Body Hair
« on: May 13, 2008, 08:31:43 PM »

This post is mostly for the ladies, but the fellas or transgender's peeps can chime it too!

So, yeah...

Body hair.

We all know lovely Ms. Palmer is all about it (except for on her face).

What about you?
Is Frida Kahlo your role model?
Why do you choose to shave/not shave?
Do you think it's sexy, gross, whatever?
Do you wax, lazer, thread, pluck?  Nair?

Got a complaint about that happy trail or that moustache you cant get rid of?

Funny/sad/embarassing stories?

And finally, is the full 70s porn bush making a comeback after these last two decades of those fashionable bare cooters?

Legs, armpits, nipples, toes, bellies, chins, lips, assholes and vaginaaaas!  Oh my!

Eh, the human body is covered in a layer of smaller, finer, less visible hairs anyway, from what I've observed. If shaving is a must, why not the hair on the top of the head too?

What about you?
I have all my hair, except the stuff on top my head. That gets cut short.

Is Frida Kahlo your role model?
Maybe. I like her compositions...

Why do you choose to shave/not shave?
It itches like hell when I shave the more sensitive parts. Plus my parentals would freak if they find hair strewn all over the sink. Feminism reinforces my unwillingness to itch :<

Do you think it's sexy, gross, whatever?
I tend to comb through my scalp hair obsessively during class, but keep the rest covered (I have nasty rash scars all over my arms in addition). I think I have head lice (arrrrgh, I need to cut it all off during the summer, then). Pube hair is nice...reminds me of a certain fanfiction I read involving General Grievous and a lovely admiral  :tongue7:

Do you wax, lazer, thread, pluck?  Nair?
Nope. My knuckle hair is also intact. I like to pretend I'm a whitey gorilla.

There's a scary picture of myself after I shaved off my eyebrows circa 2006, attempting to impersonate something I read in Death Note. I do look butch in that photo, compared to my meek relatives.

All hair intact and accounted for.

Is Frida Kahlo your role model?
I only wish I could have eyebrows such as hers. Mine are so blonde as to be practically invisible. I don't pluck them because there is no point - you can't see them anyway.

Why do you choose to shave/not shave?
The hair seems to like it there. Who am I to tell it it is wrong?

Do you think it's sexy, gross, whatever?
The only time I find body hair unattractive is excessive ear/nasal hair on old men. That being said I probably would find all body hair on these men as well as the men themselves unattractive so maybe that doesn't really count. Otherwise it is just supposed to be there so who cares!

Do you wax, lazer, thread, pluck?  Nair?
Nup.

I'm chiming in as a male.

As with above the neck practices of days gone by, we tend to strip what we are accustomed to seeing down to the skin. We like to see. In this day of increased visibility of more of the body, more hair reduction stands to reason. The trends are further influenced by expectations of anatomical disparity (men have more hair than women, so it also stands to reason that we might amplify that for aesthetic purposes in attemting to attract the opposite sex). What is reasonable plays a role. Women are likely to be able to eliminate body hair with relative ease, compared to a man.

As for myself, aside from neck and cheek shaving, I constantly maintain the length of my chest hair. I trim most of the hair from under my arms. I drastically reduce the length of my pubic hair by trimming and shaving. I do not allow hair to grow on my balls at all. I also keep it from growing up the base at all. I tend to these shaving practices daily. The trimming of other body hair is tended to as needed. I probably do some on any given day (or two). Some shoulder hair has appeared over the last few years. I pluck it. I do not let hair grow in my nostrils. That practice began before any noticeable hair showed up, so I have no idea how I would look if I let it grow.

All that, and i do not look the least bit metrosexual, dressed or naked.

I appreciate shaving of body hair on women... or at least trimming, depending on the woman in question and the nature of her body hair.

Body hair for me = gross. On me, on someone else, i just don't like to deal with it.

Speaking as a lesbian, one of the main reasons I don't care for men is the body hair issue (besides, you know, the whole penis thing). I have issues with chest hair, back hair, etc. And for girls, I don't really care very much about body hair as far as aesthetics go, but below the waist, it's usually easier if they are at the very least extremely well trimmed, if not mostly shaved. It just makes certain...erm, activities, shall we say? easier.

Which is the main reason why I shave below the waist; I don't really care to if I don't have to worry about anyone else - it's itchy and fairly sensitive. However, I do want to be considerate for the girlfriend, so...off it comes, and the itch I can just tolerate. I do usually wait four or five days in between shaves, though, just so it doesn't become too unbearable.

Your reasons for wanting a female partner to be shaved, or at least trimmed, are parallel to mine. I have a little more attachment to the idea of trimming and shaving in the way of aesthetics though. Every way to say this seems boorish, but I love the feel and look of pussy. I want to see it... not a mass of hair. Sexuality has brought us to a palce in which we (male, female, straight or gay) expect our partners' faces to be down there. It's not some mechanism of male domination that dictates hair reduction. For fuck's sake (heh), I do what I can, reasonably, to reduce my own, as a male... as a blonde male! the only thing keeping me from doing more is that i would have to match everything on my body to the reduction of body hair below the waist.

Yeah, penises could be a big factor in that.

Lesse. I shave mah pits every day and my legs when necisarry, usually the day before i know i'm wearing shorts or tights. I have no need to mow the lawn, not like any one's gonna be walkin' on it anyways. Now if I get an active partner at some point, it's really up to him, I couldnt care either way. Now ON men, I prefer shag carpet. Happy trails are also INCREDIBLY sexy. I'm pretty O' Naturale.

personally, i shave for the sheer fact that i think the hair is uncomfortable... especially armpit hair.

i'm not a compulsive shaver, though. i shave my armpits regularly but everything below is when i start to get irritated... usually it's a once a week thing unless i'm in a shorts mood.

I prefer to shave everywhere that I feel there is excessive hair, usually every couple of days.
I'm not too picky about hair on other people though, as long as it is tidy.
