sbox update to SMF 1.1.13
« on: May 29, 2011, 05:55:38 AM »

just noticed that our beloved sbox has been updated to
SMF 1.1.13

you all might hold off on complaints and suggestions,
until the admins formally announced it,
unless they are getting in your way,
that is, a serious problem or bug
(updates take some time and tweaking)

but pointing out new features and changes here
seems fine to me

looks great so far,
though there is more exploration and reading to do

i LUV that the News items are up-to-date again,
the fade out/in News box near the top of the HOME page,
and
ADORE the Go Up and Go Down buttons!

The first change was fine with me. Just now it changed even more, and I'm not really diggin it... My guess is that everyone is still working on it behind the scenes, and will finetune it?

your guess is right.

i'm a little sad that the IGNORE box is gone,
but it's probably for the best.

I also wish the new News Box had "Next/Up" and "Previous/Down" buttons,
so you could scroll though all the news.

EDIT: The newNews Box just went away.
The sbox is just back to having it's News in the old place.
Still wish I could see them all!

A quick tour through some of the screen layouts SMF has,
as the Admins were tweaking things just now.  ; - }

didn't even notice a change.

although i would love an ignore button.  would work well for spams when they get like they get.

I don't actively dislike any of the changes, and I quite like the oh-so-subtle
change of background-shade between posts....

Not even noticed the upgrade. I usually lock my board before upgrading or installing anything. And SMF upgrade is so smooth that I never really needed any tweak after upgrading.

I just hope they were able to install an anti-bot register plugin.

I hope that the SMF update will cut back on the spam,
which means less irritation for all sboxers,
as well as less spam swatting for the admins and mods.
(One could go over to the SMF web sight, and see what the
changes are between the two versions).

The SMF IGNORE button that the sbox had for a bit,
left the post 'frame' there,  just blanking the content,
with an UNIGNORE button to put things back as they were.

I didn't have enough time to do the research to see if it was just
an ignore this post button, or
an ignore all of a user's posts button.

just the upgrade and the common anti-bot pluggins wont help the spam surge. the only way I was able to solve it was installing a plugin that makes the registration available only after answering a question like "two plus 2 is =". that blocked them from subscribing to my board.

cheers!

Which new registrants should see, now. According to the logs I've been watching, the bots are smashing up against my rocks like stupid sailors to a siren's song.

Oh, wait......

Since most of the bots that actually post are from Asia, doesn't cheering their failure make us racist?  :uglystupid2:

what Cee illustrated!

not racist, just evolution in action

(the question to get over the troll's bridge will hold them for a bit)

(I've seen a few spams since the upgrade,
 that the mods swatted,
 they might have registered pre-upgrade)
