I also am confused. But it's AFP, so whatever it is will make sense when she sees fit.

well if it IS a show or something, that sucks considering the majority of the people saving this date won't be able to attend.

I'm fairly sure it finishes before Halloween because the thought of something special happening on Halloween was consideration I made when I was trying to plan my stay over in Boston. The unfortunate thing (for scheming ML) is that long distance travellers will now be even keener to get tickets for the later shows so that they can attend both. I'm not quite sure what this means for my plan. I think I'm doing £400 better than I thought I would be but that might not stretch me. I might have to scheme up something new...

I really hope so. I'm gonna start saving for the trip right now.
- Final performance of Cabaret on the 29th.
- Touristy things on the 30th.
- Halloween 2010 with Amanda (and hopefully Brian) on the 31st

It's gonna be a good time.

On that note, I've got to say--this is one of the nicest forums I have ever posted on/read/visited.  Although I don't check all of the subforums, I don't think I've ever seen any major problems or nastiness.  Sure, there are occasional disagreements and even some harsh words, but aside from a random troll here and there--everyone is nice, supportive, friendly, or at the very least civil.

It's refreshing.

And, to try to keep this on topic: YAY HALLOWEEN!  I don't even want to try to speculate what this could be.  But, I'm going to try to be there.  Wherever it is.  :)

I wonder if I can ride a bus for cheap to Boston...
I'll be 18 then, so my mother better let me if it comes down to that!
I feel like it's going to be something awesome and I don't want to miss it.

Neil will be at The House On the Rock for Halloween.  I wish I had the money to make that!

It would be awesome if what ever this is is close enough to go to, but even if it isn't for me, I am excited for those who do get to!

what it saids is that Neil will be on panels on 29 and 31 oct 2010.
that leaves him more than enough time to make ti wherever a is on 31 oct 2010.
especially with fablor handling arrangements and snafus.

i'm tempted to go.
i've yet to see Frank Lloyd Wright's
Taliesin in Spring Green

I was more pointing out to all the people that thought it might be a wedding day that it was highly unlikely, seeing as there is other stuff already on the agenda.  Yeah they are both "rock stars" but I am fairly certain they won't put stuff like a panel on the same day as their wedding.   ;)

I would have to hit the lottery at this point in order to go.  *sigh*
I haven't seen any of FLW's houses in person yet.  I think the first one I want to see is Falling Water.  I *could* drive there, as Ohio isn't *too* far.  One day!  :D

Falling Waters is about an hour's drive southeast of Pittsburgh, PA.

If you go, also check out Kentuck Knob,
one of Wright's later Usonian houses,
but built for a very well off couple.
It's about a 10 minute drive south of Falling Waters.

Yeah, it's a wee bit more of a drive from the DC area.  I think I'd have to plan to stay in that area if I were going to try to see more than one house.

Depends on how deeply you want to look.
the basic tour of each was about an hour when i went

it should be trivial for neil to get from spring green, wi to the east coast in 12 to 18 hours ...

Maybe Pollstar fucked up and meant the 31st of October.....http://www.pollstar.com/resultsArtist.aspx?ID=61756&SortBy=Date

pollstar fucked up by posting anything at all.
i'm curious how a database error like that happens....it's not like the dolls playing irving 7/31 when they were active, either.

in any case.........halloween info will come from us soon. that error ain't it.

Here's what Sean said in the interview on bandcamp:

After that? Well, we’ve told the fans to keep Halloween clear. Amanda may or may not have some obligations somewhere on the east coast to conjure up some friendly ghosts from the past and do a really special show. Maybe.

http://blog.bandcamp.com/2010/07/21/fan-feeding-frenzy-afps-new-ep-ftw/

Who can these ghosts be? What is Brian up to in October?

I wonder when there is going to be a formal announcement of what exactly this is.
My mom said that she would pay for me to fly to the east coast as a senior present.
So I want to book a flight!

I am CROSSING MY FREAKING FINGERS that this is all ages. I can only come to one Cabaret show so I have no excuse not to come to this if I can.
And if Brian is there, oh man. I think A should have a scavenger hunt.

Remember when you were a kid, and you told your parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles,
the mailman and anyone else you could catch EXACTLY what you wanted?

And then your birthday rolled around and you got hand-knitted mittens?  ...and you
couldn't complain, 'cuz Aunt Sally put a lot of love and care into those mittens, and
really they're totally better than the toy X-Wing fighter with flashing lights and sound...   :-\

The moral of the story: you can get what you really want, or you can get a surprise, but
you really can't have both.... and hey, hand-knitted mittens are nice......  right?

I refuse to get my hopes up, plan travel or otherwise look forward to this, cuz if I do, it's gonna
be the niftiest hand-knitted mittens ever, and I don't wanna jinx it for everyone else.

nnnnnnnnnnnnno.  nothing was better than the x-wing with the flashy lights.  no gift ever came close, or ever will again.  except the millennium falcon with the opening hind end and hidden cargo ports.

I'll be a little disappointed if Aunt Sally gives me mittens, but I'll love them all the same.
Even if it isn't the Dresden Dolls anniversary show that I want, Sean did say in the bandcamp interview that the show was going to be special.
And I don't want to miss a special show.

im 99% sure the dolls are gettingback together. when the cliks and hunter valentine rolled through stl to play a show, they crashed at my place for a few days and they brought with them lots of gossip :) lucas (the cliks - for those that dont know, brian briefly played drums for the cliks) said brian was telling him the dolls will be touring in the near future, but lucas didnt know if this halloween secret had to do with the reunion or if they were writing new material.

also, i just want to add that if you have a chance to see the cliks or hunter valentine live, DO IT. good music; good energy. if you have the opportunity to talk/hang with them, DO IT. they are all so incredibly friendly and amazing to talk to, especially adrienne (hv) and lucas.

I still have that at my family home (one fo the few toys I've kept from my childhood) it also made a nnnnnnzzzn engine noise :)
Falcon>X-wing

Back on Topic - if they do plan to play I hope they are kind to their fans and let us know at least 2 months in advance so we don't have to pay an arm and a leg to make it there.
imagine if 60% of the dolls total fanbase invaded one city in the US
IT WOULD BE PERFECT

Also I'd probably cry my eyes out if it so happens to be The Dresden Dolls.
I got SO CLOSE to seeing them on their last 2 tours together, but ended up getting so badly fucked. :(
I never even made it to ANY concert until four years into my AFP/Dolls love affair in Knoxville November '09. It was better than I could've imagined. She came outside and talked with us then and seemed quite sad at the fact that she'd not even talked to Brian in months and said she'd love to get The Dolls back together for at least one show.
Either way it will be so amazing! AND I'll be with a bunch of my LOFNOTC comrades :D FUUUUCK!  :toothy9:

Back on Topic - if they do plan to play I hope they are kind to their fans and let us know at least 2 months in advance so we don't have to pay an arm and a leg to make it there.

it's likely that contractual details and signing are delaying the full announcement, but if you wish, remind team chaos that flight prices go up after 1 sept
did i do the math right?
and days eariier, if people want to also go to Cabaret

imagine if 60% of the dolls total fanbase invaded one city in the US
IT WOULD BE PERFECT

CENTRAL PARK CONCERT!!!

wonder what the fan base would have to contribute to sponsor a

I'm so torn.

I'm also a huge World Inferno fan (loved them way before Viggie got involved) and they haven't done a show since last Halloween. They've said, many times over, that they'll always play hallowmas, even if it's their only show of the year. They've given out NO details about this year. There's rumors floating on their forum, but they scarcely seem believeable.

But now with Amanda saying save Halloween, if it IS a Doll's reunion, I would so very much love to go to that.

Over the past few years, there are so many shows that I just missed/should've travelled to go see/really regret not going to, that I'm convinced that, whatever I do at Halloween, I'm going to miss out on something big, either way.

I turn 16 this October.

If it IS a dolls reunion, I might actually ask for my birthday present just to be plane tickets to where ever it is.
I can sleep on the street, but I don't care, I am so going.

AFP's mailer and blog stating "there's something BIG coming September 7th". Presumably that's the date the Halloween event will be announced.

that's just in europe though. and maybe some other places, but not in the us.
we will have an extra hour of halloween though, nice!

@roadkilleater: october 31st is the end of summer time/start of winter time in the uk and (most of) the rest of europe.

It's not Halloween night that there's an extra hour in Europe unfortunately, it's the night before (the night of Saturday 30th). OK technically it *is* Halloween as it's at 2am that the clocks go back, but I'm sure most people think of the Sunday night (31st) as Halloween night, and presumably that's when the secret AFP thingy will be happening. I think the clocks change a week later in the States.

I'm organizing an effort to film the NYC show and produce a fan multi-cam edit (DVD, perhaps Blu-Ray).  I've started a thread here.  If you want to help in some way, please drop a line over there and let us know what you can do.

Just bought two tickets for myself and wife, though I'm not sure yet if we can definitely make it. Halloween is our 1st anniversary and we were already thinking about hitting up NYC... so perhaps maybe. Looking forward to seeing a legion of shadowboxers if we make it out. If not I'll try to get the tickets to someone who wasn't lucky enough to get in before it (and this inevitably will quite quickly) sells out.

So, I'm in the process of buying INSANELY expensive tickets to the Halloween show (I'm an idiot. Let's leave it at that.)
But, I live waaaay out of town and was wondering if anyone would A) be able to put me up for the weekend of the show, or B) be interested in splitting a hotel room near the venue?

OK, so I typically record most shows I head out too, particularly the AFP sets. Be that as it may, this very special show happens to fall on my first wedding anniversary, and I would like to be able to enjoy the show without being rigged up.

Sooo, cutting to the point, is anyone else planning on recording high quality audio for this? If so, I'll pass and Robyn and I can just enjoy! I know there are plans for the multicam video, but I'm talking about a good audio rig (good stereo mics, amp, 16/44.1+ wav).

so excited!

Multiple sources are always a good idea...  It's insurance against any of the many things that can cause
a bad recording: technical, venue-staff, or audience-related....

I think people should tape/record the Boston shows, since they're playing both main albums in their entirety+ much more it will be a more comprehensive documentation.

The show was FANTASTIC. The Double Rainbow performance was the highlight for me, but the entire concert was a blast.

This was my first Dolls show and it was great to witness the chemistry and combined showmanship of Amanda and Brian. I'd seen Amanda Palmer and Evelyn Evelyn before...and I gotta say, I'm impressed that all three Palmer-related shows I've attended have been complete different from each other. At first I was surprised how much crazier the atmosphere was at the Dolls show than the other two, but once I adjusted, I had a great time dancing and singing.

Now I'm trying to decide whether I preferred this or Amanda's solo show in Williamsburg last year. Rock energy vs. loose and casual vibe...I can't choose!

i just answered a friend's question about the show with

‎45 min "the legendary pink dots" set - different from the set in cambridge last week. amanda said they had 70 albums, and a lot of different music

then jeffmaker took over the light board, and pyscho dave took over the sound board and there was 2.5+ hours of d.dolls performance with the quartet weaving the magic of one of the most awesome d.dolls show i've seen

they are stronger and better for the hiatus.
brian is also talking on stage a lot more ; - }
even wittier cross banter

the rock love between them, and with the audience was incredible.  many of the songs were unprompted full sing alongs

my 84 year old aunt was blown away, and wrote a thank you note (len: how do i mail this to amanda and brian? ; - )

amanda announced she was moving to nyc (i've been expecting this for over three years)

i'm awaiting both boston shows, and a bit sadder i decided to not go to sf for nye

this show was unique in my d.dolls history.
i brought someone.

my awesome 84 year old aunt.

which meant i had to be there for her.
which meant i couldn't:
* walk the pre-show lines back and forth,
and meet many of you there
* roam around the venue, and meet many of you then

back to my usual d.dolls show behaviour in boston

by the way,

near the start of 'double rainbow'
an immense rain of ballons
- all the colors of the rainbow -
were released

after an immense fan balloon 'battle'
they ended up on stage with amanda and brian,
which caused a few changes in their stage movements ; - }

This concert was AWESOME! :DD

I was second row (for most part). For those who were there, I was the one who called to Brian for help cause the security were being major douches about me recording. Also, I was the guy in the hat on stage with them during the Jeep Song.

It was an AWESOME night.

The show was beyond awesome. I first saw the D'Dolls on Halloween '05 and as great as that show was it's amazing how far they have progressed. I don't think I've ever seen they play better.  What makes it more stunning is that they havn't played a show together for such a long time (almost 2 yrs I think). I can't wait for NYE to see how far they can take it with some more time together.

The highlights for me were

Mrs O, especially at the end  when Amanda let the crowd finish the last verse
Double Rainbow, who doesn't love rainbows and balloons.
Bad Habit, it's one of my favorites and they don't always play it.
Pierre and War Pigs, only at a D'Dolls show will you hear covers of Maurice Sendak/Carol King and Black Sabbeth

Hey!  That's me in the background.  Loved your costume!

With the recording talk, I'm surprised no one mentioned this: http://www.theshadowbox.net/forum/index.php?topic=12621.15  If anyone shot video at the show, get in touch.  It's going to be a million kinds of awesome, more so if we can incorporate your footage.

I understand some people were getting hassled by security for taking pictures/shooting video.  Was this fairly isolated or more widespread?

The Kentucky show is next weekend and I am so excited!
Although I think I'm getting a cold so I have been drinking insane amounts of orange juice to help my immune system.
 ;D

p.s.
What's the word on a signing table?
I have never met Brian and I would love to meet Amanda again.

I was up front in the photo pit w/ 2 of my videographers.  While I expected the balloon drop, I hadn't applied the forethought to determine what that would actually mean to us in the photo pit when the rules of physics came into play.  We were surrounded in balloons.  Every movement we made created a series of pops and I lost track of my camera bag containing my spare batteries and memory cards.  Easily the most fun and surreal moment of the whole show.

hey, do we know anything about how/when the recording of this is going to be released? i saw shit-tons of pro cams around the club but no mention of exactly what is being done and how and when we can get our hands on it.

perhaps even odder, i haven't seen an audience recording of this at all yet. if anyone finds or has one please hit me up.

thx
