“The Real Cabaret”
Missed the first 10 minutes last-night/this-morning. Will watch what I missed now.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00nf012

Probably a familiar bit of history for most DD/AFP fans, but was still an enjoyable documentary to watch.

Unfortunately I think the BBC player is restricted to the UK. Unless you do some sort of web proxy thing, my link will probably not be of much use to many of you.

I just watched this on the iPlayer too. Good stuff. Alan Cumming in Berlin..  :love5:

Not a single mention of Anita Berber in the whole programme. Odd.

Also, I thought it was a shame that Alan came away thinking that the "spirit of weimar cabaret" had left Berlin after visiting one shitty nightclub. I think he'dve changed his mind if he'd looked around a bit more and checked out the art scenes. That nightclub manager guy he talked to (the blonde guy whose grandfather was a high ranking nazi) seemed like a bit of a dick.. saying that the Berlin scene now was just about fun and there was no politics involved, no need for satire and all that. I think he was attempting to distance the current scene from what came before, but in doing so he made it sound very boring, unimportant and empty. I can see why Alan was less than impressed.

“The Real Cabaret” is on Youtube now. First segment is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbXKJ702aFY

It would be surprising if he couldn't find anything. I wonder how close it would have to be to the "real deal" before he could say that he had found somewhere that captured the spirit.

SD?  I can appreciate that you may have missed it, but Captain Hammer is what we call a "dick".
How someone with his ego and lack of sensitivity failed to become a super-villain completely escapes me.

The good Dr. H is, of course, simply misunderstood.
