3...if you'd never heard of the Dolls?
1. and 2. Coin-Operated Boy. I was channel-surfing during my morning commute (about an hour each way at the time),
and I stumbled across what I thought was an adorable novelty record on Mancow's Morning Madhouse. I generally hate
"morning radio shows", but was intrigued by the song. The nice folks at Google provided me with the name and website
of the band, and as luck would have it, the Dolls played a show nearby about a week later.
3. I'd never have met ("for real" or on-line) a whole bunch of truly remarkable people, many of whom I count as friends
today. Ironically, a number of those people were at that first show, but I didn't actually make their acquaintance until
some months later. Perhaps even more ironic, a lovely young lady in frilly black and white asked if I wanted to dance...
It was so nice, and so completely random, and it made my whole night (as if it required anything more to make it great, and
even though I don't dance)
, and I still have no idea who she
(It wasn't Brittany; that was my first thought.)
