once upon a time, I thought the EU would put all nationalism aside and eventually become one nation.
I still think they should.
I think it might be crazy hard. It's been very hard to change their currencies for most of these countries. I have a friend working in Germany, and i remember her saying "Things changed a lot. Everything has become much more expensive then it used to be. For example, price for one tomato used to be one Mark, but now it's one Euro. But it's not the same for the salaries. Because Euro is more valuable than Mark, no employer is able to pay the same amount of money in Euro currency."
And all of these countries have different cultures, sources, working habits. Standardisation would be pain in the ass.
I mean, you can't make a Greek person work 10 hours per day. And industrial production can never be as successful as for example it is in Germany. Because industrial and mass production is something new for them. They are more accustomed to tourism and import & export. This is why incentive credits haven't work.
It became harder to finance them inside the union. And if union keeps supporting such countries with credits and grants, it will ruin the economic situations of the other member countries whose economy is bigger.
