well i just got myself all the tickets. soooo assuming visa-gods won't fuck me over, i'm in. and i'm also going to be in boston from oct 27th-30th and got cabaret tickets for the 27th and 29th late show, and lnfc on the 27th.
could anyone help an ignorant austrian out with the cheapest way to get from nyc to boston and back? i checked amtrak which seems to be alrightish, but maybe there's cheaper options that i'm not aware of :)
or maybe i could join some of you in the trip if you're going alone?

(i'm holding myself back on smileys right now, because otherwise this post would be all like :D  ;D :headbang: OMG!! )

edit: i forgot. sorry to be asking all that many questions with only my 3rd post, and i'm totally checking things myself as well but i figured you people know a lot more than the internet could give me, so i'll ask here as well: does anyone have info on (cheap) rooms/lodging in boston and nyc? i'm arriving in nyc the 25th, and will probably try to find a couchsurfing host for the first 2 nights there, but if anyone would like to share a room in boston or especially after the halloween-show in nyc, maybe you'd like to hit me up and we could look for a cheap room together? (i'm 19, female, travelling alone and i'm more scared of you than you are of me.)
and if anyone has advise on cheap rooms in boston (or if you have a couch, or a bathtub really, for me to sleep on/in for a few days) i'd be forever grateful and get you drinks and bring awesomechocolate.
sorry to be such a nuisance straight away  :-\

I've heard you can get cheap fares on BoltBus depending on when you go.

Got my ticket, yay. Boo for convenience charges that cost more than 1/3 of the ticket price.

Btw, I'm presuming the $5 extra VIP ticket was for the balcony?

I was going to say BoltBus, too. Should be under $30 each way. http://boltbus.com MUCH cheaper than amtrak. I've never taken MegaBus, personally, so I can't compare the two.

i thought the $5 extra VIP ticket was to get in early?
i.e. cut the line?

i didn't go for it

btw, the Lucky Star (my preference) and
Fung Wah chinatown buses are the cheapest
way
    boston <-> nyc.
Lucky Star usually has wi-fi.
they both offer the first few tickets on-line at discount
rates like bolt and mega.

posted over in the halloween 2010 thread
(which you might also keep an eye on,
if you're coming to the nyc show!!!)
got my d.dolls halloween nyc tickets!
numbers 40 and 41
(as expected standing room only)

my aunt is coming with!!!
her first d.dolls concert

The time I had a VIP pass for Irving (I freelance as a music journalist), I was just ushered through the crowd to the balcony. I don't know if buying a VIP ticket is any different, so I was curious.

And definitely don't take the Chinatown buses:

yay thanks so much everyone!
boltbus looks nice. i didn't realise you had megabus in the us as well :) i've travelled with them in the uk and it was terrible. but then again, it was cheap, and it's a different continent.. i'll check out all those different fares, will see if they actually have those 1$ fares? that IS definitely much cheaper than amtrak.

Got my tickets for NYC! Woohooo!

And I second the people who are suggesting boltbus - https://www.boltbus.com/  - the further in advance you book, the cheaper the fares are - I've done NYC to Boston for like $13. They max out around $25, so it's a pretty good deal, regardless. I take them between NYC and DC about once a month, and it's pretty much always a pleasant ride.

I thought the same.
Got my tickets! Need to print them out. I was surprised there was no Will Call option for U.S. residents. That's usually my first choice on ticket options. That way I can't lose them. (Not that it keeps me out of trouble, as evidenced by my trip to see Cabaret where I went the night AFTER the one I had tickets for. Turned out okay in the end.)

And definitely don't take the Chinatown buses:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fung_Wah_Bus_Transportation

which is one reason i take Lucky Star,
a better safety record.
they are also the underdog in this market,
while providing better service.

http://www.luckystarbus.com/

if money isn't an issue,
i advise Amtrak's Aclea
http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer/AM_Route_C/1241245664867/1237405732511
it's amanda's first choice

investigate your transit options,
and do what fits you
