I hate River Song, on many levels, but LOVE the Weeping Angels and The Moffat Man. Love Love Love. I'm so glad they only gave Mark Gatiss one episode - he just sucks balls.

^^ Am also mightily pissed it's a two-parter. I knew, but I totally forgot until the end credits came on and the entire front room went, "Oh, WHAT?! Come ooooon!!" xD Also loving the non-gurning and the Pond <3

I hate River Song, on many levels,

I love her name and the idea of her.. but, yes, the character herself is kind of annoyingly smug. Although I can imagine her being a lot worse (if played by a different actress.. I cannot bring myself to dislike Alex Kingston because she is a fellow curly. I feeeeel her hair. And resent those who attempt to straiten it.)

Also, as the Doctor gets younger.. I kind of like the "older" woman aspect of the storyline. There must be a 20 odd year age gap now between Matt & Alex. Bit kinky that. Mildly subversive. And a welcome reversal (if you ask me) of the longheld tradition of the Doctor being significantly older (in real life) than his young innocent (love-sick, eye candy) companion.

I just hate the fact they used Poisin Ivy's thing at the start of the episode.

from Batman Wiki
Powers and Abilities
She specializes in hybrids and can create the most potently powerful toxins in Gotham City. Often these toxins are secreted from her lips and administered via a kiss. They come in a number of varieties, from mind-controlling drugs to instantly fatal narcotics.

This even appears in the terrible Batman and Robin Film, which is probably where they got the idea

Ah, come ON! Killer lipstick is one of the oldest, coolest things in the big strong space-woman's repetoire. YoSaffBridge anyone??

I agree that the older-woman thing with the baby-faced Dokta is pretty ace, but River Song is just so smug and.... Smug! That just exactly the word! I don't hate Alex Kingston at all, I think she's marvellous, but the character's just crappy.

Am I the only nerd here who also watches Doctor Who Confidential? I'm so stoked that Steven Moffat said when he was talking about River Song being the Doctor's wife, "Maybe she is, maybe she isn't - maybe it's something much, much darker than that...." o.O Knowing Moffers, it's something darker. It's always something darker with him xD

I was talking about Doctor Who at college today - it's like standard conversation for Mondays when it's been on at the weekend xD - and we decided that it's about bloody bastarding time they had either a gay or a black (or both SHOCK SHOCK HORROR!!) actor play the Doctor. Thoughts?

So the doctor would regenerate with a different sexual preference? I know his personality regenerates but his sexuality?
Just like you can't have the Doc be a woman, you can have him magically switch to Gay/Bi just because it'd be cool IYO

I'd love to see a clinically insane Doctor with an overly theatrical goth assistant but that won't happen

Back on track with the ivy debate. The originality timeline goes like this
1st IVY - 2nd Saffron (firefly) - 3rd Some crap DW character.
Ps. Saffron used a chemical to knock Mal out, the other two used it to seduce/entrall. Different stuff there.

I said a gay ACTOR xD I don't mean he'd be gay - for most of the old eps, he was barely even sexual at all. It's just there's never been an openly gay actor playing the Doctor, and I think it's such a huge part that it's started to be a bit weird that, of everyone who's ever been considered, a gay man hasn't even been accepted. Obv it only counts if they can actually bloody act, but still, it's just a thought.

Why couldn't you have a female Doctor?

You could totes have a goth companion, and DT's Doctor towards the end was getting pretty bloody crazy - his whole thing at the end of the Waters Of Mars was MENTAL.

As for the killer kisses, who cares?! It's a COOL thing for women to do xD It's like the ultimate femme fatale thing. As for it being nicked off other people, every story is nicked from something else, it's just in the telling that it develops.

Will this do?
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/r4dUQgIaXGg" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/r4dUQgIaXGg</a>
...or will you insist on Joanna Lumley, who's in one of the parts of "The Curse
of Fatal Death" that seems to have been removed from YouTube?

(...and who seems a bit surprised to have regenerated as a woman...)

Meh, even our strippers aren't that pretty....

While my actual firsthand experience is limited, based on that experience and a few episodes of
COPS and such, I have decided that Hollywood's unrealistic beauty expectations extend to such
as strippers, prostitutes and, apparently, police-officers.  :'(
