It really depends. A night in a pub tends to always end early for me, as people will want to go to clubs around 11-12 and in the town I live, there really isn't any clubs that I like! So I usually go home and in a way think I'm missing out but if I'd go I'd hate the music and atmosphere in the clubs... If someone would be happy spending the whole evening in a pub with me it probably would be fun though...

The house parties I've been to whilst here have been infinitely better! I went to one last weekend and had so much fun, danced and chatted and laughed and ate and didn't have to spend much money at all, so at the moment house parties do win out.

If I would still live in my hometown, or in an area where they have really good rock clubs, it might be a different thing or at least a much closer call.

I don't like clubs either. I think it's the music they play these days - I'll be lucky to remotely know/like one track they put on all night...

i honestly don't know. i don't like clubs because i don't like the music and the people, i don't like house parties because over here, they suck and the same goes for pubs.
i think it's because my idea of a fun night out is hanging out with people i like, listening to good music, talking to and having fun with people and just having a good time. however, pretty much everyone i know sees a night out as a way of showing off. the 'theme' of every single one of those nights out is who can get drunk fastest and who can vomit the most. the reason people go out is to get drunk, preferably before they arrive. it's all about showing off, not about having fun. over here in the netherlands teenagers like to drink so much that they often end up in a coma. literally. an old classmate of mine ended up with alcohol poisoning from drinking too much when she was 14, she had to go to the hospital. she thought it was awesome. if you ask me, that's insane! look, i'm fine with people drinking alcohol, even though i don't drink alcohol myself, but drinking with getting alcohol poisoning as a goal, as a theme for the night is too much for me. i just don't get it. i don't care if someone gets drunk, i get it, it can be fun. but there's a difference between getting drunk because it's fun and getting drunk because you want to get alcohol poisoning because you think it will make you popular.

i sometimes feel like i'm 'missing out' on something, because i don't go out. ever. but i've got to say, i'm glad i'm not a part of it. but just a nice house party or an evening at the pub with nice people would be nice. just being able to talk to people, listen to some good music, spend time with nice people. that sounds great to me.

That happens here a lot.  I have one almost-friend who always wants me to go out with her, and I always say no because I've been out with her before and it was clubs.  I hate going to clubs, too.  I hate that there is nowhere to sit down, you can't hear what you're talking about with the person next to you and that most people there assume everyone is single and therefore harrasses you even when you're stood next to your partner. 

You're from the UK, right?  If you ever find yourself up in the North West, I would be happy to show you some of our better pubs (one in particular which stays open into the early hours, which is great) and actually have an evening that did not include clubs!

I live in UK, yeah, in Surrey, but I'm from Finland... It's much more of a rock/metal area really, especially my hometown, where they have a rock club, metal club, reggae club, various rock themed pubs and a cocktail bar where the bartenders wear studs and piercings and make cocktails called Rammstein (which includes a fire show!) 

But yeah, from what I have understood, there are great rock places around, I just happen to live in the wrong area. London is fairly close, but last trains home leave about 1-ish and I have no friends within London public transport I could sleep over... Or, well, one aquitance might just about be good enough friend now, even though she's more my boyfriends friend... Hmmm...

House party!!!!!

I love house parties, with my group of friends they're normally quite close, you know, no more than 30-40 people, and not loud and offensive, we drink, we get drunk, we make fools of ourselves, but we have a lot of fun doing it.
As for a night out at the pub (aside from the money thing) I don't enjoy it, I mean I'll go to the pub for a few drinks with friends, but we won't be there more than an hour or so because of the atmosphere.

And when we do go clubbing, I enjoy it, but I hate it. Like Lucy mentioned, we have pre-drinks before going to town because the prices are ridiculous ($7 for a pint?!?!?!) but we're normally sensible, we sometimes start drinking round 6pm, and drink for 4 or 5 hours before getting the train into town, whereas some people will knock back as many drinks in the hour before the train, and more often than not they can barely stand. We drink to get that buzz before hitting the clubs. what I hate about the clubs (Aside from the fact that I cant dance for shit xD) is the music, it's the same in every club. That and occasionally someone tries to cause trouble with someone in our group, or someone in our group goes a little too far with the drinks, and someone has to look after them until the bus home, and looking after a too drunk friend often puts a major damper on everyones night.

DEFINITELY depends on location location location and who's there. like i'll take a small house party with 10 really close friends anyday over a bar...BUT i'm not a huge fan of excessively large parties. they tend to wear me out...on the other hand there's a dueling piano bar walking distance from my house that i absofuckinglutely adore...so i guess it's kind of a toss up. i think it's more about the people than the where...

I live in the middle of no where...and in no where there are two bars....one is coverd in cubs(baseball team) decor the other while nice is just as red neck...I can hang with the red neck but I almost always end up in a fight...so this is a no good choice...and if I sing jane says they all think I am crazy...you know they do that sing to the tape thing with a mic...I just belt it out and leave...this is fun but gets you a not nice name in town...
On the other hand if I stay home this also never goes as I plan...you know a small get together in my music room...there always has to be drama...and I do not play everyones favorite country tune cause I don't know them...but I do have a cowboy hat...
So I vote me,wine and my piano...because we rarely fight and we always talk so nice,and if I hit a bad note only I or the piano know....sorry I did not mean to bug in, I just feel this topic is near and dear to my heart...I am soooo far from my Beloved Chicago...Blessings...BAXT

I found an awesome one recently, they played tons of 90's jams like You're All I Need by Method Man/Mary J Blige and Can I Get a by Jay-Z  hell all they need is Freak Like Me by Adina Howard.

Pub!!

House parties are ace when they go well, but there's always the risk that they'll be shitty and boring and full of people you don't like, whereas at the pub you can come in on your own and everybody knows you and there's no stress or whatever. Also, when you're at the pub, you can get hot people to walk you home, during which time you can decide whether to get with them or not - at house parties I find this happens too fast and without enough thought putting into it.

Oh, thank god, I was beginning to think no one would post about House Party.

I like nice quiet drinks and music and conversation type house parties, but lately I've been quite into pubs/nice little cocktail bars. I despise clubs, though. I don't like the music/being surrounded by wasted people, as I don't really dance and like to be able to talk to people when I go out.
