the person claiming comments were deleted took that back two pages earlier. so unless you're all talking about something else, you can calm down ;-)

I just checked back after Sean @replied to my tweet, and they are apparently back. I guess facebook was just fucking up. So ignore my other post!

Still wish the photoshop job was better though.

whew, glad it's all good. For future though, if any of y'all have any questions, issues, problems etc. with comments on the 'box, Facebook, social networks etc. feel free to reach out to me.
Thanks Hayley :)

@Album art: I guess a lot of it is just getting used to it in comparison to all of the other promo shots and artwork we've seen so far. The album as a whole still seems set to look pretty.

I'm thinking of it not as a single piece for the cover. But I'm waiting to see what it looks like as a whole. With the packaging, and the linear notes etc. The rest of the packaging might be more subdued which will in turn subdue the pink. Who knows. We shall have to wait and see.

i wonder if it had been a painting, would you guys have complained it was "badly painted"?
(that sounds bitchy, but it's totally not, i'm just really curious if you think that photography has, like, more set rules than other graphic arts,
and they should be respected...)

I don't think you can really compare the two... and my problems aren't with the photography either. But the technical aspect of this cover (the photoshopping) is just very badly done. It has nothing to do with rules or artistic vision, because I would probably like this cover if it had been well executed. I think it looks a bit similar to the album cover for St Vincent's Actor album: a simple portrait against a coloured background. But the St Vincent album looks gorgeous, and that is because it's well executed. I like the idea behind this cover, and a good quality version would have probably looked fantastic as well, but this just looks like a low quality product. I think the lo-fi aesthetic can be used in really great ways, but there's a difference between artwork with a "low quality" look as a deliberate artistic decision, and something that is the result of technical skills that just aren't good enough for the job.

This may sound strange, but I find there's something similar in the atmosphere of Want It Back and the DD cover of Pretty In Pink... The whole light 80's poppy feel. My boyfriend really disagrees... Any support for me?

Except this is the first case, not the second.

Do you know that for sure, though? How? It looks like the second kind to me, too.

Also, the St Vincent cover is actually a pretty good comparison:

Neither of these covers are really the sort of thing I personally like but the St Vincent one still looks well done, as opposed to the ambiguously edited Palmer one. As I said before, the bad bits seem to subtle, and that they're all clustered around the same side doesn't help. I'm waiting for Desi or Amanda to come along and be like "we made it that way so people would talk about it! Publicity!" or offer some kind of actual insight into why, if it was deliberate, but I guess time will tell.

I'm pretty sure it's not. The Radiohead had the same kind of problems, and for that cover, they were going for a completely different kind of look.

Actually the first thing I thought of when I heard Want It Back was "this sounds like it should be on the soundtrack of a John Hughes movie". I think they were pretty much aiming for the same thing with Want It Back and Pretty In Pink.

some people hate the cover. that makes me really happy.
I was hoping she'd have more to say than that.

Also, I quite like the back cover, and feel less bad about the pink when it's paired up with the black. [/my two cents]

So, I did a compilation of AFP+GTO videos I've been able to find on YouTube:

The Killing Type.
I cannot wait to see the video.

Lost.
The synth line in this one is KILLER KILLER. You all recognize it from the Kickstarter, right? I love it so fucking much. ♥ ♥ ♥

Berlin.
It's so very much like those very long, multisection DD songs (think Truce). ♥

Olly Olly Oxen Free.
Sounds like SUCH a good album ender. <3

The Bed Song WITH STRINGS OH MY GOD OH MY

Trout Heart Replica.
The Killing Type, acoustic.
The Killing Type, piano version.
Trout Heart Replica, played on GUITAR (!), with the string section and everything. As the description says, she's cutting a beet with a kitchen knife and something about the sound and the image is just... makes my heart stop.
The end of an acoustic version of Lost and a cover of Take a Walk on the Wild Side.

If you look in the uploaders' accounts, you can find videos of AFP and the band playing songs we already knew: here, for instance, is Half Jack.

Here's a version of "Berlin" that she recorded at a radio station in Berlin:

Also, I'm glad she confirmed "The Living Room" as a b-side in the last Kickstarter-update O0

Sorry if it's already been asked and answered somewhere, (this is quite a long thread) but will the Kickstarter digital download be available in lossless format(s) like all of Amanda's stuff on Bandcamp?  I would assume yes, but the single came as mp3 only, so just checking...

^ But there has been no single yet. Do It with a Rockstar, Trout Heart Replica and Want It Back have been released to create buzz and get more people on the Kickstarter, or to reward backers, but nothing more. In case you haven't noticed, none of those were even up for sale, they were just downloadable.

At some point, as the CD's release date approaches, four singles will be released, and it seems that those will be the four 7" vinyls for the backers who chose the 7" vinyls option. We know that videos have been shot or are going to be shot for Want It Back, The Killing Type, The Bed Song and Do It With a Rockstar, so it' make sense that those four songs will be the singles from the album.

And yes, I'm pretty sure that the singles and the album will be sent to backers and released to the public via Bandcamp,  downloadable in all formats. It makes the most sense and it's what she's done until now.

i'm gonna keep updating this post everytime we learn of a new song that we will get.

so this is the list of the fifteen songs being released offically on the record:

1. Meow Meow Introduces The Grand Theft Orchestra
2. Smile (Pictures or It Didn’t Happen)
3. The Killing Type
4. Do It With A Rockstar
5. Want It Back
6. Grown Man Cry
7. Trout Heart Replica
8. A Grand Theft Intermission
9. Lost
10. Bottomfeeder
11. Bed Song
12 Massachusetts Avenue
13. Melody Dean
14. Berlin
15. Olly Olly Oxen Free

and the only confirmed b-side/bonus track/outtake (so far) is The Living Room. so that is 16 songs we know of so far (i count the intermission, since it is still a song--just an instrumental).

this leaves these songs as possibilities as the other b-sides/bonus tracks/outtakes:
- St. Kilda (though, it could've been renamed into a song we already know is being released?)
- Dublin (we haven't gotten a straight answer as to whether this is a song or not...?)
- The Wedding Song (what is this even?)
- Arson (or whatever it said on that sheet...again, could've been renamed)
- Warrior Within (where was this name confirmed?)
- Don't Call Me Fucking Gaiman (it's possible, right? :) )
- Provanity

but of course, i won't be surprised if a couple of the six songs above aren't b sides and some are osngs we hadn't suspected. but this is the most up-to-date list of all the songs we knowof :D
