I've been following the project for a while, though, I must admit, other people here have been following it much longer.
The record overall is pure magic. I felt like certain aspects of it were adorable enough to make me smile, and touching enough to make me want to start crying. It's a record that reaches out to all, and asks for nothing in return, and it's absolutely beautiful. The twins should be very proud.
The opening title song is probably one of my favorites. It's so deep and sad and sweet... wow. I love it. What a great opening to an album. "Campaign" is great too. Upbeat and fun, and it makes me want to do backflips in the rain wearing a bright pink tutu. "Tragic Events Part I" sort of brings us back to earth for a moment. I suppose in the second song we sort of loose ourselves in this magical world, but the girls bring us into their lives of the past. It's intimate, deep, touching... a bit sad too. I found myself staring into space, vivid images being brought before me that made me want to say that everything would work out. "Have You Seen My Sister, Evelyn" is back to upbeat and fun. A cute and loving song that makes one want to start swing dancing. Enjoyable, and it makes me smile when I listen to it. "Chicken Man" sort of does the same thing, only with an air of mystery. It's an odd song, but good, all the same.
"Tragic Events Part II" left me wide eyed with all of this emotion stirring inside of me. It was as if I was watching this before my eyes, and I just wanted to reach out and freeze time. I don't know why I felt this way, but maybe that's what they wanted to do: capture you in their story. "Sandy Fishnets" was a bit melancholy too. I felt really bad for the adolescent by the time the tune was over. Knowing the story behind "Elephant Elephant" adds a hint of a melancholy feeling to it, but in a sort of loving, "I miss you" kind of way. It's not so much sad as it is mournful, and absolutely sweet. "You Only Want Me" brought us back to the upbeat, focusing off of the sad. It creates a good balance. "Tragic Events Part III" sort of wraps things up, and brings us closer to our end. It creates sort of a hope for, not only our heroes, but the listeners as well. It's deep, and the last bit sort of leaves you on the edge of your seat, making us yearn for more.
But it doesn't end there.
"My Space" is a powerful, rock anthem. It sort of reminds me of something off of a Queen album (something like Bohemian Rhapsody, or something), but in a good way, of course (because who doesn't love Freddie Mercury?). "Love Will Tear Us Apart" wraps up the CD nicely, sort of a soft ballad for us all at the end of the story. A nice, final note.
All and all, it's a beautiful record... Maybe beautiful isn't a word that does it justice. Either way, I think I'm in love. <3
