personally, i'd be more attracted to a forum if i went on, saw a birthday thread for me and discovered it was what these threads have been lately rather than going on and finding a saccahrin sweet thread of people whom i didn't know wishing someone they didn't know (me!) a birthday.
Oh noooo....  Far more welcoming to log in and find a bunch of
assholes whom I don't know bitching about pointless threads and
seeing who can create more pointless argument in my birthday
thread.  It might be different if it were a "birthday 'bot" spitting
out a thread for every single person, but that's not the case.

Seriously, would it kill you (and you should know who "you" are)
to just stay away from threads to which you can't make a positive
contribution?

eh, Twilight?

Yes it is, However will I carry on when I can contribute nothing else but that?

Hopefully I will find a way.

Maybe I should go on a sabbatical, do some deep thinking about my inner self.
Then maybe I will be able to get up to par on shadowbox rhetoric.
I will be able to contribute something that lives up to everyones lofty standards.
Then I will be worth my weight in gold on the shadowbox.

I shall set forth on this journey come dawn.
When I return, it will all come full circle and everything will be in its right place.

oh, i don't care about contributing to the shadowbox, because i contribute nothing.

i meant your general consumption of media in spare, personal time.

but really, it's already gold on this box, since that's the general stream of thought here, anyway. therefore stay, my friend. you already fit right in. and no, i'm not being insulting at all. that's just a roundabout way of saying most shit on youtube is garbage.

Len, you want the Box to be what you think it should be, not a product of the cumulative personalities on this board. It was the Box before you ever opened your mouth; if that's not good enough for you, then it's you who has a problem, not us. If, when you don't get your way because 99% of the population here thinks you're an insufferable fool, you keep pushing, it's not that we're assholes--it's that you're hard-headed. I don't give a good goddam how nice you try to be; you're just the same as anyone who won't let things be, regardless of the way in which you approach the situation.

Now shut the fuck up.

i had expected to find only comments from the grinches here

a pleasant surprise to find comments from many others

You don't think that telling people to "change the name of the thread" to be "more creative" and suggesting that peoples post be removed or modified to fit the fucking topic and otherwise trying to change the ENTIRE board dynamic, to suit HIMSELF, is a liiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit much?

i've only suggested this a few times,
for reasons that remain valid to me

in general, i like thread evolution/drift/turns,
but not thread hijackings, especially in threads like

  • the few game threads that stop working for their intended purpose
if turned into yet another of the 1,000's of discussion threads
not hijack them ...[/b]

Every thread that has ever existed on this forum has been derailed, or "hijacked" as you say at one time or another.  If the thread is solid, it will survive and will continue functioning according to its intended purpose.  The one I am closest to is the Poems Thread.  Every so often, someone offers a bit of commentary or even chit-chat, after which another poem is presented.  You can look at it as taking a break, if you will.  Say you're watching a movie at home and you put it on "pause" and say "I gotta go pee, and then let's go out for a smoke", and you do that, stretch your legs a bit, perhaps you'll talk about the time last summer you watched "Cleopatra" and cracked jokes all the way through it, and then you saunter back and settle in and push "play".

See?  It's organic.  It's natural.  That's the way this thing works.

You're insufferable when you've just woken up.

I've been here too long and my secrets are revealed!
I was woken up by a call.  That makes me get 10x more grouchy.
