Movies you have recently seen
« on: September 18, 2011, 03:43:11 PM »

Yes, it is hard to believe that no one has started this thread before now.  There are threads about movies (bad movies you love, good movies no one loves, etc.) and one about television (what are you watching now) but nothing regarding recently-seen movies.  So ------

Crime d'Amour (Love Crime), starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier.

KST (Christine) is the head of a multinational agri-business corporation and Isabelle (Ludivine Sagnier from 2002's "Swimming Pool") is her brilliant protege.  Things go really bad when Isabelle discovers Christine's true nature (taking credit for her work, humiliating her employees, including Isabelle) and plots her revenge.  Not a great movie, but following Isabelle's attempt to pull off a perfect crime is fascinating.

Unthinkable, starring Carrie-Anne Moss and Samuel Jackson

Kinda like a 90-minute episode of 24, but very well done for all that.

3 stars out of a possible 5

midnight in paris - SEE IT. seriously, it's goooood.

Saw it last week at the local bijou.  We were all like drooling over Marion Cottillard and boohissing Rachel McAdams.  But quietly, of course.  Another good one of Woody Allen's late-career surge.

Okay, I try not to obsess, or to over-impressed by a nice display of breasts.

That said, has anyone seen "Your Highness"?
...the scene with Marteetee, or more to the point, Marteetee's um, entourage?  ( :o:D ) x 1024

Day-Am! Fully worth the price of admission right there (and the rest of the film is pretty good too).

I just watched Mary and Max. It's about a friendship between a young Australian girl and an autistic man living in New York. It's sad, sweet and funny all at the same time. It's also animated!

Well, this thread certainly turned out to be a big hit.

"Melancholia".  Lars Von Trier, dir.  The movie that was shown at Cannes when he got canned (!) from the festival for life for saying stupid shit about Hitler.

Great performances by Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg, and the planet, Melancholia, that threatens to collide with Earth (no subtitles were used for its scenes).

i watched tomboy, a french film shown at cannes too, and it was lovely and so delicately poetic.

i've also watched beginners, really good, though a bit stereotypically ''indie'', if you know what i mean.

and i don't know how she does it, no, just boring, i love sjp but this is nothing special

The Horde - French zombie movie; much better than expected.

some Korean movie about a giant tsunami.

Colossus: the Forbin Project - early-'70s sci-fi classic

Just finished watching Sucker Punch.

I think the screenplay was a little meh, but visual effects and soundtrack were worth watching it.

Yesterday I saw "be kind rewind", it was funny, but a little surrealist...

Mutants, another French horror film. Not as kickass as the Horde, but still pretty good. :)
