Miscellaneous Ephemera > Scream Of Consciousness

Was developed consciousness in humans a mistake?

Marconabe:
Its seems as though our animal instincts and needs scream to a different tune than our reasoning and ilogical\logical thought. As humans we need nature to survive but our brains keep creating cities and advanced technology. It feels as though human beings are an absurd equation. Like we all walk about, trying so hard to make sence of these two different sides of ourselves that are both undeniably present, that we both identify with. But that constantly contradict one another.

The Angel Raliel:
no but we have intellectually evolved much quicker than we have in many other ways which has led to all sorts of problems
our capacity for symbolic thought is what is key to the problem...we can no longer easily access direct thought (everything is filtered through a complex symbol system

A related question:

Is technological intelligence a species survival strategy?

More than just symbolic thought.

Discuss?

The Angel Raliel:
hmm how do you mean technological intelligence? tool use is a direct result of being able to plan and imagine outcomes to solve problems

but if you mean the development of artificial intelligence....well we really need to get there first before we really know how it affects us

Might not quite be (sentient) artificial intelligence yet, but we have at least reached spambots starting vaguely intelligent threads that prompt proper discussions.
