The Big Top in Luna Park Sydney
Big and flashy in a circus environment.

http://www.bigtopsydney.com/Tech_Specs.html

The Factory Theatre
Smaller but more flexible and adaptable spaces.

http://www.factorytheatre.com.au/events/factory

The Basement
Moodier setting with a lovely grand piano to play on.

http://www.thebasement.com.au/

Hope it helps Amanda. Me and The Jane Austen Argument miss you.

I don't really like the Big Top... To much open space, sound seems to just disappear plus it's highly unlikely Amanda could sell it out. Tegan and Sara didn't and they are HUGE here. Yes Amanda has a great following here, but Tegan and Sara are played on commercial radio and were on the cover of all the street press when they came. I do like the idea of the basement though and she has played the Factory before and it was great.

i had a real fondness for that place too..ran a monthly poetry slam there and it just had an awesome vibe.. although a tiny bit small for a big AFP gig it'd have been great in the warm weather for a bbq.

Somes Island, it was a quarantine area for immigrants back in the early days of New Zealand. Not it's conservation land, with historical value.

Also, I'm pretty sure if needed, I could convince my parents to make available a bed should you need a place to stay in Wellington, Amanda?

Adding again to this. I keep thinking, depending on dates, an awesome Amanda-Palmer-plays-campground camping concert experience xD

Ohhh and Percy's Reserve. There's an open field, surrounded by native bush, and (I think) there's a small stage there...

Representing the Gold Coast here.
Not really too sure about venues, I'm not that familiar with these sorts of things especially since I've only lived here 2 1/2 years, but I was thinking maybe one of the theme parks here could be used? Like Movie World, for example, or maybe even Dreamworld or Seaworld. Other than that all I can think of is a beach gig in Surfers Paradise. I know it's possible, they have schoolies parties there every November.

ooh this was worth joining the forumn for.

I don't have a big house, so I can't host, but I can suggest great vegan/vegetarian stuff in Sydney
http://www.baddemanorscafe.com/ and basically everywhere on King St in Newtown

For an outdoor ninja gig/barbeque venue that can hold a lot of people?
Bradleys Head (near taronga zoo) http://tinyurl.com/25vtadw
Biccentennial Park Glebe - huge, close to the city, and can accomodate a few thousand people easily
Sydney Uni quad - sandstoney and cool http://tinyurl.com/uniquad

A couple of pics of the skeleton gallery at the Australian Museum.

It'd be perfect for an intimate VIP-style gig. Maybe a limited number of tickets for a cocktail party and an accoustic set? I can find out costings if you're interested...

Another popular venue for Perth is the Belvoir Amphitheater (http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/Belvoir-Amphitheatre-tickets-Upper-Swan/venue/156505)  it's a little out of town, and a popular summer gig venue. Main feature is an outdoor sunken amphitheater with lots of outdoor space and no residents!

Closer to the city, there's Supreme Court Gardens. Also, ArtRage has a few properties in and around central Perth that can (possibly?) be hired for private functions. These are mainly older unused buildings.

Massey Memorial in Wellington, NZ would be something spectacular. I'm sure the weather would behave on your account.

Hello there,

Let me suggest the Palace Hotel in Broken Hill, NSW. It's a very unique sort of venue with the walls covered in paintings (it features in the film Priscilla Queen of the Desert if you want to have a look) and the town itself is quite interesting. Broken Hill is a mining town but it has a very strong artist community so I'm sure you'll get a good turnout.

I know the new manager if you're interested and I'm very close to the Tourism manager for the region. ALSO a big studio feature film is scheduled to commence production early next year so there will be a whole mess of crew members and cast looking to be entertained!!

It would be very fun.

I'm having trouble thinking of venues in Brisbane.

The Old Museum, maybe? http://oldmuseum.org/

Or, I'm not sure of the size of the venue, but Dracula's (Gold Coast) would be a cool venue - http://www.draculas.com.au/goldcoast_queensland/index.asp

The Sly Fox Hotel in Newtown might fit your bill - smallish, alternative and fun?
