Old Leedy Bass Drum
« on: May 16, 2010, 08:35:10 AM »

How old? 1920s! Got this 28 inch drum for 100 bucks at a used music store. Always wanted a big old jazz bass drum, so I can build an authentic trap kit like they used in the 20's. This thing even has calf skins on it. It sounds HUGE!

I had a feeling you would be the first to comment...

Your drums are awesome, no need to be jealous. Not to mention yours fit into a small car with more ease!

Haha, that's true. Even though I love my own kit, I really have a thing for vintage type kits O0

I think this clip represents the power of this thing a bit better.

No verb, just a bit of compression.

I have found that these drums are a lot more common than I once thought. I see them on ebay all the time. Knowing that, I am more inclined to decoupage the thing like my other drums. The finish is wrecked anyway.

I am going to part with it too. An old artist friend of mine is making me an electric version of a Bouzouki (an 8 stringed instrument used in Greek and Celtic music).
here is a link to Beth Patterson playing one...

He wants me to trade art for art instead of paying him to do it. So I am making him a drum set using my powers of decoupage and restoration. I will post pictures(in a separate thread) of the set as I start working on it.
