Yes, but you can also release previews AFTER it's released.
That way people get the chance to try before they buy, and it's not ruined for everyone else.
you get all of the advantages, and almost none of the disadvantages.

One of the reasons for early previews is to build excitement. Labels are obsessed with numbers. Albums that sell well for the first couple of weeks tend to do get more support compared to albums that sell consistently but don't really get noticed. How do you get that initial splash? How do you get a few impulse purchases? Previews. Pre-release singles. In other words, they build excitement for when the album is released. I'm not saying the beancounters in the front office are always right but there's a reason why they've been offering up things like pre-release singles for over 40 years.
