Russel T Davies did a wonderful job  on resurecting Dr Who but he really should not be allowed anywhere near scripts... all the good episodes were the ones written by other scriptwiters (stephen moffat among them) anyway... Neil Gaiman's episode is now going to be at the beginning of next season rather than the end of this season

much to Audrey's annoyance:

I reacted to the episode like this
decent acting by the main two DW and the new girl. But dosen't he look like Joe black (uk cabaret performer) who co-incidentally has the surname Smith (maybe they're related)

My main gripes with post millennium Doctor Who
Crappy CGI aliens that haven't the polish needed to make them feel like a real threat. It needs more focus on prosthetics over human performances (cgi is never lit right, never as textural or visceral as physical costumes - this is why various fans when attending conventions choose to dress up as the deadly angel statues, brood queen or the clockwork characters)

Hand crafted costumes by skilled art dept and not some dick in Wales who thinks he is working at ILM (iron man is believable that eel alien thing was just laughable)

The fish toothed warped faces of the bodies it took the form of were more effective at being creepy and threatening. The eejits who do the CGI need to realise that less is more, Its easier to scare using shadows and part reveals.
ok Ill continue..

* Watered down threats to the main cast and ridiculous get out of danger scenes (never feel like any character is in real danger therefore the villains never feel dangerous enough)
* Crappy pop-music tie ins which no doctor has ever had "here come the drums?" yes they reduced the master to a gormless idiot. The 1970/80s master was much more evil and had more presence as an actor.
* The crappy new title sequence, the fact they 9/10 set the action in London which blows. There are other cities in the UK and many better locations in the world that they could film in.
* The fact every Doctor since the millennium has been under 50. Pretty ageist for the BBC

TL:DR
Probs with Dr who
cgi is piss weak and lets down good performances by DW+assistant
aliens as threatening as teletubbies
needs more focus on handmade costumes/aliens and suitable lighting effects
needs to stop the pop music and focus on scores instead.
BBC is ageist against older doctors next doctor will be 10 and his assistant will be a foster Mummy.

I leave you with some piss weak cgi alien... ooh scary

Whenever we watch Doctor Who, Johnny complains about things and describes other ways it could be done that would basically turn it into a giant horror film/massacre. It's a family show, it's fun, stfu.
They are going with what families at the moment will sit down and watch, not what a 30 year old film geek who likes to watch people get killed wants to watch.
I had figured that was fairly fucking obvious but apparently not.

I'm not talking about making it into aliens, or friday the 13th and I am fully aware it's a family show but
look at the pictures and tell me which is better, a crappy (1st year of a 3D degree student quality) computer game looking eel
or the three physically crafted villains above?

I rest my case Mr.misses the point

if I have to listen to you rant about the new assistant not being as hot as all the people on boards think
then you have to listen to my art dept views :P

I am not missing the point. You are pretending that you meant something different to what you've been saying to me since the first time I mentioned to you that I like Doctor Who.
While I agree that the 'physically crafted' ones are better, that has never been your main focus in this seemingly eternal argument about Doctor Who, of all fucking things for you to obsess over while simultaneously saying you don't care much about it.
Enough of the epic douchery, Johnny. Bored now.

now now kids!.... I agree about the cgi.... for the most part it has been awful....and decent costume is much more effective.... we shall have to wait and see what happens to the new series, but Stephen moffat is almost certainly going to make it darker and more in line with older series.....as for the doctors age.... it is kind of Dr Who lore that he will gradually become younger through each incarnation... so yes his final incarnation would probably be a foetus....

I don't even really care. I just think that if you're going to watch something, instead of complaining to people who do enjoy it about how you think it should be and why you hate it, shut up, stop watching it or accept it for what it is. This applies to all of the TV shows/movies/etc. people have stupid, pointless arguments about.

I don't see it!!!! I really don't. She looks really fucking average to me. She looks like a 12 year old. She looks like a really average 12 year old and I think you're all insane.
Bah!

Also Johnny sucks for throwing that in there. It was irrelevant and I don't feel like defending my opinion of Doctor Who's assistant to the shadowbox.  >:(
I don't care what anyone else thinks. I just don't see it.
