Then there is MC Chris that raps about starwars and other misc shit.

Also MF Doom is pretty rad, he has some crazy in the head issues and you never see his face but his raps are sick.

Oooh, now this is where it gets to be a very long post. Will try and tag explicit lyrics in the songs I link to but make no guarantees :D.

Not complete by -any- standard, I have a huge amount of vinyl and there's songs I can think of right now by people like Rakim and Royce da 5'9" that should be on this list, but I'm done for now.

Edit: Better, that fixed the formatting.

The first rap song I ever heard, and like most people, I didn't realize it was rap....

It's got all the elements:
essentially spoken-word over a simple rythmic instrumental track
drugs and alcohol
violence and misogyny (not much of the latter)
social/political commentary

Atmosphere (I like his older stuff)
Buck 65 (I haven't listened to him in awhile)
The Fugees
Mos Def
Jurassic 5
The Pharcyde
Dragonfli Empire

There's more but I'm too lazy to name 'em.

Ice-T, Public Enemy, early Jay-Z, Wu Tang, NWA, Afrika Bambaattaa, Sugarhill Gang and...

Outkast, who came out of the gates swinging and let two albums fly of what I thought would be the future of rap music. Then they just fizzled out and now we have the current breed of shit that bores me to tears. I was hoping that "Bombs Over Baghdad" was going to light a bigger spark in rap music. To me that is one of the most perfect tracks ever made in Rap. Nothing like it.

Missy Elliot kicks my ass, but even she has become a little stale these days.

Ludacris and Busta Rhymes both had some great stuff to start off with, but have become cheap pale imposters of themselves as of late.

Don't forget CB-4 bitches!!! ;)
