no. i wouldn't be caught dead in that suit. i've been stumbling across all kinds of cosplay pics in the last few days (probably because of the upcoming San Diego Comic Con), so i figured i'd make a display case of sorts for them.

First time Audrey met me I was on the streets of Carlisle giving free hugs in my edward scissorhands costume.
It should have been a warning she was getting involved with a guy who likes to make costumes both geeky and theatrical.

Still - this was the most fun comic film character to be.

Oh, Baccano.  O0

I'm going to Otakon (anime convention in Baltimore, MD) at the end of this month, and I don't know if I want to cosplay again. I cosplayed as L, Lady (from DMC3), and Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV in the past few years... I want to cosplay as the 10th Doctor but I don't have the threads and I'm poor.  :buck2: Also I have too much hair now and I'd look silly. But oh, it'd be fun.

I am.... confused. When do you do this "cosplay" of which you speak? If it's at conventions and stuff, wtf do English people do, because as far as I can tell we don't really do conventions... And what do you do if you look shit all like the person you're trying to be? I mean, I struggle to think of any characters in really unspeakably nerdy AWESOME television shows that I wouldn't look like a tool pretending to be...

England do tons of Cons ..*shakey fist across the pond*..
It's true that some people don't look like who they're trying to be, or look awful.. but it's all for fun. I try not judge but sometimes there's costumes/characters that just really don't suit the person.. not of the good.

Some people cosplay randomly, but mostly at conventions or parties. There's a ton of anime, manga and comic conventions in England I think, you just need to find them. Over here you have to search, 'cos they don't advertise. They don't need to, a ton of nerds have their ears to the ground for this kind of thing. :D
And it's hard to look like an anime character, as they have giant eyeballs and unnatural proportions. XD It's not supposed to matter, it's supposed to be a way to celebrate your favorite characters. Even if you don't look like them, acting like them is certainly a good way to get who you are dressed as across. It's also a great way to get free cigs (bumming at conventions while dressed as a popular character is a cinch!) XD.
I'd look like a tool pretending to be the Doctor, but DAMN it'd be fun walking around like that, with psychic paper and telling people to run.  O0
Edit (now including pics!!): I used Walmart's extensive wardrobe selection (LOL) to dress up as a Jedi, and I ran around with a lightsaber at 3am.
I need to ask my fiance to upload the pics of me as Ed and Lady. Those are cuuuute!

actually no. you would be surprised. Most of them are alternative kids like the boxers.
mostly people into pop culture and yes there are some comic book guys but hey don't judge indja.
I mean some people think obsessing over AFP and the Dolls is kinda stupid too.
Some people think burlesque is just stripping
some people think street performers are failed drama students begging.
perceptions wooooo!!!

Aaah, I wasn't judging - I kind of realise that there must be awesome people there, because you cool kids go, but you know... stereotypes die hard. Certainly I know that my experiences of going into comic book stores have been a bit of a mixed bag; I was partly basing my thinking on that. Also, I'm way too shallow for my own good. But we know this xD

Ear fail.
Robin Steampunk is cosplay technically.
Yeah it's also considered fashion by many but what '9-5 normal person goes outside with brass goggles and a plumbling pipe ray gun?
Cosplay is just Halloween for pop culture stuff. A bit of craic with some friends as characters from something you find mutually interesting.

Shadowboxers cosplay as Amanda and Brian every month here :)

I love those protest-protesters!

Also, I've decided on a character to cosplay as for an upcoming Con.
Crimson Viper from Street Fighter

(the hopeful outcome)

The costume's simple and I already have some of it. The rest will be easy and cheap enough to get. Plus, I'd kinda wear the outfit in general! :D
I'm gonna work on some others too. There's that con and another coming up soon.

Hopefully I will be going...

I was asked 10 years ago to stop coming to our local Starfest due to my dressing as my favorite sci-fi character, Jesus of Nazareth.

Apparently, folks were not amused. Art and humor are, happily, subjective.

^ A science teacher at my school used to wear a Star Trek uniform on non-uniform days. She also had enormous banners with Captain Picard's face on hung up round her lab, and photos on her desk of her wedding day where her and her hubby wore Star Trek dress uniform thingies. There was a klingon in one photo. I was very fond of her xD

Raliel, when they finally get around to drawing the right lotto numbers so I can
have my many-millions-of-dollars, would you mind running a bar/pub/club for me?

I figure you can accommodate all the happy weirdos who simply aren't served
(no pun intended) by more conventional places.  I'll be sure to come visit once
you get it running, and I can stand out because I have no tats, piercings or
conspicuously black garments...  or pointy ears.

....oh wait...  "Weirdo" is no longer the preferred term, is it?
"Conventionality Impaired Persons"?

The point is that some loser freaks out there will watch that and think it's OK to act like that. It's like weird spooks who refer to women as either "females" or "the laydeeez" - every single time they do it, they give some cunt the idea. Srsly, such things should be punishable by death AND I'M A QUAKER.

...oh, and I'm thinkin' Clone Commandos, rather than the later Stormtroopers.
i think I summed up the entire plots in the first couple of lines....
...but you missed the details: the murderous fellow-British-soldier, the good-superor/bad-superior
dynamic, the secret enemy plan that could destroy the entire British force, the way there's always
one "good" woman, but also one "bad" woman (who, despite being some sort of villain, or simply not
morally virtuous, desires physical congress with our fearless protagonist... who sees through her
façade, as well as her gauzy blouse, and declines)... and the noble foreign ally who faces discrimination
from British superiors, even the good ones, because he's not British....

I'm sure I've missed something....

Oh, another reason to set it in the clone-era of the Republic: the good-superior/bad-superior thing
could easily be converted to a Jedi/covert-Sith pairing...  Heck, you could probably get Christopher
Lee to star in the thing...

really didn't know where else to put this, but i am starting up, at a friend's suggestion, a tentative side business of making drawings of characters for tabletop gamers.  as i understand it, most of the kids doing this already on deviantart and such are kinda unreliable, so i'm seeing how it goes locally before i try it online.  if it pans out i'll also be doing some miniatures, in varying mediums, so it might be a good idea to hit me up while i'm still cheap and don't know what to charge, exactly.

I paint minis, but I don't do any original sculpts/castings....

What to sell 'em for?  No idea.

I can see what they're asking next time I'm in one of the local gaming shoppes.

oh, ill likely charge based on work.  if they want stuff comparable to the comic book shop, they need to be able to support a comic shop in this town, of which two have closed down in the past five years.  so, i'm the only game locally.  i'm already making a thing i didn't know existed, called a dice tower.  he wanted a wooden one but i think i have him convinced to let me make it out of stone.

My friend wants to cosplay, and then we got to talking. Since there's so many anime cons, where most of the cosplaying happens here - and I get in for free with my press cred - we're gonna cosplay together at one of them. This will be fun. We haven't hung out in years and we always have a laugh together. We have some ideas so far, but I'll post some pictures...if it turns out well! :D

there used to be a bar in london called Page's Bar it was in westminster somewhere..... it had the honour of being a full on Star trek bar..... every Saturday it would be full of people in costume... the barstaff all wore federation uniform... it was fun.... sadly it is now a suits and football bar
I've just read this now; I went to Pages years ago on a Buffy night and it was full of unfeasibly hot girls dressed like Faith. Now I'm going to be despressed for the rest of the day.

Haha! There probably will be some stuff sort of like that going on at them. I've never been at the parties or discos before.. might try stay for one this time. Miiiight.
My cosplay will be pretty tame though. I might be able to bust out my PK Misty costume and my friend will be Ash. The rest of our duo ideas so far have been both male. I may be -

The crazed knife-wielding Yakuza member from Versus (but with red hair), played by Kenji Matsuda <3 This movie goes way back for us!
 or

Kyo from Fruits Basket
and she'd be dressed as a complimentary charrie in either/both cases. Plus it helps that the costumes are easy and pretty much normal clothes :P

Hmm, I was feeling the need for a jaunty angled crown (the queen isn't nearly as whimsical), but if you insist...  :icon_queen:

I love to imagine these girls and the guys who turned them down for dates. The guys see them now and then realize how stupid they were for passing them up.

i'm thinking of making a new tank girl outfit for myself for halloween cause i found what would make awesome torpedoes (and they would actually cover mah bewbs) but it'll a) be way to cold here to actually wear it and b) i think i would get chased out of town

There is this thing called the Hawkeye Initiative & basically it is supposed to highlight the ridiculous sexism in comic books by taking Hawkeye and putting him in crazy positions that illustrators use to show of the female form in comics. I admittedly known next to nothing about comics I just find the sketches amusing.

I kinda agree with the others, but Vampirella IS supposed to be vulgar. The rest, is just fan service. [no positive thing here. i liked that when i was, like, 13, 14. but you get tired of that shit pretty quickly]

But seriously, this comics "what if male chars... " is getting old.

I think I see Cat Woman, Scarecrow, maybe batwoman/girl, and possible the Riddler?
