How to embed video
« on: July 21, 2007, 04:26:10 PM »

Help me lentower...

...you are my only hope.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJR4pja78Fc" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJR4pja78Fc</a>

I put the URL between the brackets and put in the correct size, but all I get is this white box.  What am I doing wrong?

P.s. if anyone else knows, I would be forever in your debt.  Which is a nice way to say that I will never pay you back

gawd, i'm not sure i want to be anyone's "only hope"

there are others on the box here who understand this
just the overprecise pedantic-ness that computers need to do anything useful

each video has a URL that take you to a page that includes an embedded player for that video,
and an embed URL that is used by the video player, including the [flash ] BBC here on the new box

you used the former
for youtube, to transfer it to the later, just change the text "watch?v=" to "v/"

Code: [Select]
   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJR4pja78Fc
becomes
   http://www.youtube.com/v/VJR4pja78Fc
which gives us
  [flash=425,350]http://www.youtube.com/v/VJR4pja78Fc[/flash]

the second kind of URL can also be extracted from the embed text field
on the youtube web page the former displays, or via the menu button on the youtube player

and now for the video

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/VJR4pja78Fc" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/VJR4pja78Fc</a>

other sites use other text formats, but you can usually get the embed URL from the video's web page

i wish that this stuff was easier

i also wish that i was a better tech writer

[EDIT] I'm felling stupid.
i tried what you said before you, and it didn't work. only showed a blank white screen. tried again whit what you said and same thing... re-installed flash... same thing. phone rings. i go answer the phone. i took one minute on it. i came back and it was loaded. in other words, it took a hell out of time to load here. don't know why, since every embedded video loads automatically here. [/EDIT]

strange!
i see no video here.

i think my flash plug-in is screwed! i will re-install it

i have a number of rules of thumbs about these kind of glitches, two kinda apply here:

* be patient

* wait for it to be a problem at least twice

this may have been a problem out on the internet, and not what you did at all.
one of those temporary stoppage or slow downs
the video files are very very large

best -len

yup

we're talkin about how long a user waits, not how long it takes to move the data

as you may know, when the player starts the video,
most of the video hasn't been loaded yet
but as the data transfers faster then it is played
that's cool

unlike president ford

now i got confused... here it takes kind of a time to load the "PLAY" image, which will indeed load the video. it does not happens in other places. but never mind... i usually browser with Flash-Block, but i was on a fresh install in another partition, which i use for tests.

cheers!

TEST

Ice-T and Perry Ferrel doing a cover of the Sly and the Family Stone - Don't Call Me Whitey, Nigger

<a href="http://youtube.com/v/IEEHZdxkOfo" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://youtube.com/v/IEEHZdxkOfo</a>

Thanks Len.

What is up with the number 425,350? shouldnt that just come up automattically when you hit the flash button?

it says flash=200,200][/flash] when you hit it.

coz I'm never going to remember 425,350

I guess I can just reference this section if I ever feel like posting a video.

I'm trying to find a video from Janes Addiction - Gift

That was a damn fine movie but my only copy is on VHS and an old stoner friend of mine has it which means I'll most likely never see it again.

Here is a post from another forum that explains it better than I could:

Embedding Myspace Videos

When you upload a video to myspace you will receive a piece of code that should begin - <embed .....

For example, I wish to embed a video and I have the following code -

Code:

<embed src="http://lads.myspace.com/videos/myspacetv_vplayer0005.swf" flashvars="m=14220113&type=video"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="430" height="346">

Use the forums built-in flash tags by clicking this button or typing (without the *s) [*flash=430,346*]  [*/flash*].

Now, take the video src and place it between the flash tags, so you end up with this (again, without the *s).

[*flash=430,346*]http://lads.myspace.com/videos/myspacetv_vplayer0005.swf[*/flash*]

After the f of swf, put in a question mark ? and then add the flashvars after the ?

Therefore for the above code, the finished embedding code for this board will be (without the *s) -

[*flash=430,346*]http://lads.myspace.com/videos/myspacetv_vplayer0005.swf?m=14220113&type=video[*/flash*]

Giving this -->

<a href="http://lads.myspace.com/videos/myspacetv_vplayer0005.swf?m=14220113&amp;type=video" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://lads.myspace.com/videos/myspacetv_vplayer0005.swf?m=14220113&amp;type=video</a>

Here is what it looks like without the astericks (aka *s):

Code: [Select]
[flash=430,346]http://lads.myspace.com/videos/myspacetv_vplayer0005.swf?m=14220113&type=video[/flash]
