How is it that you hear of these massive bits of wikiabuse, yet whenever I try to correct some of these myself, I get sent a nasty-gram from wiki that "my changes were removed for being abusive"?

It really makes you wonder sometimes.

the best things to do with wiki-abuse on en.wikipedia.org for a n00bie is either to:
- revert it in total
- comment on the Discussion page for the article
- add original or corrective material,
well written,
copiously cited from "reliable sources " (understand what this measn in wiki-speak),
that follows the guidelines over there (a book+ worth)
- move on, doing nothing

the set of cultures over there is quite different
from anything else I have encountered,

and even changes from niche to niche

sounds like you were trying to do the right thing,
and an edit war was starting, that might have need an
Admin to step in and limit edits to the page

and that the person who reverted was abusing WP.

one thing to do, is come back the next day and fix it again.
the abusers often have limited attention spans

but i haven't reviewed it
