One winning ticket sold in Zephyr Hills, Florida. Hopefully, it was bought by my mom's younger brother, who lives there.

Dear Mr. Gaiman,
I know you care about a lot of meaningful issues, and you have a lot of money.
Would you mind telling me how you balance these two conditions so that the
second isn't erased by the first overnight?

Thanks for any advice.
Yours,
Cee

Seriously, I could give away a giant pile of money in no time at all, and I'd really
like to achieve some long-term good, rather than just band-aid some superficial
problems...

did you just invent the "quote" or was the question really posed to Mr. Gaiman? i would like to see that answer...

It's just a question that pops into ye old brain whenever the lotto gets up there.
I don't plan on ever actually being wealthy enough to write million-dollar checks,
but how would I restrain myself if I were? and how to avoid feeling like an asshat for
NOT donating however-much to whatever good cause, even though it's there in the
bank...
I mean, there are plenty of very-well-to-do philanthropists out there, and I'm
sure Warren Buffett and Bill Gates get this question all the time, but it seems
like Mr. AFP's philanthropic views are similar to my own.

i see. well, there is a lot of responsibility that comes with such a huge amount of money...

i once heard that most people who win our national lottery (which is often "only" one million €) are broke after a few years. when they win, they get advice on how to invest well, but then they apparently still spend it all because it feels endless...until it's gone.

it's comin' back around again - Mega Millions will be at least $550 million this Tuesday night.

The game's format was changed back in late October so the odds are significantly longer now. They've gone from 175 million to one to 259 million to one under the new system.

Of course, the odds of winning without purchasing a ticket remain at zero.

I'm getting a dollar ticket.  I figure if I'm lucky enough, I don't need to spend a ten spot on a ticket.

well, 2 winning tickets were sold for last night's drawing, so the pot's back down to $15 million now.

one was sold in San Jose. fingers crossed for Blue Canary!

I got one in my wallet right now. If I won just one million, that'd be cool.  I'd be out of debt and with a bit extra!
