I can't listen to Slide. Actually like EVER. I've listened to it perhaps a grand total of five times. It just makes me too uncomfortable and I don't enjoy listening to it. I'm not sure why. Qualities of Amanda's voice, and because of the way the song makes me feel, even though I've never entirely worked out what the song is about. Enlighten me?

I really dislike The Jeep Song. The words themselves capture a certain thing, but musically I don't rate it.

Also Coin Operated Boy. Mainly because of being overplayed, and tends to be the first song someone mentions if they find out you like the Dresden Dolls. Why is that?? I hate that.

It took me a while to get into a couple of the other songs on the self titled, but I pretty much loved all the rest straight off, although would split them into two categories of ones that are slow to get in to, and ones that make their impact straight away.

For Yes, Virgnia. I get what people are saying about Sing, and I have to say I was the same to begin with, but there is something brilliant about the way it's completely different to what would be considered usual Dolls material, and it totally grew on me.

I don't have any I 'hate' on this album, weirdly - but I guess I also have fewer that I love. It's more middle ground.

Although if I skip any tracks it's My Alcoholic Friends, Shores of California, and very occasionally Necessary Evil.

The only Dolls song I can say I remotely dislike is First Orgasm.
Just the lyrics put me off a bit, and quite frankly its a little boring and repetitive.

Of course there are some songs I usually skip over (Missed Me, Slide, Me & the Minibar) but I still love them.

I could never "hate "any Amanda/Dolls songs.

I actually LOVE first orgasm - I think the bluntness of the lyrics and the slowness is what makes it, and totally grasps and portrays that emotion amazingly.

It's kind of raw.

One of my favourite lines as well 'I think I could last at least a week without someone to hold me.'

*sigh*

I'ma go listen to that now.

I love Slide because of what it's about, but I think I tend to skip over it for the same reason. It's about being raped, I think, or sexually abused in some way, most likely by someone who is much older. But the song can be an analogy to anything I guess... maybe just being abused, or feeling trapped in a bad situation.

Yeah. That's what I figured.

Not a song I'm ever going to listen to. I actually deleted it out of my iTunes library (it's still on my comp, but just not somewhere it's going to come on shuffle randomly...) to avoid listening to. The degree of uncomfort from listening to it just is way too much for me.

Wasn't slide about a local child mosester in Boston who cut his victims fingers off? In the original version of the song (amanda palmer only), the lyrics are "Who cut the fingers, cut the fingers from the  little girl" or something. Someone told me its in the Dolls Companian.

I LOVE Sing. Just the whole slowness of it building into an emotional outbreak. The whole message of people coming together for one purpose just grips me. I think the thing that draws me to it is that it's so unlike The Dresden Dolls 'style', yet it can captivate me like that.

Currently, as a music listener I'm not in a mood which is particularly pro-Dolls, so I shouldn't post here now maybe... but for the mix CD I did a while ago (basically from selftitled+"Yes"...) I excluded:
Missed me, The Perfect Fit, Jeep Song, My Alcoholic Friends, Delilah, First Orgasm, Mrs.O, Mandy..., Me & the Minibar, Sing. I don't particularly enjoy all of those.  :-\
Only song from "A is for accident" included is "Will"...

I'm kinda surprised that I still like their over-and-over-heard "signature-tune" Coin-operated Boy, but I do. I think it holds up okay.

Among the covers, I don't like maybe 60-70%.  :'(

But hey... having watched the "Girl A."- & "Backstabber"-videos this morning on YouTube, I saw there's - in spite of what I wrote above - still some magic for me to find in their music.

P.S.
I'd like to add that even for my favorite bands, things look quite similar. So when listening to those, I, from some point on, am also happy to ignore about 50% of what they did.

The companion has the original first draft of Slide, and as much as it killed me to admit it, the lyrics in the solo version on the brigade site aren't "Who chopped the fingers?" They're almost certainly "Who taught the fingers?" both in that mp3 and the original version. I don't know what that means, and as much as I prefer chopping fingers to teaching them, that's definitely what it is.

i know, but it was written with a grey magic marker and the writing is terrible so it's really hard to make out. but I read "chopped the fingers" but in the mp3 it most certainly is "taught the fingers" and when i hear 'taught' I usually think of the girl sticking her middle finger up at the orange man. someone taught her the finger. soooo yeah. and whenever i play this song i sing the original lyrics. and because of that, i actually forgot the original lyrics.

I know I'm probably going against the grain with this one, but I've never been able to get into Kaledrina. Even though, I know it's a lot of people's favourite, I still don't get it I'm afraid...  :'(

Having said that, it is just about the only one I tend to skip

Rock on  :headbang:

I actually think the song takes too long to build up, too .__.

I get really weird about Bad Habit. I don't dislike it, persay, but it makes me really antsy and strange. And The Perfect Fit is not a favorite: it doesn't make it into a lot of playlists.

I love Sing... it's one of my favorites.

I actually really like The Perfect Fit because it might describe what I'll be in a couple of years...I'm an A student, but I feel like that won't get me far enough.
