I just finished listening to it... I'm not sure if I absolutely loved it or thought it was pretty bad.

I love most of the actual songs. The Tragic Events were a nice (doesn't seem like the right word somehow.. haha) touch, but I felt they maybe went on a bit too long. 20 minutes out of a 55 minute album was just speech. It's not that I didn't enjoy it, cos I really did. I just felt like I was listening more to an Evelyn Evelyn musical than a CD. Like, they were going through, a bit of speech, then songs, then more story, then songs etc. I think the reason it feels a bit weird is cos I wasn't expecting it. I was just expecting to listen to a CD of music.

Also, I think people on here hyped Chicken Man up too much. I've only listened once, but it seems a little bland at the moment.

Other than that, I really did enjoy the album. Or at least I think I will once I listen a few more times knowing what I'm actually listening to.

Also, when I put it on iTunes, track 3 came up as The Magic EVents of September... hahaha.

Cool, I didn't quote you two, because I was also reacting to other general comments as well.

I thank you for your kind clarifications. NOW LOVE THE ALBUM OR DIE!!! ;)

I really like the album, i love hearing the story in the songs and how all the songs have a different vibe. someone else already mentioned Lemony Snicket, well... I agree!I liked all songs.. except My Space:

Quote
i'm sad to say it but i was very dissapointed by the choice of production and instrument use that give the song an 80's vibe.anyone else feel this way?i'm thinking of removing the music entirely so i can listen to it a cappella since the harmony is simply stunning, and has been stuck in my head since i first heard it.

I agree with how you worded it :) strip off the eighties vibe and i'd love it for sure!

after my first complete listen i have to say i'm very pleased with the final result.i believe this cd has one of the best opening and closing songs ever made, so no matter what happens in the middle you start off and end with a marvelous feeling of enjoyment.the vocals are incredible, and the story is heartbreaking, so much though that i think i could never go to a live show and laugh with elephant elephant anymore(or with any of the other comical references for that matter).
i'll be definitely listening to the songs of the cd apart from sandy fishnets that i found a bit blant, and i'll keep the heartbreaking story of the twins at heart.i still think the same of "myspace" (so devastating that it ended up this way), but overall i agree that both jason and amanda have all the reason in the world to be damn proud of this project.

apart from the lemony snicket reference, i'd add that the evelyn sisters remind me a bit of a far more tragic version of the kransky sisters (check them out if you haven't already)

The Elephant Elephant instrumental reminds me of The Jungle Book.

it's catchy.

I like it because I like the way Amanda sounds when she screams at the end (reminds me of Karen O's part in "Do They Know It's Halloween").

Second listen.

I think part of the reason I'm unsure of it is cos I don't really know what to make of it. As I said, it reminds me of a musical, telling Evelyn and Evelyn's life story through the music. But then, having said that, some of the songs seem sort of out of place. I feel Campaign should be after Tragic Events either II or III (can't remember which) once they join the circus. And Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn? doesn't seem to have any real relevance to the "story" as such.

And I still don't really "get" Chicken Man... Just seems to be 3 minutes of E&E repeatedly saying "Chicken Man" :|

having said all that, I do really like it and think it is an amazing idea. And I'm jealous of everyone going to see them live. I bet the tour will be beyond amazing.

It's a concept album, which is why it tells a story... :)

The thing with Chicken Man, for me, is that I tend to find emotion in the melody of songs... even without words - so even though they're repeating the same two words over and over, the way they sing them conveys emotion (and a story) to me.

If you listen to lyrics in songs as the primary or main focus, Chicken Man is understandably not a stand-out track.

Yeah, and I love that aspect of it. Just that, going with the whole story thing, a couple of tracks seem a bit misplaced for me.

But WHAT EVS (;)) halfway through a third listen, and I love it alot now <3

i wasn't really keen on my space and you only want me... at first but they eventually grew on me :)
i don't really think the 80's sound to my space really works though with the rest of the album.

I'm kinda suprised how many people don't like the 80s sound of my space. Personally I love it and I don't think it sounds TOO out of place considering that the songs are all so different anyway also Amanda is an 80s kid lol.

I know I'm just getting defensive though because I'm in love with the album  ;D. It hurts knowing that at one point I was going to see Evelyn Evelyn live  :'(

I have a lot of things to say about this album, but i keep not writing them out.... i swear i will some time soon...

in the mean time help me out on some lyrics guys (especially you lucky people who got the vinyl and the lyrics)

from sandy fishnets:

"Soaring over the sea with the wind in her sails, and a knife in her teeth.  At the helm of a ship, on its way to a distant shore.  ???? and an uncharted island, Sandy we're all getting older.  What will they do with us, when they are through with us? Sandy, what are we sailing for?"

this little 40 second bit happens to be my absolute favorite part of the album, i find the lyrics heart wrenching and completely applicable to my own life.  But i can't figure out that one line for the life of me!!  Help!

Bermuda or Thailand, an uncharted island. ^ - ^

And I agree. I think Sandy Fishnets is possibly my favorite song on the whole album (if I had to pick), mainly because of the passion put into it and that one part that makes me want to do trapeze. xD

Another lyrics questions: In You Only Want Me... is it "If you think you're seeing double"? That's the only logical conclusion I can come upw ith :) haha

your amazing thank you.

Honestly i hated Sandy fishnets when i first heard it.  Sandy's theme was my favorite off the EP (especially the accordion solo), i guess i just had really high expectations.  But its defiantly my favorite now, some times you just hate your favorite things before you love them.

Last night around 1 am i was sitting up on the edge of a cliff in this rock saddle of sorts that over looks Malibu and the ocean.  The sea breeze rushes your face and it feels like you are sailing this mountain over the ocean.  There was a full moon and fog creeping up the rocks. These lyrics where obscenely appropriate.
