I heard in some African tribes, people will their bodies to be left on the open field, so that wild animals and bugs may eat them and survive the shortages of food.

At first it seemed a little wrong. But now i see that, even while they're dying they're concerned about the animals and nature. And we still call them "primitive" or "uncivilised".

So instead of having my corpse imprisoned into a little box and covered six feet under, i'd like have it left into the wild nature. Because my tombstone or ashes will just be a useless thing after my children and grandchildren are passed away too. And now that my corpse will be invaded by bugs and bacterias, it's not necesary to keep it under the ground.

first choice after donation of anything they need or can take, i plan to be laid on a viking warship of my friends' making with all my earthly wealth, pushed out to sea in a lake somewhere, and have flaming arrows shot at the ship.

barring that, cremation.

I pretty much want the same as Johnny. But I think I'd rather let close family decide what to do in terms of burial or whatever, because it's not going to affect me, really, and I'd want them to do whatever they felt they needed to do to say goodbye. The organ donation thing isn't quite as negotiable however.

A close friend of mine wants to be cremated than have a few close friends snort part of her ashes.

For me anything is better than being embalmed and taking up space in a cemetery which I think is the most wasteful way to handle the dead. It really is a horrific waste of good land.

In a fantasy story I read a while ago some creatures (Skaven) where talking about how humans bury their dead and they did not understand why we waste food like that. As horrifying as that may be to some western cultures I think it is an undeniably rational way to look at it.

I'd either want to be donated to science, harvested for organs, eaten, or any combination there of. But as I said, anything is better than taking up space indefinitely.

On that topic, I never understood why "grave robbing" was seen as such a bad thing to do. The dead do not own anything. Not saying I would actually dig up graves but I sure as hell don't know why anyone would want to be buried with valuables that could benefit their loved ones.

My mother used to work in a cemetery where a famous old lord (William Larnach) was buried, in this really fancy old tomb. The tomb has sadly been vandalised to shit in various ways over the years, and there's a big cage around it now. Apparently Larnach's skull has been stolen and replaced three times. One of the thieves, who later became a historian, apparently had it in his possession for a number of years.

Some years ago, the son of the principal at our local rich-neighborhood public high school was arrested for stealing jewelry, gold fillings and the like from graves to get drug money.... [sign of the L on forehead]

me and the hubz want to be cremated, then our ashes will be mixed with that of our first puppies (who's ashes will be saved until this point) and then our kid(s) will throw them out over the ocean....at least that's MY plan...

and then we'll probably have this as our tombstone at one of our houses

Here, in Turkey, dead are always buried this way. No expensive clothing, no embalming, no luxury coffins, etc. They just wash the body with clean water, and wrap it inside a white shroud (which should be seamless), and bury in the ground. (Coffins here are just used to carry the dead to the graveyard)

Anyway, before getting buried this way, i'd like my organs to be donated, hence i always carry a 'volunteer organ donor' card in my purse.

I don't believe in the afterlife-reencarnation things. To me, once you are dead, your body is a useless and unimportant thing, so it belongs to the nature. Let the bacterias do their job

I'm not sure reincarnation things are contradictory to the body belonging to the nature...

really intriguing and would love to have such a burial if i should die travelling in east asia :-D but i'm not sure they do this with non-buddhist tourists :-D and it certainly wouldn't be fair to my family/friends.
