I too couldn't care less for Amanda's latest offerings.

Perhaps it's just me, but I got the impression that her music was born out of her lifestyle. It seemed that the Dolls songs were written at a point in her life when she had time for introspection; To recognize the interplay between our common cultural references and her own heart-achingly human condition, and that's what made her lyrics so insightful and compelling. She had time to commune with the cardinal.

Ironically it seems that since branching out on her own that she's never alone for long enough to enjoy moments of introspection. If she's not touring she's in the studio for a prolific release schedule, if she's not in the studio she's hanging out with people, and even when she gets 5 mins alone she tweets about her hectic and eventful days to thousands of followers. And she's married. To me, Dresden Dolls was Amanda Palmer and Amanda Palmer is actually Amanda Palmer and Friends - I imagine that quite a few of her creative decisions are influenced by her social circle - Let's collaborate on a reggae/dance fusion song about hairy pussies for shits and giggles.

I'm probably totally wrong, but that's what I always imagined.

So hopefully Neil will get writers block, and the dinner parties will wane, and she'll look over the baby grand at the man whom she once loved, but now with whom lives a lie, with only the grandfather clock to punctuate the uncomfortable silence between them. And disgusted she'll turn away to the window, to the Minnesotan winter landscape, musing how it seems to have swallowed her in it's cold monochrome bleakness. And finally when all seems lost a flash of red will land on a dead, leafless branch and the cardinal will once again reignite her soul...

and we'll get a decent fucking album again  O0

So I'll continue to keep a watchful eye on AFP, in the hope that she'll eventually grow isolated and she'll share her well-formed scathingly insightful thoughts with us instead of just tweets.

Or oh oh a menopausal Amanda! That would be a great album - She's the one who leaves the dirty diapers in the trash all tied up just to make you jealous of the kids she had before you dried up

VG, so let me see if I read that right ... you'd prefer Amanda suffer so you get an album with deeper lyrics? Why not ruin your own life and just write your own album?

yes, that's basically the idea; it would be much more convenient if we could just continue to pay amanda to suffer. if our lives weren't miserable enough already we probably wouldn't need her to, which is why ruining our own isn't really an option at this point. :(

anyways:

even though my last post was not representative of this, i've honestly been coming to terms with this whole situation more lately. i think screaming about it in this thread probably helped a bit. my opinions are still basically the same, but i'm less angry. and i also recognize the fact that i'm lucky that amanda is so receptive and understanding of my verbal abuse, because i probably would not give a fuck about what was politically correct if this was someone's idea of an "intelligent discussion" about me. and i'm not saying that it's not an intelligent discussion or anything, just that i understand that it takes a lot to actually put that belief into action. i had stopped listening to her music all together for awhile, but of course it didn't last forever. i'm right back in it, but nothing recent. i have high hopes for the next album though, even despite the fact that i hate half of the things i've heard that are supposed to be on it.

and if it doesn't turn out the way i'd like it to i guess i'll just have to continue working out a productive and respectful way to convince amanda to release the '98 tape.

Because I'm a sociopath and y'all wouldn't get it  ;)
