brigading for the dolls winter tour
« on: October 19, 2007, 02:01:55 AM »

just because it gotta be started.

my plan is to make this tour super awesome but also DIY.
we're not going to bring a brigade ringleader on the tour itself but we ARE going to get someone on the ground to organize lists of performers. as soon as the dates are locked, we'll roll and i'll post about it. i'd love to bring everything together with a theme if possible....

Awesome... I have already started making costumes and props........ if things all go as planned, I will have 3 completely different outfits and things to play with............ I hope the theme works with what I am making...if not, I'll do some adjustments !!!!!

Michigan?

If there is a Michigan date I would love to do it.

So...I really can't say until the dates are announced.

hey let's start brainstorming themes...

how about the Sumerian myth of the Goddess Innana-Ishtar's descent into the underworld.  Or Hades/Persephone, you know whatever.  It is winter, after all, the dark time.

I'm probably going to be the grim reaper.  I might give out fortunes vaguely surrounding a person's death.  like "I'll see you soon."  or  "You will live a long life; do some good with it."  stuff like that.

Just got my new camera...so I think photography wins the cage match between it and brigading.

If anyone's planning anything for Toronto, I'm in. Canadialand represent.

I plan on drawing quick portraits for people all night :), seeing as art is...well...my only fun filled skill.  I'll probably draw a mustache on too.

I'll be in Philly and NYC.

If a theme is agreed upon, I'll definitely make a costume in line with it.

:-\ No Texas dates? If there were some shows within, oh, four hours of San Antonio I would, but it doesn't seem you guys are coming anywhere near me.

Granted, we did fly to Boston that one time, but I don't think the chances of that happening again are very good.

I am interested in brigading at the Philadelphia show.

I'd be nearly content playing the ukulele in the ladies' room, but the only song that I know fairly well so far is Ben Fold's version of Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit." I am not sure how well received that particular song would be.

Hi Jordana!!!

okay paco,
basically it would be me and my hooper poi circus friend sean.
we would both need some help.

I would love to go to Baltimore and Philly.
but i have no car and no place to sleep there.

if i somehow got to Baltimore, could someone give me a place to sleep that night and then a ride over to philly and then a place to sleep that night and then a ride to boston?

so if anyone has these things for two hoopers, we'd be very happy.

a ride for 2 from balt-->philly
a ride for 2 from philly--> boston.
a couch or floor to sleep on for 2 in balt
a couch of floor to sleep on for 2 in philly.

i have places to stay and transportation once arriving in boston.

If my roommate's okay with it, some people can stay at my house.  This is NOT an open invitation.  Ask me off the board.

Tash, I can give you a ride from Baltimore to Philly (with your friend and hoops), but not from Philly to Boston.

Gin, I'm not going to try to convince you to do anything you don't want to do, but I am going to say this.  Remember why you did it in the first place.  If that's changed, and I hope it has after all this time, what new truths can you share with us by performing again?

it's not that I dont want to Brigade, Paco...I do, I just don't feel like I have the right inspirations anymore to come up with brilliant truths.  Plus, with the way the Brigade got screwed over with True Colors and the Fringe...it's hard to have faith that this is all going to be fine and dandy.

I see, but then again, the Brigade got screwed over at True Colors and the Fringe because they were not this situation we have here, where the Dresden Dolls are in charge. TC and EF Brigades got screwed because the producers didn't know what the Brigade was supposed to be doing.

As for the inspirations, I hear you.  I hear you.

I would really love to join the brigade. I was supposed to last tour. I am up for pretty much anything. I have a working sewing machine and maddening creative mind. I live in Ct, and was actually already planning on attending the Boston show.
Yay!  You're here!!

Yes! You bet your southern can!

I have some ideas floating around in my head. But I am not sure if a theme has been set yet? Paco, I really love your grim reaper idea. You're costumes have always been a great inspiration.

What a great night, excluding the puking detail.

at the EF, the producers got sold on what the Brigade was by their excellence
that is, they came around through Brigade education
from what i've heard from Liz and others

definitely better for the DD to be in charge

I'd love to bring back my Art Of The Mix that I did in San Francisco.  And yes, there is also statuing...but I'd want to take it to a new level of expression, of course.

The last year for me has been quite the downer.  I'm trying to find something that moves me.  I have a little time, I think.

hey let's start brainstorming themes...

how about the Sumerian myth of the Goddess Innana-Ishtar's descent into the underworld.

I have been thinking about something with lots of tulle and a broken parasol/umbrella with pieces of my skirt attached to the ends of the umbrella. i was thinking about bubbles too, but i am not sure how i am tieing it all together. some suggestions would be lovely. I am not familiar with that myth, could you tell me more?

I'm still brainstorming. I'm also thinking about have a tea set maybe on a table when I might be sitting drinking tea and giving out little gifts int he sugar or cream holder when someone sits down with me, or I could be hold a tray with it.

I also love your avatar. I used to watch that show every time it was on, I had a very big crush on that particular fellow.

This is great timing for me...... I have 3 surgeries scheduled in the near future, so instead of thinking about them, I am SEWING LIKE A CRAZED LUNATIC !!!!!  I plan on having a different costume and (set of) props for each show......... haven't slept in weeks !  It is going to be well worth it, though.  I can't wait.

Hey, I'm going to the Durham, NC and Norfolk, VA shows and I'd like to help with the Brigade.  At the Raleigh show I helped brigade by painting things on people's faces. (I also painted one of the paintings on stage for The Red Paintings.) I dressed up, set up a little table, and painted things like hearts, moons, stars, flowers, etc. on people's faces (for free of course - some people actually wanted to pay me. :o ). It turned out to be REALLY popular.  I couldn't even keep up with all the people wanting little hearts and stuff!  I think I even made someone into a panda bear.  I would LOVE to do something like that again if I could.  My sister will be with me at the NORVA show, and she'd be my assistant there.  She's actually very artistic herself.

Any thoughts?  Where to organize? Etc?

THANKS!  :)

I love reading everyone's ideas...so many variations of art.

Myself and about 5 other friends will be brigading at the St. Louis, MO show.  We're going to brigade as the lollipop guild.  Probably wear some crazy combination of cancan meets ballet.  We're going to hand out various types of suckers to the crowd.  Might have people sing a bar of their favorite Dolls song to earn a sucker.  I'm so excited I can barely stand it.

Hey, I remember you. I was the tall guy with the big camera if you remember. I have some pics if you want them. Anyway, I say go for it. You seemed to be quite the hit. :) You might need to bring a folding table & chair but, beyond that, you should be ready to go. Good luck!

If you plan on making it to the UK, then i am definitely up for this.... I might even try saving up some air fare

Hello, I'm new here.... am interested in brigading for the winter tour, or at the very least making it over from the UK. I've never seen the dresden dolls live and would love to meet other UK fans planning to fly to the states.

I am super excited about this....

I have been brainstorming non-stop.

Picture this....a very small table.... with layered tulle tablecloth....tea set, girl sitting facing outwards drinking tea quietly in dollish-tea party-dress with hat-because you need hats at a tea party-with a chair across from her. I was thinking about having 3 chairs one might have a stuffed animal/doll in it. She may seem like she is talking to herself. Inviting people to join..... If someone sits down she will offer tea, and or maybe a trinket hidden in the sugar tea cup. I was also thinking of putting small notes under the cups on the table. Who ever comes for tea gets a little message, random inspirational quote-lyric, fortune-thingie.

I have been trying to consider how cold it will be in December..-layers are key!-..though the weather has been fickle for awhile, and I remember last winter took awhile to actually get truly cold till the end of the season. When I saw the Dolls at the Orpheum Theatre in April 2005-was it? or 2006? It was decently warmish out and a lot of the brigaders were outside. I believe a picnic was involved, but I was late to the show due to getting lost in Boston like I've never been lost before.

Any input-output? :)

Who ever comes for tea gets a little message, random inspirational quote-lyric, fortune-thingie.

ladies wear gloves to tea.  maybe lace?

you could put the messages inside fortune cookies ...

I am super excited about this....

I have been brainstorming non-stop.

You know I'll be visiting you to get some tea and a fortune-thingie...

How fun it must be to live in/around the east coast cities.  I haven't heard much from people in the midwest in regards to brigading...where are you???

BTW...I LOVE the tea party idea!!!

the only way i know of succsesfully doing so is actually making the cookies yourself...im sure there's a recipe somewhere!

you can order them on the internet

but you can also find recipes
they aren't that hard to make,
and cheaper to do so
the hardest part is usually doing up the
paper strips with the fortunes on them

i suggest a trial run soon,
just so you won't be tryin' new bakin'
at the last minute

i've been away so long... first post on this new board and, well golly, first post in a long long time.  this is Caitlin Rose, signing back on to say that captain teapot misses her freaks.  except now i'm Miss Jacqueline Box, revolutionary hoop-erstar (at least for this tour, methinks).  since i'm all the way in arizona, it's hard for me to hit up too many of these dates, but i think i'm going to bust my butt to get to atlanta.  something grand will happen, whether it be hooping or just generally acting like a freak.  still formulating a concrete idea...

i'd like to meet the new family in this here parts.  i've been gone so very long, i'm new all over again.  say hello!  i'd love to know you!
