrics... and as a twin myself, there are some really poignant themes, issues, feelings that may or may not be unique to the twin experience covered here. I feel like there are some truly sad moments, when you least expect. My Space - is a good example of a song that's both funny while also conveying loneliness - with the use of the internet and in general.

"You Only Want Me Cause You Want My Sister" is another good example - at face value is funny and haunting, but if you strip it down and see what it's saying... it has some really valid, and not so hard to relate to feelings by representing jealousy... it's funny to think of in a conjoined twin context, but you can place it in other contexts as well.

You have to look at the songs in multiple contexts, similar to a lot of Amanda's songs where the songs can be about multiple things.

oh my gawd, I mustve listened to this album ten times already  O0
this album is so good and well written. The story is moving and I think the narratives are just as good as the songs. I could visualize it like a movie and it was awesome. When insaw the tragic pt II was 11:11 minutes I thought it was gonna be a really powerful song that would make me cry but when it turned out to be a narrative, it was just as powerful as I thought it would be.

Overall this album gets a bajillion stars.
Amandas vocals are beautiful and Jason is just as amusing
I LOVE this album  :D

I must admit I haven't been able to get into it as of yet. I find it hard to take the songs seriously because I know the songs aren't written for Amanda or Jason, they're written for fictional characters. But having said that some of the songs are rather touching.

And is it just me or does anyone else get a Danny Elfman vibe from some of the tracks? Namely Evelyn Evelyn and Chicken Man?

Also, I don't like the production of My Space. Too much reverb on the vocals :( though I do like the 80s sound.

Maybe I'm just being over-defensive of an album I instantly fell in love with, but it seems like some of you are trying very hard to come up with reasons not to like the album instead of just taking it in? How can the fact that it is written as a fictional duo take anything away from the music and how it can touch your heart? How does the production on one tune (that fits in with the story time-line) be such a downer?

I mean, if it doesn't reach you, fine. I'm not begrudging all critical thoughts on the album, or telling you you are wrong for feeling this way, it just seems to me like some people are over-thinking and under-feeling. If I am wrong, tell me why? Just trying to get deeper into what you are trying to say, because this is the first album I have cared for this deeply in a long while.

Anyway, I have realized listening to this album that I have made a huge mistake in never checking into Jason's stuff. A mistake I am going to undo as soon as possible.

I'm totally speaking for myself when I say this, but I'm not against the album or anything. I just haven't fell in love with it yet ;)
I'm having trouble connecting with it like I do with Amanda/Dolls stuff.

I really like the album, i love hearing the story in the songs and how all the songs have a different vibe. someone else already mentioned Lemony Snicket, well... I agree!I liked all songs.. except My Space:

I agree with how you worded it :) strip off the eighties vibe and i'd love it for sure!
