UPDATE 6/21: A list of winners/RSVPs can now be found HERE. If you see your name on the list, check your GetGlue account for directions and let us know ASAP if you can come, or someone will be picked in your place. If you don't see your name on the list, don't give up hope, as long as you entered we might pick you in place of someone who can't make it!

Here's the deal...
This show is going to be teeny-tiny at a secret location and will be 100% FREE (there will be merch though in case you wanna buy something for yourself). We'll be letting you know EXACTLY where it'll be just a few days before (so we don't have no people tryin' to crash the party, of course). The show will be 21+ and there will be a guestlist at the door. Anyone not on the list, doesn't get in.

"So how do I get in?"

Glad you asked:
* Head over to AFP's profile on GetGlue. You can find it right here: http://getglue.com/recording_artists/amanda_palmer
     - Don't have a GetGlue profile, yet? It takes about 20 seconds and you can do so at http://getglue.com/signup (they also have an app for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, Blackberry, and Android and you can sign up there)
* "Check-in" and tell us your favorite AFP-related concert memory, starting with something along the lines of I really want to see Amanda on tour this summer http://bit.ly/AFPtour or My favorite AFP-concert memory was...
     - Feel free to get creative on how you say that you want to see her, just make sure to include a link to her tour page!
     - If you haven't ever seen Amanda live, post a link to your favorite live YouTube or Vimeo clip and tell us why you're excited to see her
     - Bonus points for cross-posting to Twitter and Facebook, and for clicking "Favorite" on AFP (and other AFP-related stuff like The Dolls, Evelyn Evelyn, 8in8, etc)

And that's it. We'll be going through and contacting winners and getting e-mail addresses so that we can get your name for the guestlist, and know where to tell you the location of the show!

Any questions? Just ask here. We'll post everywhere once the guestlist is full.
PLEASE don't enter if you aren't serious about going or aren't 21+ (but do still feel free to signup for GetGlue - we'll hopefully be doing more cool stuff with them, soon).

Thanks for being so patient, folks...and good luck!

VERY excited about this but what is the deadline for the check-in? And does each winner get one "ticket"?

Thanks!

Wer're seeing such a great response on this so far - we'll be notifying winners within the next few days and probably have everyone chosen by Sunday the 19th. We'll post here when everyone's been notified and accounted for...since this is gonna be such a small show, we wanna make sure that everyone who wins can definitely go, and everyone who wants to go has a chance.

Stanley Cup?
what's that?
is the cup a rock-n-roll award?

; - }  I suspect if Vancouver wants to have an all of Amanda's-expenses-paid concert out there,
she might find the time.

If one is selected, is it good for one plus one guest?  Boy writing that really brought back memories.   :headbang:

- There are busses which go right up Mass Ave towards it, and stop within a 5 minute walk from where the shindig's going to take place.
- The show is scheduled from 7pm 'till between 11 and midnight.

When/how will you be notifying the winners?

Everyone will be contacted via GetGlue and told a specific email address to write to with their name as it appears on their ID (so that we can e-mail the location of the gig / check them in at the show / make sure everyone's 21+)...I'll also post a "roll-call" here if we have any people who aren't responding to GetGlue messages.

Poking in before I get some sleep with an important update: Winners have been selected thanks to Hayley swooping in to help me out at the last minute, but due to an emergency that put me away from a computer for all of today, not everyone will be notified by tonight (as originally planned). I'll make sure and get everyone situated first thing in the morning (Monday 6/20), and post here to let you know when that's set so you can check your GetGlue*...

Also, if you DON'T win, hang tight and keep your fingers crossed - anyone who doesn't respond to us with their name for the guestlist/confirmation that they're 21+ will forfeit their ticket and we'll go down the list to "runners up" and see who can go.

Thank you all for being patient, understanding, and writing some incredible entries.

* Not that you should have to be told to, since it's an awesome site and you should use it, anyway.

if some of you cooks and gourmans don't luck out,
why don't you organize a punk cabaret pot-luck feast
somewhere in Boston that night.

and maybe you'll luck into a webcast!

oh now i get it, because I helped picked winners I can have some of Sean's food. ha. ha.

I'll have you know that Team AFP cannot be bought. ;)
...well, I mean, when it comes to our official AFP duties, but with "prostitution" anything goes with Sean...

There really are tons and tons of awesome stories, if you have some time you guys should read through them. It's kind of like going to a shelter, all the animals are cute and you don't know which one to pick because you want to take them all home - the puppies who don't know what it's like to play in a yard and even the older dogs who had a taste of freedom and want it back (ie: people who've never been to a show and those that have been to a million). Good luck guys.

From what Amanda said in announcing these small shows, the camera policy is going to be limited (compared to her usual open photo/recording policy) - Amanda doesn't want the songs recorded and circulated around the 'net just yet (because she's trying out new material) so a webcast is unlikely... however, odds are that Amanda will archive these shows herself and I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into something some day... y'never know.

well, since there is no webcast,
you can each show the others your favorites

or find other ways to share life with one another

Emails are still being sent because of the people who decline/can't make the show for W/E reasons that may have come up

(As I just declined due to having to work the catering event for the MS Bikathon in buzzards Bay at the mass maritime academy, I'm one of the Chefs )

Did people who have never been to a concert have less of a chance? Because I've never been but not because I didn't want to but because I can't afford to. I've actually never been to any concert ever (except some classical music concerts when I was little with my parents--I'm such a nerd I know).

I'm a grad student now and I just can't afford to go so I thought this might be the perfect opportunity for me to actually be able to see Amanda Palmer who I've loved and admired for years and years and years now. But I promise to buy merchandise if I get to go. Does that help?

Man I'm so bummed I didn't get chosen!  :'( Amanda is my idol. Maybe next time I guess right?

Also, if you DON'T win, hang tight and keep your fingers crossed - anyone who doesn't respond to us with their name for the guestlist/confirmation that they're 21+ will forfeit their ticket and we'll go down the list to "runners up" and see who can go.

just to remind you all that there is still some hope!

I suspect this didn't matter,
but I can't speak for the judges.

Amanda and her team,
love creative rule breaking.
So if you had a wiz-bang entry
on what you wish your favorite concert memory
had been, or some such,
you might have actually had more chance.

i have posted here only a few times in the past, and under a different username but i read the entries now and then. i just had to post now though because OH MY GOD i got picked to attend the show. i am so fucking excited; i never win anything. the problem is that i live in seattle. i am feeling spontaneous enough to buy a plane ticket for the weekend but i don't think i could swing a hotel on top of that. is there anyone else going that might let me crash on their couch for a night or two? maybe? if you'd even consider you can PM me and i can tell you a little more about myself...
i will decide for sure if i can make it before the end of the day. i don't want to hold up the spot for someone that can definitely go.

It certainly didn't work against you, and that's why I gave people an option to enter even if they hadn't seen Amanda live before. There were some awesome entries from people who hadn't seen AFP before and I'm hoping at least a few of them now get a chance (and love it). I will admit that when it came down to deciding between some close-calls, the more actively someone was using GetGlue the more points that earned 'em towards a win.

Congrats, and thank you for coming here to try and make plans (especially so you can let the ticket go if you can't come, that's noble). I'll tell you this: If you can get out to the show, it will be worth it -- good luck finding a crash space.

Sean, two sets of questions:

Food-related:

Are you an adventurous eater?
Do you like veggies, bread, and eggs?
How do you feel about Indian/Thai/Malaysian food?
On a spiciness scale 1-10, what can you handle?

Hayley, I know you well enough that you'll just have to eat what I serve.  And drink water afterward.

Getglue-related:

I sort of use it whenever there's an AFP promotion around it, but usually find no other reason to go on.  What is so awesome about it, again?  It hasn't given me particularly interesting or compelling predictions of movies or music or shows I would like (Not more than pandora or amazon, at least).  I get that there are other reasons for doing promotions... but what is the official line about how it's awesome, at least?

I am startled but very grateful to have won. No more wussing out and not going to show for fear of being "too old" to go.

I'm coming down from Montreal (hopefully with wife if a ticket somehow opens up or I can buy one, PM sent and SOS relayed to appropriate persons) and this will be a road trip I won't soon forget!

Thank you to all those involved. Should I wear my Canadiens jersey or will you people hurt me if I do?

Now get off my lawn, you dirty kids!

i am beyond excited & grateful to hear that i won, and can't wait to see a few familiar faces and a whole lot of new ones!

as for food...should we bring something?  i know the venue's kind of super secret but also that it will be teeny tiny and intimate...i will happily make some delicious vegetarian/vegan food if it won't be cumbersome...

and corrie, i'm not one for knowing anything about flights, HOWEVER, are you on couchsurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.org/)?  i more than likely cannot help out with hosting (but will still check with the roommate & her plans), but there's a fairly good-sized community of CS'ers here that i'm sure would be able to help out - it certainly sounds like the show will be worth it!!

I'm no pro, and I was actually hesitant to start using it myself, but once I did start using it I found that I liked to use it occasionally. The stickers are pretty interesting... because you can order REAL stickers... which is unlike any other app that i know of that awards "stickers", "badges" etc. I don't use GetGlue to check into every and anything that I'm thinking about or for all the media I "consume", but I find that it's useful to find custom media recommendations.

For instance - I checked in to watching "Pushing Daisies" and "Dead Like Me" (both created, and at one time, written by Brian Fuller) and Get Glue recommended that I watch "Wonderfalls" which I didn't even realize existed until I talked to Sean and he asked me if GetGlue suggested it to me yet (and wouldn't you know, it did). "Wonderfalls" is another short lived but entertaining TV show Fuller created and produced. So besides the social networking feel of it - "oh look what my friends are watching" it has an actual use for suggesting other/similar shows, music, media etc. for you to check out if you so desire to use it that way.

I am a secret show attendee coming in from NY... just wondering if there's another who lives in Boston that would be willing to chat/lend a couch or something. Not sure how this adventure will play out since I am orig from Ohio, don't have any solid friends in Boston. I would be super grateful :) Let me know!

and maybe you'll luck into a webcast!

From what Amanda said in announcing these small shows, the camera policy is going to be limited (compared to her usual open photo/recording policy) - Amanda doesn't want the songs recorded and circulated around the 'net just yet (because she's trying out new material) so a webcast is unlikely... however, odds are that Amanda will archive these shows herself and I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into something some day... y'never know.

also reminder to everyone coming tonight,
and i'll remind yo' asses at the show: no
video. unusual i know. but the songs, they
are fragile.

this also means, NO Audio, NO Taping.
The songs are all in process,
and Amanda doesn't want them out until they are more finished!

Wanted to leave a note to team AFP that you have me listed twice I think on the confirmed list here.... I think Tym R and Timothy R are both me. just wanted to make sure I'm not double counted!

Tym aka Timothy aka Vampdaddy aka The Guy Who emails and Posts too much

that should account for another open spot yesss??  ;D

I think my reply email may have said my GetGlue name was jen_g.  Apparently it's Jen_Grue.  My bad.  Should I email again and correct it...?

Team Amanda was at Maxwell's with her yesterday.

Maxwell's is a great club, except they don't have wireless.
So the Team was mostly off the Internet.

You'll probably hear back Friday or early Saturday.

I keep frantically checking my email for info (I don't drive!  My bf is being sweet enough to drive me there, drop me off, go back to my house and play video games, then drive back to pick me up!), but alas none yet.  I think they're holding out so we don't get crashers, ya know?

Which is weird.  Soon as I won the ticket someone that didn't win told me the (possible?) location.

Does anyone have anyone's number who is organizing this little shindig? :) I'm coming down from Montreal but would like to come down with Mrs Tjg as a surprise. I am more than willing to buy a ticket (are there even any for sale, I don't know) but I just want to find a way to get her in there. :) If anyone can think of anyone I could contact (emailed Sean already but he is crazy busy, understandably), I would be very grateful. I am leaving around noon-1pm. :)

Thanks all!

Is there anyone in Boston that would be willing to give me a ride? I'd hate to get stuck out in Arlington after the T stops running. I'm coming from JP, but can take the T anywhere nearby for a ride.

For people taking public transportation:

-The Ts stop around 12, the buses usually stop around 12:30 to 1:30, check your own bus schedule or on googlemaps to be sure.

-Your best bet for going home (if you don't want to leave early) is to make friends with people going to your part of town and split a taxi, it's actually only a 20 minute drive from most of Boston.  Sean was nice enough to provide us with a taxi number, just program it into your phone so when you're massively drunken you don't have to punch it in.  :-)

if you safely want to get home via the MBTA,
and your destination is on:

* the bus routes, sean mentioned, leave by 12:15am

* red line, leave by 11:45pm

* green line, leave by 11:30pm

* orange or blue line, leave by 11:15pm

further than that, leave earlier

just as a heads up, without giving too much away...i know the #79 was mentioned as being accessible, however according to the mbta's website, it doesn't run on saturdays.  so it looks like #77 is the best bet and that coming from lechmere is not an option if you want to use public transportation.

Again, without giving too much away, I'm probably going to take the red to Davis and just bike the rest of the way there, and hopefully not get too drunk upon arrival. That is, unless somebody can give me a ride, for which I will exchange plenty of booze.

if you are quick at finding your way in unfamiliar territory:

* red line to porter, catch the 77 outbound bus there

* take bike to Alewife on red line.
take minuteman bike path the appropriate distance.
then surface streets.
the path has a decent map that can be found via google.

if you don't spaz,
either of these will save you 5 to 10 minutes.

Dear Amanda Palmer,

This I will say first:  I fucking respect you.  I respect that you do what you want, that you reinvent yourself, that you support up and coming artists, that I am slightly drunken right now because there was an open bar.

No matter what else, and there will be an else, remember that.

That being said, you will never, ever, be my dance party music.  Matt & Kim -- they are the type of band that I will dance out to, not quite knowing the lyrics, not quite caring.  They will be the band that I let loose and pump my hand into the air for.  You won't be the Amanda Palmer + synthesizer + Australian band music.

I care too much.  You will be my I'm broken up, I know all the words to "Astronaut" and "Have to Drive" and it is fucking poetry music.  You will be my, my heart is broken and my brain is broken and you are my solace music.  You will occasionally be I broke my bra dancing to "Guitar Hero" but the words still broke my heart  music;.

You are in good company.  Elliott Smith is somewhere next to you.

It's not your fault.  I am happy that you are happy, that happiness has taken the form of a synthesizer and a dance beat.

But the space you occupy in my brain and heart, it is much more, Amanda Palmer.  It is more than what you did tonight, the mythology that you occupy.  I am sorry for that burden and wish I could wash it clean.

And still I respect you for all that you do.

What a great night. Thanks to Hayley, Sean, Kate, and everyone else who made it work.
I actually really loved the new material. The songs were dancier but no less lyrically impressive. I was able to let loose and dance, and the amazing lyrics got me more into it. Also, just because you can dance to it doesn't mean the lyrics are less important. It's pretty unfair to declare an artist as being one type of artist. Opinions are one thing, but don't say an artist can never accoplish something. If someone doesn't like the new songs, that's fine, you can choose not to buy them, but it's unfair to confine the artist inside a previous style.
They being said, I loved it.

Was very drunk when I last posted and so stupidly forgot my thank yous -- Thank you Sean and Hayley, as well as Amanda for throwing a great party-- and most ridiculosly making it free.  I hope that everyone who was there either bought merch, or did what I did and just directly donated what they could.  If you didn't and you were at the show and are able to spare some cash, you should do so now, because thank yous are nice but money helps pay for Sean and Hayley and Amanda's tirelessness.

The first opener was freaking awesome.  I can't remember being that impressed by an opener since I saw Feist open for Bright Eyes.  Good shit.

And the crowd -- there is something utterly unique and beautiful about an Amanda Palmer show audience -- nothing else in my life is quite like it.

And still I respect you for all that you do.

this. *sigh* although i don't know the new songs, but this was how i felt about some other recent AP stuff. a lot of people can make good dance music. but i don't think anyone else can make amanda-palmer-deep-poetry-beauty-songs that almost are a religious experience. (which does not mean that i don't like the newer stuff. at all.)

I just wanted to join the chorus of thanks for last night. Great venue (clearly it will be missed by many), nice to watch Pope do his thing, new songs were great, and GOOD GRIEF can Super-Kate dance! 80's dance party was an extra bonus.

And Amanda if you read this -- thanks for the singing the Evelyn Evelyn deck. My 6-year old was so excited he invented an "elephant elephant" card game and made me play twice. Not quite sure what the rules were, so I lost -- but the smile on his face was worth it. Thanks!

Besides the fact that Amanda Palmer and her many comrades are awesome people, Amanda Palmer is an amazing dancer.  She can definately bring it.  Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to dance, sing, and celebrate with you, it was nothing but a pleasure. :)

thank you to everyone who came out to the show. I'd like to especially thank all of you who helped us out in one way or another - whether it was helping us bring the merch inside out of the rain or helping each other get directions, it was absolutely amazing to see everything come together.

it was also an absolute pleasure to meet you guys - at all of the shows, you're incredibly sweet and it's so satisfying to read all of your after-show reports, we're glad that you had fun.

As far as the music goes, these songs are in their infant stages, we'll see what happens with them, how they sound, how they make you feel etc. Music is a personal thing - an artist, a song, an album etc. can have such a deep personal and emotional connection or association to each and every person out there, so of course new music isn't going to be listened to the same objective way as someone who has no previous experience to an Amanda Palmer song or concert. All I can say is that no matter what, it's pretty exciting to see what direction these songs go. Now, if only I could get them out of my head....

Here's a nice shot of the inside of the garage with Casey's drawings that I found when looking up  Sarah Borello, who is so fucking talented.  Got chills on some of her songs, including this one.

I first heard Massachuseetts Avenue last Fall,
where it became the closing number of every night

Like i said before - the songs may not have official names yet, the set list was made up so that they knew which order to play the songs in and most likely referenced the working titles - so don't be surprised if they end up having names that are completely different.

The best part about Mass Ave is that it has changed every time amanda plays it. Each LNFC had different musicians guesting, and remember Zoe Boekbinder playing the kazoo on it last October at Amanda's webcast concert? such a fun song.

Nothing's "official" 'till they're out - which is going to be a while from now - but they do all have names. Call 'em "working titles" or what you will, but the band were referring to everything proper, in soundcheck and the studio. A will maybe mention that info in the new blog, coming...

Have I mentioned my heart feels like it's still at the show?  From the second I heard Sarah Borrello's VOICE, to jumping and dancing to Massachusetts Ave with Amanda, my heart flopped onto that stage and soaked up every second of it.  That space seems like such a total downer to lose, it's so AMAZING.

Will there be a video of Pope's upstairs piece springing up soon?  I didn't trust myself enough to go up and down those stairs without falling when sober, I certainly wasn't trying after a couple of drinks...  >>;
