the latest e-mail's got me geeked.

 :D
Strange, I subscribed to the newsletter but didn't receive any e-mail recently…

Drop me an email, please? I'd like to figure out why! sean@amandapalmer.net

Same.  I resubscribed, but it did seem like I had been bumped off the mailing list... I get the blogs which might have been a different signup, but I remember definitely signing up specifically for the mailing list in advance of some tour.

may only be a small sample of Trout. but bloody hell, sounds incredible with the strings
That sounds amazing!
I like that you could hear the breaks in here voice.
That's what I didn't like about WKAP, it was just to perfect.

Too perfect? You must have somehow missed “Leeds United”, where it sounded like some months before the recording a murderer had wildly attacked Amanda's throat with a cheese grater carved out of frozen gin and she was making a painful recovery. I was not surprised to know she'd had nodules in her vocal chords (the song is still great, if not greater because of it).

I agree that imperfect, raw, human voices are amazing, especially in this age where singers are either AutoTuned out of both authory and tune, or have to gospel-yell 90% of the time just because they want to convince us they've got a better set of pipes than Christina Aguilera.

Hey Amanda, how about a song with a harp?  Just a thought.

I would disagree, I thought her voice was quite rough in parts of that record. Wasn't her voice fucked because she had throat surgery or something? Not that it doesn't sound great, the roughness works well on the songs that you can hear it in.

*EDIT*
RE: the thing about bonus tracks: If you listen to the end of the first two Scissor Sisters albums, they got the bonus tracks really fucking right. On the first one, they had some silence, then a weird little spoken introduction to the two bonus tracks, that really suited the feel of the record. On the second, it was just 2 minutes of silence, ending in some elevator sounds and stuff (that carried on the theme of the cover), before the bonus track.

[Slightly off topic: Do people still put negative time on CD's? There's this weird thing you can do where instead of the song starting at 00:00, it's starts at say -00:40 and counts down before then counting upways like normal. For some reason, sound files on a computer don't actually pick it up.]

Anyway, you're just walking around with these teeth in your vagina and you think it's normal cos like, who do you ask about that shit? Then, one day you go to have sex with someone & they're all "WHY DOES YOUR VAGINA HAVE A TOOTH IN IT?" That'd be damn awkward.

i completely agree-- i thought wkap was the most "imperfect" album, vocally, and while before it i would have expected myself to WANT that imperfection, i found that i actually didn't totally love it. it might just be the contrast between that and the extreme production of the album, though. i think amanda's voice was at its best on Yes, Virginia. i know i've heard her say that they did like tons of takes or something to get each song perfect. (and a side-note; the surgery was actually after WKAP was recorded afaik, and THAT'S why her voice wasn't at its best. no virginia was recorded even closer to the surgery, and the live bonus track version of glass slipper on that album is almost painful to listen to for me because of the shape her voice was in. anyone else feel that way?)

that would be awesome! sean/hayley/amanda-if-you're-reading/anyone, did Baby Dee playing harp for Ampersand ever actually happen? or was it just an idea that never came to be?

^I love what she's going to be doing. It make me so much more willing to spend my money.

dude, I was arguing for a synth-heavy album from Amanda back when I first joined here in late 2005. It's where I felt the Dolls should've gone after Yes, Virginia...right down to expanding the lineup. If it takes a new band for her to do it, so be it.

I can't fucking wait for this, and I hope it's not just a one-and-done deal.

The demos sound incredible. It's most certainly going to be amazing. I hope that a lot more awesomeness comes out of this, myself…best way to make sure that it does? Support it, share it, love it, and DANCE!  ^-^

I'm sure it still happens. And truth be told, that's how the interludes on WKAP came about. I made the suggestion, Amanda dug it, and had a bunch of old recordings she wanted inter-spliced with the songs…we never did get to do the track 0 I thought would be cool, but the future's a big wide open canvas!

Lots of things actually happen no one ever knows about (me included, sometimes). If cool stuff like that would ever see the light of day, this next year or so is the time to start crossing your fingers and paying close attention…  ^-^

Perhaps after this album they will all merge and record/tour as THE GRAND DRESDEN DOLLS THEFT ORCHESTRA.

And this planet will explode or something.

Or they could just open for themselves....  Wouldn't be the first band to do that, but it could work.

i'm thinking it probably won't... amanda most likely played trout heart replica and bed song during the evening with shows (did she?), which both aren't on the live album. it was probably intentional so that the songs she wasn't going to record would still get to be released.
